Eating Mindfully: How to End
Mindless Eating and Enjoy a
Balanced Relationship with
Food Review
There are a handful of popular books on
mindful eating. While researching lists of the
most popular ones I came across Eating
Mindfully. It appears on a lot of the lists of
favorite mindful eating books so it seemed
worth giving a closer look.
On Amazon the reviews are a mixed bag. Most
are 4 and 5 stars with a spattering of 1-3 stars,
which is actually encouraging since I don’t trust
books with nothing but rave reviews. No book is
perfect to everyone!
If you struggle with mindless snacking, cravings
you can’t win against, or shame when you
decide to eat the foods you love then this book
is for you. Mindful eating is the cure for all of
that.
It’s about more than just eating as well, mindful
eating is about creating a healthy relationship
with food that’s good for the mind and the
body. Eating a meal should nourish the body
and soul. It should be an enjoyable experience,
not a rushed one.
The thing is, that’s so different from how most
people think today. Learn how to slow down
and really enjoy your food.
Did you know that by slowing down and really
focusing on your food you’ll not only eat less
but you’ll feel more satisfied with the meal? On
top of that your body will have an easier time
digesting the meal.
I think the biggest thing you can pull from this
book is the part about guilt. So many diets out
there tell you what you can’t eat. They tell you
to eat less in general, exercise more, and they
make you feel bad about ever indulging in foods
deemed “unhealthy.” The thing is, you should
never feel guilty about eating food. There are
no bad foods. Sure, some are more nourishing,

but eating some ice cream or a donut isn’t going
to hurt you.
Rather than looking at things as mistakes, this
book teaches you to look at them as choices.
Each bite you take is a choice and you should
never feel bad about the choices you make.
Instead, just listen to how your body feels and
try to make choices that make your body feel
better.
There is a Kindle version of this book available
but I highly suggest the paperback. It’s one of
those books that is more effective when you
can dog ear and highlight important pages to
refer to later. You’ll also want to refer to it as
you work towards better mindful eating.

and Enjoy a Balanced Relationship with Food
Meal by Meal: 365 Daily
Meditations for Finding
Balance Through Mindful
Eating Review
Mindful eating is a lifestyle choice and
sometimes it’s a little hard to keep up with it.
It’s easy to fall back into your old habits. That’s
why Meal by Meal is such a great find! The daily
motivation format is great for giving you a little
push or reminder.
Each day you get a tip, quote, or tidbit to help
you with your mindful eating journey. It’s a
companion to help you create a healthier
relationship with food.
It pulls from Zen stories, Native American
practices, various religious texts, famous
quotes, and meditations. You get a little bit of
everything!
Will this book help you lose weight? It depends.
Mindful eating can help you eat less and still be
satisfied. It can help you stop binge eating and
make healthier choices. This book won’t lose
weight for you but it’ll be a very helpful tool in
sticking to your plan day after day.
You can get this book in paperback which is nice
for bookmarking and taking notes in, but you
can also save a nice chunk of money and get the
Kindle version if you want. Remember, you can
read Kindle books on any device including PC,
Mac, cell phones, and tablets. It’s not just
Kindle ereaders!
Mindful eating is really a form of meditation
revolving around food so taking a bit of time to
read a daily meditation can really open you up
to starting the day right. Most people who
bought this book said it helped them stay on
track better than ever before. By reading their
daily passage during one of their meals it
helped them center around eating mindfully
rather than falling back into bad habits.
Reviewers all agree that on top of being great
content, the book itself is beautiful and well
made.
The biggest complaint is that it’s not as
“content rich” as most people are used to. You
do need to remember that this is a daily
motivation book so it’s meant to take just a few
minutes to read the entry for that day so you
can move on and carry the words with you.
Don’t expect to spend hours reading it, more
like 2-3 minutes each day.
Some also said that not all of the herb or food
recommendations were helpful to them, but
the overwhelming response was that there was
so much great stuff that a handful of days they
didn’t enjoy didn’t stop the book from being
worth reading.
If you’re looking for a way to add a little more
motivation and inspiration to your daily rituals,
this book is a great place to start.

