Yup, we were located in the middle of the Utah Territory with the Oregon Territory to the north, New Mexico Territory to the south and that relatively large unorganized territory east of us. Out here in the middle of the western desert with few rights and little protection. Yet somehow, we were a significant part of history. The Overland Stagecoach Route, the Pony Express Trail, and the Transcontinental Telegraph all passed through or near Lehi during the peak of their use. A large portion of our citizens have a genetic tie to many of the original settlers. In fact, it is not uncommon for those raised in Utah Valley to discuss their ancestral connection to someone who sheltered inside the perimeter of the Lehi Fort wall. Yes, we have a history and it is time to celebrate! Open your calendar now and clear the last week of June because we have many exciting events scheduled for you and your family. Lehi Round- Up Week is quickly approaching and I officially invite you to participate. Many recognize our famous miniature parade and our Round-Up Rodeo preceded by the stock parade to be our feature events, and they are! But there is so much more. Events kick off on the 22nd with our 10K, 5K and Kid’s Mile run and then continue with our tennis tournament and princess/superhero party. It is all followed with the 2019 Miss Lehi Pageant. Highlighting the week will be the Picnic in the Park featuring Josh Gracin. Activities continue all week with the Arts in Park concert, the chalk art contest, Cowboy Classic Golf Tournament, our Family Western BBQ and as always, our outdoor movie. If you feel the aforementioned tournaments are not for you, enlist in the 3 on 3 basketball or horseshoe tournaments. For those who simply want to show- off their hard work, enter the art show, baby contest or the Animals Got Talent show, which will also include K9 demonstrations and adoptions! To be clear, the adoptions are for some of the dogs only, not for the babies. Sorry folks. Please watch for your mailer of all the events or check out the schedule on the Lehi City website. I look forward to seeing you the last week in June to celebrate our rich history! -Mayor Johnson 6/22 6/22 - 6/29 Round-Up Activities See page 2 for full calendar 7/4 Cannon Salutes 5 a.m. throughout Lehi 7/4 Independence Day Fireworks 10 p.m. @ Electric Park Miss Lehi Pageant 7 p.m. @ Lehi High School 6/11 Planning Commission 7 p.m. @ City Hall City Council 7 p.m. @ City Hall 6/13 Visit www.facebook.com/lehicity for a full list of upcoming programs and events.
