¿Por qué celebramos el día del Pilar?

• La Virgen del Pilar is the Patron Saint of Zaragoza.

• The apostle Santiago came to Zaragoza to cristianize people.

• The Virgin Mary appeared to him and asked him to build

a temple to honour her.

¿Qué hacemos el día 12 de octubre?

• We offer flowers to the Virgin Mary to celebrate this day.

• We make a flower dress around a “pilar”.

¿Cómo nos divertimos en los Pilares?

• We go to concerts: Maxima, Melendi, Bustamante, Estopa, Juan Magan, Rosario Flores…

• We go to the “corridas de toros”• We go to the funfair.• The”gigantes” and “cabezudos” chase us.• We enjoy fireworks.• We buy necklaces, bracelets… in the street market.• We visit an exhibition centre called “Feria de

Nuestra ropa y complementos

• Cachirulo is a piece of red and black squared cloth that you wear

around your neck or round your wrist.• We wear “petos” (dungarees) to be more

comfortable and don’t dirty our clothes.• We get dressed with our “traje regional”, the

outfit that our greatgrandparents used to wear.

Letras y flores• Students from 3 to 17 years old make flowers of

reclying material: briks, paper, straws, napkins…• Secondary and Sixth form students build the

school year motto “¿Qué suena dentro de ti?” and read a prayer to the Virgin of the Pilar.

• We offer shampoos, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste,… that the nuns of our school give to charity (kindergardens, OAP houses,day centres)

Chocolate con churros

• When our Ofrenda (parade) finishes, the school give us “chocolate con churros”.

• Classes are called off from 10:00 to 13:00 and we have a two-hour break.

• 3rd and 4th Secondary students and sixth form students have the afternoon off.

• They play music and some studentslove dancing.
