  • ADVENT PRAYER DEVOTIONAL

Preparing for the Coming of Jesus

    2020

  • INTRODUCTION

As our world is shaking around us in many ways, it is morecritical than ever to fix our eyes on Jesus as our only true sourceof HOPE, LOVE, JOY and PEACE if we are to remain rooted andgrounded in Him through the turmoil both now and to come. AsGod’s children and chosen people, He calls us to lead the wayin demonstrating and offering His truth and light to the world, and that means we must first know it deeply for ourselves andembody it as a Church. Using the Psalms and other Scriptures asa guide, may these next four weeks of Advent be a time ofreflection, consecration, adoration, and deepening of ourunderstanding and longing for Jesus to come—in our ownhearts, in our church and in the earth. By actively engaging God through prayer, the Scriptures andresources provided, and perhaps even fasting if you feel led todo so, we can prepare our hearts and be united in prayer as acommunity, even through this season of uncertainty and separa-tion, to receive afresh the hope, love, joy and peace that is oursin Christ Jesus. Maranatha, O Lord Jesus, Come! We need You!

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as youtrust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the powerof the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13 NIV).

There aremany promises in God’s Word that give us hope and encour-agement not only to endure the trials we experience on earth, but to remember how fleeting those trials are in light of theeverlasting life that Jesus came to give us. Take time this weekto meditate on where our true hope is found and give thanks toGod for His many promises.

“Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And because Godraised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory, your faithand hope can be placed confidently in God” (1 Peter 1:21 NLT).
