LEARN MORE ABOUT GARNET AND GOLD GOES GREEN The Garnet & Gold Goes Green recycling program provides fans the opportunity to recycle their beverage containers with the intention of decreasing the large amounts of waste and litter surrounding Doak Campbell stadium. G4 volunteers act as the friendly face of recycling to the thousands of fans who attend FSU football games each year. All G4 hours qualify as service hours for the ServScript program. Approximately 20 to 40 volunteers including individuals and organizations are needed for each home game to assist fans. Participants are asked to arrive at the stadium 2.5 hours before the start of the game and stay for a little while after kickoff. Sign up today by emailing [email protected] with your name, contact information, and the dates you'd like to help out. This year's GGGG volunteers will be honored for their hard work with a special BBQ with President Barron during the spring semester. WORK WITH THE YOUTH THROUGH CAMP ADVENTURE Camp Adventure Youth Services is a program that provides an extraordinary opportunity for university and college-age students to participate in a worthwhile and valuable service-learning experience. Camp Adventure contracts with military instillations worldwide to provide summer camp programs as well as child development and aquatics programs. A few Benefits of participating include having a worthwhile experience with children and youth, travel & cultural experience, 12 hours of university credit, a living stipend, great resume builder and a lot of FUN!! ENGLISH SPEAKERS NEEDED TO TUTOR OTHER LANGUAGES If you would like to help newcomers develop their English skills, become a member of a great organization, meet people from around the world, and learn new skills from an accredited non-profit educational organization, then this is the workshop for you. Become a volunteer tutor. This workshop will be held on Saturday, November 19 from 1 to 5pm in the Literacy Classroom on the 3rd floor of the Collins Main Library at 200 W. Park Avenue. SOUTHEASTERN COMM. BLOOD CENTR NEEDS RSO’S The Southeastern Community Blood Center is looking for Registered Campus Organizations to sponsor blood drives throughout the semester. Can your RSO will provide the volunteer power and fun factor required to make each drive run smoothly? Can they man the desk with other volunteers and encourage students to donate? Interested in creating a fun and friendly environment surrounding the bloodmobiles? Then this is for you! In return, the SCBC will provide flyers for the drive with your RSO's logo or name on them, and you will also be able to set up a table right outside the bloodmobile where you can chat up and spread the news about your group! This is a great way to reach a diverse group of people while having a great time with your RSO. Also any volunteers are welcome, even if you are not with an RSO!

4-H NEEDS VOLUNTEERS FOR AGRICULTURAL JUDGING 4-H needs volunteers for Saturday November 12 for the 4-H Day at the North Florida Fair. Volunteers are needed volunteers to assist with judging the following categories: Agricultural Judging and Agricultural Judging Scoring. For the Agricultural Judging (this judging event starts at 9:30am for volunteer orientation) at least 15 volunteers are needed to serve as group leaders. Volunteers will take students around to each station after they have evaluated the agricultural grains and animals. For the Agricultural Judging Scoring, the volunteers will assist with scoring the cards after the Agriculture Judging event is over. STUDENT OFFERING SUPPORT NEEDS VOLUNTEERS Students Offering Support (SOS) is an international charitable organization that currently has more than 1000 volunteer student leaders. They are running social ventures on their campuses by helping their peers pass exams which raises money for development projects in Latin America, built by SOS volunteers on annual 2-week outreach trips. SOS volunteers work to coordinate and run SOS Exam-AID initiatives helping students get through exams. These are 3 hour Exam-prep group review sessions that lead students through the material covered on their upcoming exam. By charging a $10-$20 donation to attend an SOS Exam-AID, SOS chapters have been able to raise $1000-$100,000/chapter in one year! Each year, an SOS chapter works with one of our rural community partners in Latin America to fund, coordinate, and implement a sustainable development project, built by volunteers on two-week outreach trips at the end of each year providing them with an opportunity to see firsthand the impact their time can have. HANDS OF HOPE AND THE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE FSU Hands of Hope Recognized Student Organization that prides itself in organizing consistent volunteering projects that are mainly aimed to provide assistance to people with disabilities. They are officially affiliated with the College of Medicine at Florida State University and Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and have a variety of volunteering opportunities open within these and many other institutions that further reinforce our mission to integrate students with and without disabilities. Their upcoming meeting dates will be held at the FSU College of Medicine in Room 1302 at 7pm, every other Monday through November 21. LVLC IS LOOKING FOR MATH TUTORS The Literacy Volunteers of Leon County (LVLC) are looking for someone to help tutor an adult from another country in preparation for the math portion of the GED. CAMP BOGGY CREEK IS LOOKING FOR GROUPS TO HELP Camp Boggy Creek (CBC) is a year round camp serving seriously ill children throughout Florida. They offer week-long summer sessions for the children and family retreat weekends for the whole family. There is no charge to come to Camp so they rely on the generous

