Information There is an expectation that all our children will continue with their learning at home

and teachers will keep in contact with families to offer support.

Details will be uploaded onto the Academy website by 5pm for following day’s learning:

https://www.harrisprimarymerton.org.uk/

Teachers will contact pupils on a weekly basis to ensure they are keeping up with their learning at home and to answer any questions about the work they may have.

Challenge 1 - RWI

This is my tricky word of the day! Remember you can’t Fred talk this word. Can you read it and say it in a sentence?

➢ You might want to try recapping your sounds! What sounds do you recognise? If your RWI teacher is Miss Forrest, Mrs Gale or Mr Reid, try recapping the set 2 sounds too.

➢ Practice saying and writing the circled sounds (remember the girl’s head needs to sit on the line!)

➢ I know a word that includes both of these sounds… do you? green! What animals do you know that are green? Look on this slide! Have you guessed what animal we might be exploring yet?

➢ Go on a hunt around your house – how many green objects can you find? You might want to write them down using your Fred Fingers.

E.g. You are right! This week we are looking at

frogs.

Challenge 2 - Reading Last week we learnt about how caterpillars change –can you remember what book we focused on? This week we shall investigate how frogs change! Before

you listen to the story, do you know anything already about the life cycle of a frog? Share your ideas with your grown-up. Then listen to the story ‘Oscar and

the frog!’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXCie36i7Bk

Listen carefully to the beginning of the story as the frog talks to you about how

he changed and grew. What do you remember? Also, can you remember

what season the story is set in – ‘one… day’.

Challenge 3 - Writing

Did you enjoy the story of Oscar and the frog? I think the frog was my favourite character! Who was your favourtie character?

Using these characters, let’s play a rhyming game! Do you remember what rhyme means? Let’s start with the frog…we can

use our sounds to write f-r-o-g, what other words sound like frog… l-o-g, j-o-g… can you think of anymore words that rhyme with frog? Write them down using your Fred fingers. You might want to have a go at choosing a different character and writing

some rhyming words for them!

Rhyming words have the same sound at the end - like frog, log

and jog.

What words rhyme with cat?

What words rhyme with fish?

I’m a bit different to Alex the snail as I am a water snail! What words rhyme

with snail?

Challenge 4 - MathsMusical statues

them on separate pieces of paper. Spread them out over the floor. When the music stops, you must run to a

number and shout it out. You must freeze until the music starts again.

** Say 1 more and 1 less than that number.*** Think of different ways to make that number (e.g. if

it was 5, you could say 2+3 or 7-2).

Corners

Pick 4 numbers that you find hard to recognise and write

them down on separate pieces of paper. Put them in the four corners of the room. Get your grown-up to call a number, can you run to the correct corner? Swap and have a go at calling the numbers for your grown-up to

run to.** Run to the number 1 less than…

*** Run to the number that is double…

Number passwords

Pick 5 numbers that you find hard to recognise and write them on separate pieces of paper. Attach them to

different doors and cupboards in your house. Before you go through the door or open that cupboard, you must

say the number password!** You must say the number 1 more and 1 less than that

number.*** You must double that number.

Number targets

Pick 5 numbers that you find hard to recognise and write them on separate pieces of paper. Spread them out over

the floor. Get your grown-up to call a number, using a soft ball, teddy or sock can you aim it at the correct

number target? ** Aim it at the number 1 less than…

*** Aim it at the number that is double…

Before we warm up - if you created a height chart a couple of weeks ago, don’t forget to

check whether anything has changed!

Now, let’s warm up by singing the count and move song on YouTube.

Challenge 5 – Bonus!

I love doing a bit of yoga –especially on a Monday! Join me on an adventure to meet Frank

the Frog in Costa Rica!

If you don’t fancy doing some frog yoga, why not use your green objects from phonics to play a

memory game! Place 5 of your green objects on the floor and close your eyes. Get your grown-up to take one away. Open your eyes – do you

know which object is missing? If that’s too easy, use more green objects!
