Masthead

The masthead that I used in my preliminary task is extremely simple and basic, and would attract a good audience. Although my final magazine is more modern but it has added effects, which I learnt how to do on Quark during the process of making the magazine. The final piece is more appealing to the target audience as it is more edgy. This reflects greatly on how much I have improved throughout the process of making each ask and how my skills were developed when using the different programmes.

Front Cover Image

You can see a huge contrast when looking at each image, this is because the camera I used to take the preliminary front cover image was just with the camera on my phone and the photo for my main magazine was taken with a DSLR camera so the quality is much higher. The location of the picture was more thought out and more planning was made of the mise en scene of the image, which includes the outfit he is wearing and the props in the image in this case the guitar, as it is more relevant for a music magazine. I used photoshop on the main image for the magazine so the lighting has been improved and blemishes have been removed to make the image look flawless. As you can see the images are worlds apart because of the lighting the first image is very dull and the second is bright and has high lighting.

CONTENT PAGE LAYOUT:

The content page that I created in my preliminary task was very basic and not well organized, which would have put the audience off reading the magazine. However my magazine that I have made for the music magazine the content page is well planned out and sticks to a relevant theme through the magazine. The pictures used are more professional and more relevant to the magazine and the content structure helps with making it look professional.

FONTS USED:

The final piece that I made used consistent fonts throughout, using fonts right throughout the magazine is extremely effective in the magazine as it makes it look more professional and well planned. I used capitals when needed and used certain effects on the fonts to make them stand out, unlike the preliminary task the font used on that was just from work and wasn’t well thought out at all which made it look unprofessional. I got a font from the internet and used it as my content and masthead font, this shows that I went the extra mile to find exactly the right font for my magazine and a lot of time and planning went into finding a good and relevant font that would attract a good audience.