Mindless Eating: Why We Eat
More Than We Think Review
We all know that most people eat more than
they should. Most of those people also don’t
realize just how much they’re eating. You could
be one of those people! Our sense of portions
has been skewed. On top of that, mindless
eating and snacking are overwhelmingly
common.
In “Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We
Think,” the author not only explores ways to eat
less without feeling hungry but he also explores
why we eat the way we do. He backs it up with
facts and figures from his research.
This book is meant to be a quick read but it’s
filled with eye opening information. Knowing
why we make bad eating decisions can go a long
way in helping us making better decisions.
For example, have you noticed that when you
go out with your friends it’s easier to eat more
than you would have on your own? Whether or
not you’ve noticed it, you probably do and this
book can help you learn why (as well as how to
stop).
Did you know that restaurants and
supermarkets rely on psychology when
developing marketing techniques designed to
get you to eat more? After all, the more you eat
the more you spend. Learn the secrets behind
their tricks so you can avoid them.
His section on tips for reducing consumption
can help you lose weight without any extra
effort. It’s full of small ways to cut back on food
without feeling hungry or deprived.
One of the nice things about this book is that it
comes in all kinds of formats. The most popular
by far is hardback but you can also buy a
paperback, digital copy, or audiobook.
As a side note, the Kindle version doesn’t have
footnotes so it’s harder to go and read his
sources. If you’re the type of person who wants
to be able to read sources and research topics
more deeply you should make sure to pick up a
physical copy.
It was particularly interesting hearing about the
different experiments he performed to
understand eating habits. He tested things like
whether plate size had an effect on how much
food people ate. The music playing or colors of
the walls in a room or restaurant can change
how fast or how much we eat if we’re not
eating mindfully, but how much?
You’ll learn about all of these things and much
more in “Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More
Than We Think.” It’s a fun and interesting read
and it’s not going to be one of those 500 page
books that take weeks to get through. You can
sit down and read it all in one sitting and refer
back to it whenever you need a reminder.

Crock Pot Cook and Carry
Review
Slow cookers allow you to cook so many great
dishes with little to no work. You can toss in a
chunk of meat and tons of different veggies,
add a liquid, and end up with a delicious meal in
a few hours. They’re especially great for
creating dishes with tender meat such as roasts
or for making vegetable packed soups and
stews.
Crock Pot is a well-known name in slow
cookers. Some even say the words are
synonymous. The quality of Crock Pot products
just can’t be argued with.
This particular model is great because it’s built
to take with you. One of the challenges when
you’re changing your eating habits is eating
with others. Bringing your own dish to parties
and picnics is a great way to help keep your
eating habits in check.
Here are some of the great features of the
Crock Pot Cook and Carry slow cooker.
It has a 6 quart capacity which can
easily hold a nice sized roast along with
veggies. You won’t need to worry about
not having enough room to cook for the
whole family.
There is a lid locking feature so you
don’t need to worry about a mess. Most
“travel slow cookers” have bungee
cords which work okay but still leave
you with leaks. This one locks the lid on
nice and tight so there won’t be a mess
when you arrive at your destination.
You can program the slow cooker with
your temperature and time. When the
food is cooked it’ll turn to its “warming”
setting so the food will be ready
whenever you want to eat it.
It’s easy to clean when you’re done.
Foods don’t stick to the surfaces so you
can easily wipe the slow cooker down
and be done.
It’s compact with no unneeded bulk.
Some slow cookers have extra plastic
casing that does nothing but take up
more space on the counter and in the
cupboard.
The slow cooker looks great on the
table. No need to transfer the food to a
dish, just put the entire Crock Pot on
the table and serve out of it!
On top of all of that, Crock Pot brand slow
cookers are affordable and make a great first
slow cooker if you’ve never had one. They
quality is great, they’re easy to use, and this one
has all of the features you could be hoping for
in a slow cooker.

Hamilton Beach 6-Quart
Programmable Cool-Surround
Slow Cooker
When you start looking into mindful eating
most of it seems very doable, but one of the
core ideals of it is trying to cook food and use
fresh ingredients whenever possible. That’s not
always easy to do, especially if you have a job
and need to cook for a family.
A slow cooker is a great tool for helping you
cook flavorful and nutritious meals without the
hassle of spending hours in the kitchen cooking
yourself.
This slow cooker by Hamilton Beach has a lot of
cool features that make it perfect for someone
who’s trying to create healthier meals without
added work.
Here are some of the top features worth
mentioning.
It holds six quarts which is enough room
for a 6 pound chicken, 4 pound roast, or
enough of any other main dish to serve
a family and still have leftovers.
The base is insulated so not only does it
take less energy but it’s cool to the
touch. This is especially important for
families with small children who could
burn their hands touching the outside
of the average slow cooker.
It’s built to cook food evenly. You won’t
end up with parts that are overdone
and parts that are underdone.
The pan is removable and nonstick so it
can be used on the stove to brown or
sear your meats. This is a very unique
feature I’ve never seen in a slow cooker
before.
The pan is nonstick and the lid is
dishwasher safe so clean up is a breeze.
Here’s the big one… it’s programmable!
You toss your ingredients in, input your
settings, and the slow cooker does the
rest.
The biggest issue with this slow cooker is that
it’s pretty big and bulky. It takes up more space
than other 6 quart slow cookers. Depending on
the size of your family it may be a little bigger
than you need for your recipes as well.
Make sure you’re prepared for something that
takes up a good chunk of the counter while
you’re cooking!
Of course, if you’ve got the space this is a really
unique and feature packed slow cooker that will
give you the opportunity to craft nourishing and
flavorful meals for you and your family!
