Personal interests include reading, travel and outdoor activities. I am fortunate enough to have had some success in my teaching career and enjoyed very much working in all my previous appointments. My students’ progress is of the utmost importance to me and I do all I can to guide them through their educational journey. I enjoy developing materials and courses based on learner needs and I am an advocate of teaching 21 st century skills, and autonomy in the classroom alongside language learning. I am most keen on Applied Linguistics and I keep up do date by reading the latest academic articles published in various journals around the world, with an obvious focus on Viet Nam. I plan on continuing a research agenda in order to contribute to the development of language learning, especially within Vietnam. I am also interested in English as a Lingua Franca and how English is used by Non-Native speakers for international communication, or ELF (English as a Lingua Franca). As many of my learners have gone on to study abroad I have also found much interest in sharing western cultural aspects of life in the UK and the US and Europe, in order to better prepare them for study life in western nations. On my Master’s course at Portsmouth I was fortunate enough to be guided by the likes of Dr. Mario Saraceni and Dr. Glenn Hadikin, who were instrumental in my progress. Study skills and good learning habits are vital to the success of overseas learners and as I feel responsible for part of their success I feel it necessary to equip them with the tools they needs to achieve their learning goals.
