Our Lady, Mother of the Church Mission Statement We, the members of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, are drawn together through baptism as a part of the Body of Christ. We are a caring Catholic community, working together as instruments through which Jesus, our risen Lord and Head, continues His mission. Linked to Christ as His Body, we believe that the risen Jesus still proclaims God’s word, gives thanks and praise, welcomes, nurtures, comforts and reaches out to all people. Using the hands and hearts of the members of the parish, with a growing sense that each of us is gifted and has an important part to play in our Parish, Church and World, we renew our call: ♦ to be a Parish diligent about Word and Eucharist, the primary source of our nourishment and spiritual growth... ♦ to be “missioned” - sent forth in the person of Jesus, to bring His Word and Eucharist to family, friends, neighbors and workplace... ♦ to reach out to the sick, the homebound, the persecuted, the lonely, the poor and the bereaved… ♦ to find time to share laughter, joy, friendship, at times, tears; and always to share the goodness of each other...

Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ, Spring arrives in four days! The light wins over the darkness. I hope that the same happens in your hearts as that which we observe in nature. During the passing week we enjoyed the com-bined Lenten Mission, with not a typical theme, but a reflection on the Renew My Church ef-forts. Usually during Lent, we reflect on our own personal renovation. But, can we only think about our own relation to God without thinking about the community of the Church? There are very important ties between our spiritual growth and the well-being of the whole Church. We can’t be like the people on the Titanic playing and dancing while the boat is sinking. Lastly, on the news there was much discussion about the Boeing 737 Max. Is there any faulty process

or not? If there is really something wrong, we can fix it and avoid another crash. The same is in our spiritual life, and in the life of the whole Church. The little thing – if we can fix it, we can avoid another crash. Was not Jesus telling us about leaven of malice, a little substance which has effect on the whole bread? We need each other in our spiritual development, and we need the well being of all the Church for our growth in faith. Today, our Saint Vincent DePaul Society hosts, in the narthex, a little reception in honor of St. Patrick, the missionary of Ireland. He is a great example of bringing the little seed of the Word of God to the people. The little thing which brought great fruits. On Tuesday, we will honor St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Bible doesn’t bring us any word spoken by St. Joseph, but his life, his dedication, his decisions tell us a lot about his great faith and trust in God. In addition to our morning Mass in English, on Tuesday morning, the Italian Catholic Federation will have a Mass in Italian, in the evening. On Wednesday, we will have an opportunity for prayer, reflection, eucharistic adoration, and reconciliation at Wor-ship Evening. Please come, this is the time, this a Lent. Wednesday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the church. Our Mu-sic Ministry is sponsoring this worship service. This coming Sunday we will host an inspirational performance – Saint Catherine of Siena – Woman for our Times, starring Adrian Dominican Sister Nancy Murray, OP. Please come and enjoy the artistic performance, and experi-ence spiritual encouragement. Tickets are on sale in the narthex, and at the rectory office. After the performance, which will take place at the church, there will be a reception in Hayes Center. During the reception we will also have the drawing for our Spring Raffle. Do not miss your lucky drawing. If you need more raffle tickets, you can get them in the rectory office. By the way, while you are in the Hayes Center, you should look at our renovated re-strooms. This project was a part of the To Teach Who Christ Is campaign. Thank you for your generosity. With your money we were able to update the restrooms and make them accessible. Also, you will notice that the stage was moved against the wall, the old TV set passed into history, and a new big flat screen will serve our events in Hayes Center. An anonymous volunteer was glad to take care of the new TV bills. If we can get a couple other do-nations, we can renew our restrooms in the narthex, as well.

May God bless you on the Lenten journey! Father Andrew

Lenten Food Drive For the third week of Lent, please do-nate non-perishable, unexpired grains such as cereal, including hot cereals like oatmeal, canned pasta and shelf-stable pasta, crackers, rice and rice side dishes. When you come to Mass, there will be baskets in the narthex and vestibule for your dona-tion. Thank you very much for giving food to feed the hungry during this Lenten season.

Bible Study This Wednesday, March 20, we will study Saint Paul’s Letter to the Colos-sians from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. in Hayes Center. It is only four chapters. Include reading this letter from the Bible in your Lenten prayer.

Hospitality after Mass The Ministers of Welcome and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will have St. Patrick’s Day hospital-ity after the Masses this weekend. Please stop by for coffee, Green River, soda bread and more!

Since 1887, Mercy Home has offered young peo-ple who have experienced abuse, poverty, ne-glect, or violence with a safe place to call home. The children at Mercy Home are given the tools they need to grow into successful, self-reliant adults, through tools like a good education, life skills, job experience, and career support. Last year, more than 950 young people and families were served through Mercy Home’s residential, aftercare, mentoring, and referral programs. Be-cause Mercy Home is 100% privately funded, the support of donors is critical to their mission. The Knights of Columbus Council # 14597 will be here in the Narthex before and after all Masses on the weekend of March 24th for the “March for Kids” campaign. Let’s show them our support!

Prevalent Myth About Domestic Violence Perhaps the greatest myth about domestic vi-olence is that what goes on within the family is nobody else’s business. The fact is that vi-olent crime is everybody’s business. Harm-ful, hurtful and dangerous behavior that we

have outlawed in public should not be tolerat-ed in our homes. Victims of domestic vio-lence need support and assistance, and abu-sive partners should be held accountable.
