for you to help support preschool enrollment. November –February is the official count day
for us. We will be filling ALL exits from the classroom through April 1, 2017. There are
still classrooms in Greenville, and Vestaburg at this time. Please spread the word if you
know someone that is still looking for preschool for their 4 year old. Preschool
Applications for 2019-20 school year: Process and application undergo an annual review.

Great Start Reporting: GSRP Implementation plan has been submitted for 2018-19. FER
for last year is in process due in February. 32P work plan and budget for 18-19 is approved
officially. February is GSRP “count” day so be sure to include all students who have been in
your classrooms. 32p Mid year progress report is due in March.
New GSRP Formula in 2017-18 school year: MDE has rolled out a new GSRP funding
formula that will help to bring all ISDs GSRP saturation rate up to 65%. These numbers have
been incorrect and at this point we are unsure of how this will end up. We did accept an offer
to take 2 more additional slots. We do not have a plan for 4 total slots and may be sending
them back in the spring.
New GSRP Implementation Plan and Guidance are on line on MDEs website:
http://www.michigan.gov/mde/0,4615,7-140-63533_50451-217313--,00.html
Math Task Force: Math Essentials Pre K – 12th grade documents will be released before the
end of the school year.

free for any parent and child under 4. Please help us get the word out. Several of them
have space for new families! Essentials in Literacy Matter: Every child, Every day in Every classroom: Let me know if
you are interested in further information on this initiative. We have recently sent two people
to become trainer for the Pre K essentials. Have computer will travel. Parents welcome!
We have also scheduled trainings to support the Essentials work. See MAISD website for
details! We will also be completing a needs assessment for districts involved in CORE

B. Executive & Communication: Janel Boulis
Did not meet in January, but are currently looking for billboard partners, to put
up billboards around preschool.
C. Early Care & Education: Mindy Train
Created a flyer that shows all the playgroups in the county, including the
library story hours
Hosted an event in January at the Flat River Library, for a Snowy Day
Stories Event, the weather was not very pleasant, only had one family
attend. Next year, we will be hosting this event later in the month.
Gearing up for summer library partnerships and the early childhood
conference
D. Family Wellness: Karen Marsman
February was National Children’s Dental Health month and the Wellness
Committee partnered with Alpha Family Services to provide a Dental
Health Fair at the Flat River Community Library. This event was held on
February 27th and was free to the community. There were activities,
stories, pictures with the Tooth Fairy, give- aways and more. It was
enjoyed by everyone, even though there was a small turn- out (35). A
different night of the week may be better, and less snowy roads would
help!
The Wellness Committee is also working on the Community Baby Shower
happening on April 27th. We will once again be hosting it at the Family
Fun Day event with We Care for Kids. We hope to have a bigger turnout
and reach more people. This year will be a bigger event as we have more
to work with.
April is Abuse Prevention Month and we have pinwheels to put out. A few
people are working on arrangements that will showcase the pinwheels.
We still have plenty of books to give away. Anyone is welcome to take a
box or two and share them with their agencies or local businesses where
they would be distributed.
Our Connections program enrollments are up, and we are waiting on the
February report for the final number. We are still looking for ways to get
the information out there. We will be planning another event with WIC at
Alpha for March.

Why do we serve Family Style
Meals and Snacks?
Part of a high quality research based program!
Provide opportunities for children and adults to interact with each other in meaningful ways.
Children love to serve themselves with a little guidance and encouragement.
Children’s eating behaviors, food preferences, and willingness to try new foods are influenced by the people around them.
How do we support all children
and families?
Time and Space—We
understand not all children are
ready to sit for a full story or circle
time. We can provide ideas and
support if you want.
Listening—We are a great
listening ear! We love hearing the
successes and are supportive when
there are challenges.
Connecting—We encourage
families to connect, socialize and
share with each other!
Communicating—We offer alternate ways for a
little one to communicate, whether it is basic
sign language, visuals or gestures.
Gross Motor—We provide challenging (and less
challenging) ways to practice and strengthen
large motor movements.
Fine motor—We provide specific guidance and
ways for little ones to strengthen small move-
ments—from scooping to pre-writing to cutting
skills.
