SA FAN: MAKING ITS MARKWITH THE SERVO-MECHATRONI(SMK PRESSBRAKE

The SMK is 0 fost, occurate, unique, non-

    hydraulic pressbrake. By applying mechanics

    ond electronics a unique, patented,

mechotronic drive wos developed. This drive

principle is based on the pulley principle

resulting in a very even distribution of forces in

the top beam, a high accuracy, an_d increosed

    productivity with decreased energy

consumption. The SMK makes use of a

different frame concept making it possible to

utilize the backgauge system across its entire

working length. The High Speed (HS) version

of the SMK is the fastest pressbrake

    in the world.

    The 4 basic SMK models:

    250 kN - 1250 mm

    400 kN - 1600 mm

    500 kN - 2050 mm

    800 kN - 2550 mm

  • SAFAN: MAKING ITS MARK WITHCONTROL AND PROGRAMMING FEATURES

    8

As 0 reaction to controls becoming technologically obsolete rapidly, Safan decided os early os 1995

to opt for their own PC based control os standard. The PC control (running under Microsoft Windows (Ill)

does not hove 0 keyboard but a Touch Screen. This improves the operation and the control is direct

and prompt. The network connection (standard accessory) (lOO MB Ethernet UTP)

    gives unlimited possibilities.

The instructions from the Touch Screen are sent to a central processor unit, which in turn activates

the various axes by means of 0 CAN-BUS (Control Area Network). An advantage of the CAN-BUS

system is that the electronics are based on 0 modular construction (flexible) and that it requires fewer

components. This results in 0 high degree of compatibility and reliability.

The control is a standard accessory: IS I.The control contains a database for the most common 30 upper and lower tools; product and material bend

characteristic data is also stored in the database. This yields 0 sharp reduction of programming time.

The Touch Screen control is mounted on the right hand side of the machine by means of 0 swivelling arm

(standard feature), thus creating an extensive range of operation for the operator.
