Maroota MUSTER 20th August

There is excitement in the air as we countdown the days until the Maroota MUSTER! If you have not done so already please contact the P&C to see where you can help out. This wonderful community event provides financial support for our school of which every child benefits. I encourage all families to help out where they can even if it’s only for an hour or two, every little bit counts towards the overall success of the MUSTER.

Bounce Back! Term 3

In evaluating information gathered from student and parent surveys, and behaviour incident reports we will be commencing a Resilience and Student Wellbeing program called Bounce Back!

If you are resilient you are able to cope reasonably well with difficult situations and things that go wrong and then ‘bounce back’. Throughout life children will need skills and attitudes to help them to bounce back. They will encounter everyday challenges such as making mistakes, falling out with a friend, moving house or school and losing in a sports competition.

Many will also face challenges such as adapting to family breakdowns, a step-family, the illness or death of a family member, or being bullied.

The BOUNCE BACK! Wellbeing and Resilience program teaches children the skills and attitudes to help them become more resilient. It uses literature as a starting point for discussions and follow-up activities.

Information for parents will be published in the newsletter as we work through the program.

2017 Grandparents

Day

Tuesday

1st August

Our School Captains Brooke and Arryn will be collecting donations of non-perishable food items, gloves, socks and toiletry supplies this week. All items will be delivered to Hawkesbury Helping Hands at the end of Term 2. Brooke and Arryn would like to thank everyone for their support. RED Note With the occurrence of recent incidents involving stranger danger across NSW, Maroota Public School has reviewed how we notify families of emergencies. We have introduced the following procedure. At Maroota Public School any emergency, be it a Stranger Alert or any other emergency where families need to be notified, every family in the school will be sent a Red Note. Red Notes are obviously not restricted to ‘Tuesday Note Day’ and will always go out to families when the school experiences or is notified of an incident that requires family notification. Notifications will also be made via the Skoolbag app. The instructions of how to download the free app are included in this newsletter. If you have any questions about Red Notes or the app please contact the school on 4566 8231. ‘The Daniel Morcombe Foundation’ website has many resources which could assist families in educating their children about Stranger Danger. All staff have access to this site and refer to the available resources to highlight Stranger Danger; particularly when a Red Note is handed out in regards to a Stranger Alert. I encourage all families to visit this site and make themselves aware of the valuable resources available. http://www.danielmorcombe.com.au/ Semester 1 Student Reports Student reports will be sent home on Thursday. All staff are available throughout the year to discuss your child/children’s progress. Our next Parent/Teacher Interviews will be held in Term 3.

Water in our World K12 have been learning about how we use water in our world during our science program. They have also been learning about the water cycle. K12 has created some beautiful ‘Rainbow’ paintings and sang the Rainbow Song at assembly. Well done K12!

Past and Present Our history program this term is all about the past and the present. K12 has been learning about artefacts and buildings around the school, which are part of our history. Mrs Mackenzie was kind enough to drive her beautiful vintage 1926 Chevy to scripture last week so that the students could have their photo taken! Thanks Mrs Mackenzie!

Class Dojo Heroes Congratulations to our Class Dojo Heroes so far this term: Knox (3 weeks in a row!), Annikah (2 weeks in a row!), Charlie and Maria. Class Dojo Heroes are the students who have earned the most points for displaying respectful listening behaviour, participation, doing their best and being helpful.

Mrs Dorbis will return in Term 3. We hope Mrs Dorbis is having a wonderful time on her holiday and we have been checking in with her photos and posts on Class Story. I have been really enjoying teaching K12 during Term 2, what a wonderful group of students! Ms Fran Haine

SPOTLIGHT ON NSW PSSA

Small Schools Knockout Maroota PS v Cowan PS

Years 5-6 Soccer Report

We had a great time competing in the NSW PSSA Small Schools Knockout! It was exciting to play

against Cowan Public School because we have not played against another school in soccer before.

Darcy scored an awesome goal and Arryn almost scored our second goal but it rebounded off the

crossbar and went bush. Everyone tried their best to defend their goal. We all learnt that some

things are much harder than they look and we’re all looking forward to playing together again at

lunchtime. Cowan Public School were successful today (4-1) and we wish them all the best in their

next match.

CALLING ALL LOCAL BUSINESS WOMEN

The Galston Community Bank Branch of the Bendigo Bank invites you to attend a “Women in Business” event.

Have you asked yourself:

I’ve got a great idea for a business but where do I start? I’ve been in business for a few years - how do I take it to the next level? I’m a stay at home mum but I’d love to do something for “me”. Can I start my own business? My business is not doing as well as I thought it would. Is it time to give up? I would love to connect with other women and share business experiences. Where can I do that?

If you’ve asked yourself any of these questions (and others) then this event is for you!

WHEN: Wednesday 26th July at 10.30am-12.00pm WHERE: Glenorie RSL Club COST: FREE

Come and connect with other local business women and have some fun while being inspired by the experiences of others.
