We’d also like you to know…
Order of Service - You’ll find everything you need for the worship service printed in this colourful
leaflet – prayers, scripture readings and hymns, along with instructions in italics, so you’ll know
when to stand, sit or kneel. If you have difficulty standing or kneeling, it’s completely ok to remain
seated. Announcements about events and opportunities within our community are listed in the back
of the leaflet, along with contact information for our church.
Children - Children and infants are most welcome. We have a children’s program for younger
kids that takes place on stage in the Parish Hall during the service. They return to the sanctuary
at the time of Communion. Children are also free to stay with you during the service. If your child
becomes fussy or your baby is in need of feeding or changing, don’t worry! Our sides person at
the back of the church can direct you to our nursery in the Payton Room, while still hearing the
service through a loudspeaker. Please don’t be embarrassed if your baby cries or your children
get fidgety. We understand that children make noise and move around.
Holy Communion - Those who have been baptized in any Christian church, including children,
are welcome to receive communion. If you have not been baptized yet or do not wish to receive the
bread and wine, you are welcome to come to the altar rail for a blessing. Simply cross your hands
over your chest to alert the priest you wish to receive a blessing.
Please ensure that your cell phone is turned off or in the mute position.
Hymns marked (LEV) are from the hymnal “Lift Every Voice and Sing”
Welcome Greeting Fr. Daniel
Processional Hymn: #615 – “JUST AS I AM” Please stand & sing
Just as I am, without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me,
and that thou biddest me come to thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind; sight, riches, healing of the mind,
yea, all I need, in thee to find, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
Just as I am, though tossed about with many a conflict, many a doubt,
fightings and fears within, without, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
Just as I am, and waiting not to rid my soul of one dark blot,
to thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

The Proclamation of the Word Please be seated
Reader: A Reading from the Book of Genesis.
After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, “Do not be afraid,
Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.” But Abram said, “O Lord God,
what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of
Damascus?” And Abram said, “You have given me no offspring, and so a slave born in
my house is to be my heir.” But the word of the Lord came to him, “This man shall not
be your heir; no one but your very own issue shall be your heir.” He brought him outside
and said, “Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them.”
Then he said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” And he believed the Lord; and the
Lord reckoned it to him as righteousness. Then he said to him, “I am the Lord who brought
you from Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to possess.” But he said, “O Lord
God, how am I to know that I shall possess it?” He said to him, “Bring me a heifer three
years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young
pigeon.” He brought him all these and cut them in two, laying each half over against the
other; but he did not cut the birds in two. And when birds of prey came down on the
carcasses, Abram drove them away. As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon
Abram, and a deep and terrifying darkness descended upon him. When the sun had gone
down and it was dark, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.
On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your descendants I give
this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates.”
Reader: The word of the Lord. Genesis 15.1-12,17-18
People: Thanks be to God. A moment of silence is observed
Psalm 27.1-6 Please remain seated
The Choir sings the refrain, all repeat
Cantor: The Lord is my light and my sal-vation; whom then shall I fear? the Lord is the
strength of my life; of whom then shall I be afraid? Refrain
Cantor: When the wicked, even my enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my
flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though a host encamp against me, my heart shall
not be afraid, and though there rise up war against me yet will I put my trust in
him. Refrain
Cantor: One thing have I asked of the Lord; One think I seek; that I may dwell in the
house of the Lord all the days of my life. To behold the fair beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple. Refrain
Cantor: For in the day of trouble he shall hide me in his shelter, in the secret place of his
dwelling shall he hide me and set me high upon a rock. And now shall he lift
up my head above my enemies round about me. Refrain
Cantor: Therefore will I offer in his dwelling an oblation with great gladness, I will sing
and make music to the Lord. Hear my voice, O Lord, when I call; have mercy
upon me and answer me. Refrain
Cantor: My heart tells of your word, “Seek my face.” Your face, Lord, will I seek. Hide
not your face from me, nor cast your servant away in displeasure. Refrain
Reader: A Reading from the Letter of Paul to the Philippians. Please be seated
Brothers and sisters, join in imitating me, and observe those who live according to the
example you have in us. For many live as enemies of the cross of Christ; I have often told
you of them, and now I tell you even with tears. Their end is destruction; their god is the
belly; and their glory is in their shame; their minds are set on earthly things. But our
citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Saviour, the Lord Jesus
Christ. He will transform the body of our humiliation that it may be conformed to the body
of his glory, by the power that also enables him to make all things subject to himself.
Therefore, my brothers and sisters, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand
firm in the Lord in this way, my beloved.
Reader: The word of the Lord. Philippians 3.17-4.1
People: Thanks be to God. A moment of silence is observed
Sequence Hymn: (Tune #354) – “SINCE THE LORD IS MY SALVATION” Please stand & sing
The first two verses are sung before the Gospel.
Since the Lord is my salvation, is there anyone to fear?
As a citizen of heaven why should I feel worry here?
In a world that's lost and broken and where sin and death abound,
We rejoice for God has spoken: we are safe, on solid ground.
God will hide me in the shelter when the days of trouble come.
Though a war may rise against me, God's own tent will be my home.
I will trust what God has given, I will trust God's word to me:
I'm a citizen of heaven and it's what I'll always be.
The last verse will be sung; after the Gospel.
Even when I hear the warning, "Find a safer, easier way,"
I'll be faithful in the morning and at noon and close of day.
As a citizen of heaven, I have nothing I should fear;
For in Christ, I am forgiven, and I'm called to service here.
The Gospel
Priest: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you.
Priest: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke.
People:
At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to Jesus, “Get away from here, for Herod
wants to kill you.” He said to them, “Go and tell that fox for me, ‘Listen, I am casting out
demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work.
Yet today, tomorrow, and the next day I must be on my way, because it is impossible for
a prophet to be killed outside of Jerusalem.’ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the
prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your
children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!
See, your house is left to you. And I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes
when you say, ‘Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.”
Priest: The Gospel of Christ. Luke 13.31-35

