G4 volunteers act as the friendly face of recycling to the thousands of fans who attend FSU football games each year. All G4 hours qualify as service hours for the ServScript program. Approximately 20 to 40 volunteers including individuals and organizations are needed for each home game to assist fans. Participants are asked to arrive at the stadium 2.5 hours before the start of the game and stay for a little while after kickoff. Sign up today by emailing [email protected] with your name, contact information, and the dates you'd like to help out. This year's GGGG volunteers will be honored for their hard work with a special BBQ with President Barron during the spring semester. FAITH IN SERVICE A collaboration of FSU’s Spiritual Life Project and The Center for Leadership and Civic Education, the Inter-faith Service Reflection Lab is an opportunity for students from religious and non-religious spiritual traditions who are involved in community service to come together in reflection. The reflection lab will be an inclusive environment for students to explore the connection of spiritual foundations and community service, reflecting and sharing observations such as: personal motivations to serve, meaning and purpose found within service, and lessons learned from others with and to whom you serve. They are looking for students interested in participating in these conversations. Two reflection labs will be held during the fall semester. It is requested that there is a commitment to attend both, one in early October and a second in early December. If you are interested please send an email with your: a) name; b) email address; and c)area of service you are involved in to [email protected] by 5pm on September 26. CARNIVAL AT THE REZ The Carnival at the Rez will have lots of family-friendly activities, especially for children. There will be live music, magic, FSU Circus performers, sports with FSU athletes, face painting, hot dogs, popcorn, snow cones, soft drinks, ice cream, and the Rez activities (swimming, ping pong, kayaking, canoeing, beach volleyball). Transportation will be provided for graduate students and their families who live in Alumni Village. All FSU graduate students and their families are invited to the Carnival at the Rez, October 4, 2011. This will be a time to network with other graduate students, especially those with children who are learning how to balance parenting and academics. GARNET & GOLD SCHOLAR SOCIETY DROP-IN ADVISING The Garnet and Gold Scholar Society facilitates involvement and recognizes engaged, well-rounded student who excel within and beyond the classroom in the areas of Leadership, Internship, Service, International, and Research. A student who has met the criteria in three of the five areas and writes an approved Synthesis Reflection is eligible for consideration. If you think you qualify to be a Garnet and Gold Scholar Society member, you can check out the website, and/or come in for advising. Drop-in advising will be held in DSC 2113 every Tuesday from 10am-12pm and every Wednesday from 1pm-3pm. There will also be an information session Tuesday, September 27 at 4pm in DSC 1006. LIGHTHOUSE WILL BE DINING IN THE DARK IN OCT. The Lighthouse of the Big Bend is a nonprofit agency dedicated to guiding people through vision loss. Our mission is to assist people with vision loss in their pursuit of independence. Free services are provided on an outreach (one on one) or group basis and are provided without charge, without regard to individual or family income level, race, creed, age, disability or national origin. Each year, the Lighthouse holds the Paula Bailey Dining in the Dark benefit - and tickets are on sale now for the October 2nd benefit! Just go to the Network for Good page to donate by major credit card or PayPal. Make sure under “designation” you type Dining in the Dark and they will mail you your tickets. WORK ONE-ON-ONE WITH A CHILD WITH AUTISM If you are interested in working with a child with autism in hopes of helping him obtain his highest potential, Nathaniel could use your help. Learn basic skills for working with children with special needs, even if you do not have prior experience, only the willingness to learn through one-on-one training. VETERAN EVENTS NEEDS YOUR HELP ON VETERANS DAY Veteran Events in Tallahassee is looking for about thirty volunteers for this Veterans Day, November 11, at various times between 6am and 8pm. Volunteers are needed in a number of different capacities including, but not limited to, festival and parade set-up, manning drink stations, helping compile race results, passing out awards, helping with Aid station, and errand running. For more information, or if you or your group is interested in helping with these events, check out their website. FORT BRADEN SCHOOL CARNIVAL NEEDS VOLUNTEERS Fort Braden School is in need of volunteers to help with their annual school carnival on October 14. They need people