What is the Lorain Library levy?

 The Lorain Library levy will be on the March 15 ballot for those who reside in the Lorainity !chools district" The #ve year, 5"$5 %ill levy is a renewal and an increase & arenewal of the current '"0( %ill o)eratin* levy a))roved in 2011 and a s%all increase of1"(+ %ills" The levy is for #ve years" It will *enerate about 3,2(3,20$ )er year, whichis ($ )ercent of the direct e-)enses for the Main Library and !outh Lorain .ranch"

Why is the levy needed?

 The current levy will e-)ire at the end of 2016" !ince 200(, there has been a reductionin state fundin* for )ublic libraries" /dd to that increased foreclosures and declinin*)ro)erty values & which reduce local )ro)erty ta- revenues & and youll understand thelibrarys fundin* crisis" ithout the levy, library ocials will be forced to %ae drastic

cuts" Those cuts are listed on 4a*e 2"

How much will the levy cost the owner of a home in the Lorain City Schoolsdistrict?

/n owner of a ho%e with a %aret value of 100,000 in the Lorain ity !chools districtwill )ay 15"(+ )er %onth & less than the cost of a hardbac best&seller"

Are funds raised by this levy only used to operate Lorain libraries?

 The Lorain 4ublic Library !yste% board of trustees is co%%itted to wisely %ana*in* ta-dollars to )reserve as %any core library services as )ossible within the bud*et" The MainLibrary and !outh Lorain .ranch bene#t fro% tain* advanta*e of the library syste%sability to share services and resources" owever, the hours, services and library%aterials locally at the Main Library and !outh Lorain .ranch rest increasin*ly in thehands of Lorain ity !chools district residents and their local levy su))ort"

%a*a8ines, strea%in* %usic and %ovies, and other downloadables" There is no char*efor co%%unity or*ani8ations to use the meetin! rooms at their Lorain libraries" In201', co%%unity *rou)s used the %eetin* roo%s over 2+5 ti%es" Lorain libraries have+5 computers for )ublic use, and o7er pro!rams for all a*es 9 fro% story ti%es andco%)uter instruction to e-ercise sessions and arn lub" In focus *rou) %eetin*s held in2015, an e%)hasis was )laced on youn* )eo)le and the library worin* with schools"!ta7 has been %ore active with schools & conductin* )ro*ra%s at schools, teachin*students how to use the eLibrary, and welco%in* schools and day cares into the library"
