Objectives: By the end of the lesson the learner will be better able to understand what slang is and identify some samples of such. They will also have had an opportunity to make use of slang words in context. Materials & aids: Projector, laptop, videos, whiteboard & markers (if needed), and photocopies of handouts. Assumed Knowledge: They are aware of the existence of the different registers in the English language (formal, standard, colloquial, and vulgar) and can use vocabulary according to the social context and the audience background. Anticipated problem(s): 1. They might not know what slang is. 2. Some of the slang words introduced in the videos can be difficult to understand. Proposed solution(s): 1. Elicit the topic..Good afternoon, guys!Let me ask you something, have you ever heard, during your experience as English students, any words that are used by a certain group of people according to age, gender, nationality, or even urban background? (Yes/No).OK, thank you. Lets watch the following video. (Play video 1)Did you know any of these? If so, which ones? (Ss might give examples of the ones they knew or simply say no.)What were these kind of words they were challenging each other at? (Slang words). So, this is gonna be todays topic.T-Ss4

Setting up and running the activitiesFor Ss to identify and acquire new slang vocabulary items and their definition. Give H.O.s..TASK 1 Point out Ss to activity.Now, for the first task, you will see a video containing slang words and phrases. It is very important for you to make notes of the different words addressed and their definition. You just need to write down the main ideas. Ask a S to read out and then check instructions.. TASK 2 Give H.O.s.. Point out Ss to activity. Tell Ss they are to work in pairs..In this activity you will match the previous words/phrases that you heard from the video to its corresponding definition.Ask a S to read out and then check instructions.. Set time limit (2 mins. tops) Ss carry out the task. Monitor: walk around in search of any Ss that could need help.. F.B.: Ask Ss for the answers of each definition and write them on the board.T-Ss

Closing the activityFor Ss to realize what they have learned and put recent acquired knowledge in practice.TASK 3. Point out Ss to the activity... Arrange Ss in groups of three.. Ask a S to read out and check instructions..You will be working in groups of three. Do not forget to choose at least 6 words from the ones above and write a short paragraph in which you use them appropriately. Try to contextualize as much as possible. Check understanding....How many paragraphs are you going to write? (Just one).Do you need to use all the words? (No, at least 6). Ss carry out the task.