from 2pm-6pm and 6pm-10pm. Volunteers would help serve food, set up and clean up, and operate booths (with assistance). You can come for one shift, or both. Their Volunteer Coordinator will be available throughout the evening to certify volunteer hours. A short background check will need to be completed prior to the night of the event. BECOME A CHALLENGE COURSE FACILITATOR Become a part of the FSU Challenge Team and sign-up for Facilitator Training! This 4-day workshop provides you with the skills and information to start your adventure as a Challenge Course Facilitator. GOOD NEWS OUTREACH IS LOOKING FOR HELP Good News Outreach, Inc. is an organization that has served the Tallahassee community for more than twenty years through their mission to feed the hungry and provide shelter for the homeless. This year they are focused on serving school aged children who are residents of their campus for single parents and children. They are looking for assistance in whatever way individuals can contribute. For more information, check out their website. RUN WITH THE RED CROSS Volunteers are needed to assist with 4th Annual Robin Lotane Memorial Hurricane Run with the American Red Cross. The run helps raise money for local disaster victims. Individuals or groups welcomed. The Red Cross needs assistance with set up, event activity and break down. BIG BROTHER BIG SISTER APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE

Want to have the opportunity to help shape a child’s future for the better by empowering them to achieve? Want to have a lot of fun while you do so? Big Brother, Big Sister is looking for volunteers interested in being Big Brothers, Big Sisters, or even volunteering in another way. To find out more, check out their website. HANDS OF HOPE AND THE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE FSU Hands of Hope Recognized Student Organization that prides itself in organizing consistent volunteering projects that are mainly aimed to provide assistance to people with disabilities. They are officially affiliated with the College of Medicine at Florida State University and Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and have a variety of volunteering opportunities open within these and many other institutions that further reinforce our mission to integrate students with and without disabilities. Their upcoming meeting dates will be held at the FSU College of Medicine in Room 1302 at 7pm, every other Monday starting on September 26 through November 21. HELP OUT WITH GIRL SCOUTS The Girl Scouts in Tallahassee are looking for a female volunteer who has a desire to work with 4th grade girls in Girl Scouting. ATTENTION STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS: MAKE A DIFFERENCE. ADOPT AN AGENCY! Are you looking for a place to concentrate your efforts to make a positive difference in the local community? If you are seeking a community engagement opportunity and a partnership with a nonprofit agency, the Center for Leadership & Civic Education may have a perfect match for you. Adopting an agency gives student groups the opportunity to provide consistent, meaningful, on-going service and support to one nonprofit agency, while also giving the agency a more stable pool of volunteers. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR BIKE MS PGA TOUR

Volunteers are needed on October 1st and 2nd to help with Cycle to the Shore 2011 a Bike MS PGA Tour. Cyclists ride and raise funds to benefit all who live with Multiple Sclerosis locally

and nationally, and also to provide support in research for a cure. Volunteers are also a crucial part of this event helping in all locations and every step of the way. As such, volunteers are needed throughout this event in St. Augustine, Daytona Beach and all along the event route for multiple volunteer assignments. LVLC IS LOOKING FOR MATH TUTORS The Literacy Volunteers of Leon County (LVLC) are looking for someone to help tutor an adult from another country in preparation for the math portion of the GED. CAMP BOGGY CREEK IS LOOKING FOR GROUPS TO HELP Camp Boggy Creek (CBC) is a year round camp serving seriously ill children throughout Florida. They offer week-long summer sessions for the children and family retreat weekends for the whole family. There is no charge to come to Camp so they rely on the generous support of individuals, corporations, foundations and healthcare partners. They are currently signing up volunteers for one or more of these weekends and still have spots open for groups and individuals (especially lifeguards) at this time. Tallahassee Senior Center and Premier Health & Fitness Center are offering health screenings and health risk assessments to seniors at community centers on Tallahassee’s south side. Volunteers are needed to assist participants with completing the online health risk assessment. Mature, responsible and punctual students with great people skill are who they are seeking.

