Jyothy Labs readies war chest foracquisitions
Mumbai-based consumer goods firmJyothy Laboratories has announcedits intentions to acquire severalproducers or brands of fabric careand personal care products by FY2014-2015 to aid its further growth.The company has raised Rup 2630 M(€31 M) via preferential allotment ofshares to realize the plan. This,together with internal accruals ofabout Rup 2500 M, is expected to bedeployed in regional acquisitions, thecompany says. Jyothy Laboratoriesrecently acquired Henkel India [Focuson Surfactants, Apr 2013]. Its productlines include detergents, soaps, fabricwhiteners, deodorants and householdinsecticides.

Palsgaard opens Malaysian facility
In Aug 2013, Denmark-basedPalsgaard initiated operations at itsnew 20,000 tonnes/y factory inNusajaya, Johor, Malaysia. Thefacility cost around $36 M to constructand produces single emulsifiers andvarious blends of emulsifiers andstabilizers for food applications. Thesite was chosen for its proximity toraw materials, including palm oil, andthe company’s innovation centre inSingapore. The company receivedRSPO certification for the productionof mass balance certified palm oilproducts in 2012 [Focus onSurfactants, Nov 2012] and aims toraise the share of certified palm oiland derivatives in its palm oil-basedemulsifiers to 100% by 2015.

Evonik introduces universal wettingand anti-cratering additive forcoatings and inks
Germany’s Evonik has introduced anew universal-substrate wettingadditive for waterborne woodcoatings, industrial coatings and
printing inks, which can also be usedin solventborne and even UVcoatings, it says. An organicallymodified siloxane gemini surfactant,Tego Twin 4200 is said to exhibit‘outstanding wetting and anti-cratering properties’, coupled with nofoam stabilization. It provides a robustand easier processing during paintmanufacturing, according to Evonik.Enhanced reduction of surfacetension and high compatibility lead toa high-performance product, ideal forvarious coating systems, while TegoTwin 4200’s 100% active mattercontent allows for its use in modernzero VOC formulations, the companyreports.

Theformulation contains allyl caproateand ambroxan or geranium oil. Themethod is focused on a hair cleansingcomposition that contains anamphoteric surfactant, a cationicpolymer, and an N-actyl-N-methyltaurine-based anionicsurfactant.