Sermon Please be seated
The Nicene Creed Please stand
Leader: Let us confess our faith as we say,
All: We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only
Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from
Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the
Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he
came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became
incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.
Hear us, O Lord, have mer cy- up on- us: for we have sin ned- a gainst- thee.
All: For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and
was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures;
he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He
will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom
will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped
and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy
catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the
forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of
the world to come. Amen.

celestial; cleanse thou our sinful souls from all defilement.

children; pity and pardon all our grievous trespasses.
All sing the refrain
Cantor: Sins oft committed now we lay before thee; with true contrition, now no more we
veil them; grant us, Redeemer, loving absolution.

Offertory Hymn: (LEV #101) – “SOFTLY AND TENDERLY, JESUS IS CALLING” All sing
Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling, calling for you and for me:
See, on the portals He’s waiting and atching, watching for you and for me.
Refrain: Come home, Come home, Come home, come home,
Ye who are weary, come home! Earnestly, tenderly,
Jesus is calling, calling, O sinner, come home!
Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading, pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not His mercies, mercies for you and for me?
Refrain:
Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing, passing for you and for me;
Shadows are gathering, death beds are coming, coming for you and for me.
Refrain:
Oh! For the wonderful love He has promised, promised for you and for me;
Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon, pardon for you and for me.
Refrain: We give out of our blessings to bless others.
If you are new or visiting, please don’t feel you need to give anything.
We welcome back the children from Sunday school during the offertory sentence.
Offertory Sentence All sing
The Celebration of the Eucharist
Priest: God of wisdom, may the light of the eternal Word, our Lord and Saviour Jesus
Christ, guide us to your glory. We ask this in his name. All: Amen.
Priest: It is indeed right that we should praise you, gracious God, for you created all
things. You formed us in your own image: male and female you created us. When
we turned away from you in sin, you did not cease to care for us, but opened a
path of salvation for all people. You made a covenant with Israel, and through
your servants Abraham and Sarah gave the promise of a blessing to all nations.
Through Moses and Miriam you led your people from bondage into freedom;
through the prophets you renewed your promise of salvation. Therefore, with
them, and with all your saints who have served you in every age, we give thanks
and raise our voices to proclaim the glory of your name.
Sanctus All sing
Please kneel or be seated
Priest: Holy God, source of life and goodness, all creation rightly gives you praise. In the fullness of time, you sent your Son Jesus Christ, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all. He healed the sick and ate and drank with outcasts and sinners; he opened the eyes of the blind and proclaimed the good news of your kingdom to the poor and to those in need. In all things he fulfilled your gracious will. On the night he freely gave himself to death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: this is my body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
Priest: After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it
to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.” Gracious God, his perfect sacrifice destroys the power of sin and death; by raising him to life you give us life for evermore. Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith
All: Christ has died Christ is Risen. Christ will come again.
Priest: Recalling his death, proclaiming his resurrection, and looking for his coming again in glory, we offer you, Father, this bread and this cup. Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts, that all who eat and drink at this table may be one body and one holy people, a living sacrifice in Jesus Christ, our Lord. Through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory is yours, almighty Father, now and for ever.
All: Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer All sing unaccompanied
Priest: God of promise, you prepare a banquet for us in your kingdom.
All: Happy are those who arecalled to the supper of the Lamb.
Priest: The gifts of God for the People of God.
People: Thanks be to God.

Communion Hymn: #60 – “I COME WITH JOY” All sing
I come with joy, a child of God, forgiven, loved, and free,
the life of Jesus to recall, in love laid down for me.
I come with Christians far and near to find, as all are fed,
the new community of love in Christ's communion bread.
As Christ breaks bread and bids us share, each proud division ends.
The love that made us makes us one, and strangers now are friends.
The spirit of the risen Christ, unseen but ever near,
is in such friendship better known, alive among us here.
Together met, together bound by all that God has done,
we'll go with joy, to give the world the love that makes us one.
Praise Hymn: (LEV # 189) - “GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS” All sing
Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father, there is no shadow of turning with thee;
thou changest not, they compassions, they fail not, as though hast been thou forever wilt be.
Refrain: Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed thy hand hath provided,
Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!
Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest, sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness, to thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Refrain:
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, Thine own dear presence to cheer an to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Refrain:
Prayer after Communion
Priest: Father of All,
All: we give you thanks and praise, that while we were still far off you met us in
your Son and brought us home. Living, dying and rising again, he declared
your love, gave us grace and opened the gates of glory. May we who share
Christ's body, live his risen life. We who drink his cup, bring life to others.
We whom the Spirit lights, give light to the world. Keep us firm in the hope
you have set before us, so that we and all your children shall be free, and the
whole earth live to praise your name, through Jesus Christ, Our
Lord. Amen.