4-H NEEDS VOLUNTEERS 4-H needs volunteers for Tuesday, November 1 and Saturday, November 12 for the 4-H Day at the North Florida Fair). They need volunteers to assist with judging the following categories: Poetry, a Talent Show, Agricultural Judging, and Agricultural Judging Scoring. For Poetry, they need one judge (on Tuesday, November 1 beginning at 9:45am). For the Talent Show they need 2 judges on November, 12 beginning at 11:30am. For the Agricultural Judging (this judging event starts at 9:30am for volunteer orientation) they need at least 15 volunteers to serve as group leaders. Volunteers will take students around to each station after they have evaluated the Agricultural grains and animals. For the Agricultural Judging Scoring, the volunteers will assist with scoring the cards after the Agriculture Judging event is over. PHONE BANK VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Phone bank volunteers are needed for WFSU-FM’s 2011 Fall Membership Drive with the following desired skills: Enthusiasm, energy and a love for WFSU/Public Broadcasting, the ability to use the phone and a simple web form (training provided). This will be taking place Wednesday, October 12- Friday, October 21. Please contact Pheobee Saye (below) for a schedule of shifts. Phone shifts are 2 to 4 hours long and require 4 to 8 phone bank volunteers. Snacks and training are provided for volunteers. Many organizations prefer to take responsibility for an entire phone bank during a shift. INTERNSHIPS & JOB OPPORTUNITIES APALACHEE RIDGE TECH WORK STUDY POSITION The Apalachee Ridge Technology Learning Center is currently interviewing for an FSU work study position. If you have been approved for a work study position and have an interest in community building this may be the job for you. The Apalachee Ridge center engages in community organizing, mentoring, tutoring and closing the digital divide. The work study student will operate as the education coordinator who is responsible for managing tutoring operations for the benefit of their students. Utilizing an extensive support system, the EC will communicate with school administrators, students and volunteers to ensure they are helping the students at the center. INTERN WITH THE AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION This student position is assigned to an office of the American Lung Association of the Southeast, Inc. It is designed to enhance the educational experience of the student intern. As an intern, you would be responsible for assisting the assigned supervisor in implementing program and/or fund raising goals. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with event planning, promotions, editing, writing, donor communications, program implementation, volunteer recruitment and management, data base management and other duties to support the work of the American Lung Association. AMERICA’S SECOND HARVEST COMMUNITY AMBASSADOR POSITION AVAILABLE Help support and raise awareness of Second Harvest’s mission to battle hunger in the Tallahassee area by serving as a Community Ambassador! Develop a “Faces of Hunger” campaign, engage the student body and faculty to participate in volunteering opportunities and so much more! FSU STUDENT GOVERNMENT POSITIONS AVAILABLE The FSU Student Government Association (SGA) has two involvement opportunities available. The first is for a Director in its Office of Servant Leadership (OSL). OSL is an office in the Executive Branch of the Student Government Association. This is a paid position with an office in the union and oversees all Service Organizations and service programs on campus. This office works closely with The Center for Leadership and Civic Education and provides a certification for RSOs that are service based so that they may receive funding for their efforts. The election supervisor position is also open for applications. This individual is responsible for overseeing the fall and spring SGA elections. The supervisor must understand the election code of SGA statutes and coordinate the Strozier library polling station. The supervisor will chair the spring presidential debate and work to protect candidates from campaign violations. The supervisor has an office in the union and works to promote student engagement in SGA elections. FLORIDA LEARN & SERVE: PART-TIME INTERN NEEDED Florida Learn and Serve (FL&S) currently looking for volunteer student interns to work on a part-time basis Fall of 2011.
