Meditations for the Lord’s Supper

When we partake of the Lord’s Supper, we are following

the example of the early church (Acts 2:42; 20:7).

When we partake of the Supper we demonstrate where our

minds are (Col 3:2).

We honor the name of Christ (i.e., his authority) when we

partake of the Lord’s Supper (Acts 4:11-13; 1 Pt 4:16).

Page 19: Meditations For The Lords Supper

Meditations for the Lord’s Supper

We are functioning as a live, contributing member of the

body of Christ when we partake of the Supper (Eph 4:16; 1

Cor 12:13-27).

We are fortifying our faith against the wiles and attacks of

Satan (1 Pt 5:8; Js 4:7).

When we partake of the Supper we show we aren’t

ashamed of Jesus & the Gospel (Mk 8;38; Rm 1:14-16).

Partaking of the King’s Supper is an expression of

spirituality and a desire to be free from a carnal mind (Rm

8:5-10).

Partaking of the Supper helps me refocus my mind, at least

once a week, on the Gospel which must be kept in memory

(1 Cor 15:1-6).

We affirm we are properly motivated when we take our

seat at the King’s Table to have Supper with the saints in

the local congregation (2 Cor 5:14; Jn 14:15).

Supper with the King (1 Cor 10:16).

When we partake of the Supper we bless (give thanks) the

cup (1 Cor 10:16).

When we partake of the Supper we gather “around the

Table” with our partners in the church (1 Cor 11:20; Rm

14:1-12).

We bring glory, honor, and pleasure to God when we have

Supper with his Son & our Savior (Eph 3:21).

Page 23: Meditations For The Lords Supper

Meditations for the Lord’s Supper

Partaking of the Supper should give us new courage &

inspiration for “fighting the good fight of faith” (1 Tm 6:12).

I am exercising faithful stewardship when I come to the

King’s Table. It is an act of faithfulness to my trust (1 Cor

4:2).

When you take your seat at the King’s Table you affirm to

yourself, God, & others that you are a faithful Christian (1

Pt 4:16).

Mealtime is family time. When we partake of the Supper, therefore, we acknowledge we are members “one of another” & members of God’s family (Eph 3:15; 1:10, 20).

Partaking of the Supper helps us renew our minds & refocus on having the attitude of Christ (Rm 12:1-2; Phil 2:5-8).

When we partake of the Lord’s Supper we affirm our belief in the wisdom of God. A wisdom that brought Jesus to die (Jn 3:16; Eph 1:5-12; 1 Cor 2:7-10).

Page 25: Meditations For The Lords Supper

When we partake of the Lord’s Supper we are “obedient

children” (1 Pt 1:14). Children must be at the Supper

Table! Only a disobedient child would fail to come home at

supper time.
