Longstone Primary Home Learning Grid - Primary 3A Week beginning Tuesday 23.06.20

Reading: Read for 10 minutes daily. The

Oxford Owl username is missalexanderp3

and the password is Longstonep3.

This week’s reading skill is to discuss what

is happening in the book, focussing on the

beginning, middle and end. Read a book

and then choose a scene from a book you

have read. Imagine you are peeping at it

through a keyhole and only get a glimpse of

the story. What would you see to tell us

what is happening? What details are

important? Draw a part of the story

through a key hole and refer to ‘help sheet

3’ as a guide.

Spelling: We are learning to practise our

tricky words.

Look, say, cover, write and check each of

your tricky words three times, refer to

‘help sheet 4’.

Numeracy: This week we are going to revise

rounding numbers. Rounding means making a number

simpler but keeping its value close to what it was.

We know that rounding can help us add and takeaway,

it helps us estimate and can make our calculations

quicker. Watch the videos and play the quiz: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zh8dmp3/articles/zpx2qty Remember if the number ends in a 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 you

round down and if it ends in a 5, 6 7, 8 or 9 you

round up. For example:

43 is closest to 40 as you round down as it ends in 3.

55 is closest to 60 as you round up as it ends in 5.

67 is closest to 70 as you round up as it ends in 7.

Refer to ‘help sheet 5’.

Numeracy: This week we are focussing on grouping

and multiplication. Choose a times table that you

would like to practise. Maybe it is the 2, 5 or 10

times-table or for a challenge the 3, 4 or 6 times-

table. Use a 100 square first and practise counting

up in your times table. For example, if you chose the

some fun this week can you complete an

Longstone. I have given you some to try below,

own!

L ockdown reflection (mind map, drawings,

poster, booklet). Reflect and share your

highlights from lockdown.

O ctopus – draw yourself as an animal and explain

why! I’ve chosen an octopus as I often think I

would need lots of arms to do lots of tasks at

once!

N umbers of me. Create some sums which

answers reveal something about you. For example,

my Age is 4 + 3. My shoe size is double 6.

ready to leave the house (wash, teeth, clothes,

Daily Cursive Handwriting Challenge:

Practise letters with the ‘e’ pattern: e, f and

each day. Draw it, write it, find it and make it.

Listening and Talking: Make a word

cloud with all the boost words you can

think of! I have used the correct word

boost colours for nouns: person, places or

things; verbs: doing words and adjectives:

describing words. How many different

boost words can you find in my example?

Create your own: https://wordart.com/

3s you would track: 0 3 6 9 12 15 18 21 24 27 30 33

36. You could use your fingers to track what table

you are on. Can you create a multiplication flower to

help you remember the times table? Have a go at the

multiplication wheels on ‘help sheet 6’.

Problem Solving: This week we are learning to

solve problems. Refer to ‘help sheet 7a and 7b’.

Remember to discuss how you got your answers with

someone at home.

shoes, practise for when we go back to school!).

How long did it take, can you beat your best time?

S chool. Design your dream school.

What would it look like from outside?

What rooms and facilities would it have

inside? What would the teacher be like?

T ower. What is the tallest free-standing tower

you can build? What materials worked best?

Newspapers? Cushions? Pencils? Can you measure

it?

O ur favourite memories. Can you write down

some of your favourite things about Primary 3, it

may be something to do with your friends, or

something you enjoyed in your learning. You could

create a memory jar.

N onsense races. Create your own silly races

– baby race (crawling), tip toe race,

big steps race, slowest wins race, balancing

races, pillow sack races.

What others can you think of and try?

E arn. I think you all deserve to earn an award

for doing so well at adjusting to lockdown and

home schooling. Reflect on lockdown. Decide what

you have done well during lockdown and write a

sentence explaining what thing you have done that

would deserve an award and why. Refer to ‘help

sheet 8’.

IDL/Science: We are learning about growing plants. Last week you were asked to identify the

main parts of a plant (roots, stem, leaves and flowers), watch this video again to remind you:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLhTgTwbYMI&t=94s

We are now going to think about what plants need to grow. Do you think they might need some of

the same things as us? Watch this video to find out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUBIQ1fTRzI

Can you grow a plant in your house or garden? Think about what you will you need? If you are lucky

enough to have seeds at home, then give it a go! Take a photo or draw a picture each week to

record any growth. If you don’t have any seeds (like me), but you have an apple, then maybe you

could try this; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3mbY-d2Zcg

Something fun:

• Decorate a plant pot for your seed (I like the ‘paint your name’ one): https://www.gardenbuildingsdirect.co.uk/blog/how-to-decorate-a-plant-pot/

Page 4: Longstone Primary Home Learning Grid - Primary 3A · – baby race (crawling), tip toe race, big steps race, slowest wins race, balancing races, pillow sack races. What others can

Remember just do what you can, when

you can. If you would like to share work you are proud of or have any questions, comments

or concerns please get in touch by emailing [email protected]

This week I have included ‘help sheets’ within the home learning grid. These

should provide you with ideas about how to structure and lay out the learning, you

are not required to print these out, but you may want to use these as a template

or resource to aid your child’s home learning.

Each day your child should aim to complete the daily challenges, as well as one Numeracy and one Literacy task. All the other

activities are optional, so once your child completes their Literacy and Numeracy task, they could then go on to choose one activity

from another subject area.