support of individuals, corporations, foundations and healthcare partners. They are currently signing up volunteers for one or more of these weekends and still have spots open for groups and individuals (especially lifeguards) at this time. SOCIAL SCIENCE SCHOLARS PROGRAM The Social Science Scholars Program builds upon the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy’s history of graduating men and women who have had distinguished careers in the private and public sectors. Social Science Scholars are chosen through a competitive process to participate in a unique, 3-unit leadership seminar during the spring semester of their junior year. The seminar prepares students for projects of their choosing, which are undertaken during the following summer and/or fall semester(s). During their senior year, each Social Science Scholar engages in one or more of the program activities. Each Social Science Scholar has access to an account of $5,000, which he or she can draw upon for approved program-related activities. TAKE THE WORLD LEADERSHIP SURVEY TODAY What do you think should be important to leaders? What do you think you need to know to succeed in your first after-college job? The Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) is currently conducting a World Leadership Survey for Students. They believe that students and the organizations they want to work for will be more successful if each has an accurate and up-to-date picture of students' views on important workplace issues. To create this picture, they need to hear from you about your personal experiences and your views of the workplace. The survey takes about 20 minutes, can be taken online. As a thank you, CCL is giving each respondent a choice of one of two free CCL Guidebooks (Learning from Life or Do You Need a Team?), available for download immediately after submitting the survey. Information provided by respondents is confidential, and you will receive reports on the results of the survey if you choose to include your e-mail address at the beginning of the survey. VETERAN EVENTS NEEDS YOUR HELP ON VETERANS DAY Veteran Events in Tallahassee is looking for about thirty volunteers for this Veterans Day, November 11, at various times between 6am and 8pm. Volunteers are needed in a number of different capacities including, but not limited to, festival and parade set-up, manning drink stations, helping compile race results, passing out awards, helping with Aid station, and errand running. HELP TALLAHASSEE SENIORS STAY HEALTHY Tallahassee Senior Center and Premier Health & Fitness Center are offering health screenings and health risk assessments to seniors at community centers on Tallahassee’s south side. Volunteers are needed to assist participants with completing the online health risk assessment. Mature, responsible and punctual

students with great people skill are who they are seeking. This project will be completed in September. GET INVOLVED WITH FLORIDA STATE CROP! The Florida State CROP (College Reach-Out Program) is looking for mentors who have tutoring experience in math (pre-algebra), science (chemistry/biology), and writing/reading. The mentors will report to one of two schools: East Gadsden High or West Gadsden High. Mentoring will take place between 2 and 5pm. Mentors will also assist students in college prep workshops, which includes helping students fill out college applications. The application can be found on their website. Selected applicants will receive a stipend for their participation in the program. Stipend awards may be up to $4,000, depending upon the location and duration of service. Examples of past projects have included working with people experiencing homelessness in Tallahassee, being a camp counselor for chronically ill children in California, working for a food bank in London, caring for HIV/AIDS patients in Spain, constructing a technology center in Rwanda, designing and constructing a chicken farm at an orphanage in Tanzania, and serving at an orphanage in India. Applications can be found on their website and are due November 28.

This organization is dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and conservation using the art of dance. INTERNSHIPS & JOB OPPORTUNITIES APALACHEE RIDGE TECH WORK STUDY POSITION The Apalachee Ridge Technology Learning Center is currently interviewing for an FSU work study position. If you have been approved for a work study position and have an interest in community building this may be the job for you. The Apalachee Ridge center engages in community organizing, mentoring, tutoring and closing the digital divide. The work study student will operate as the education coordinator who is responsible for managing tutoring operations for the benefit of their students. Utilizing an extensive support system, the EC will communicate with school administrators, students and volunteers to ensure they are helping the students at the

AMERICA’S SECOND HARVEST COMMUNITY AMBASSADOR POSITION AVAILABLE Help support and raise awareness of Second Harvest’s mission to battle hunger in the Tallahassee area by serving as a Community Ambassador! FSU STUDENT GOVERNMENT POSITIONS AVAILABLE The FSU Student Government Association (SGA) has two involvement opportunities available. The first is for a Director in its Office of Servant Leadership (OSL). OSL is an office in the Executive Branch of the Student Government Association. This is a paid position with an office in the union and oversees all Service Organizations and service programs on campus. This office works closely with The Center for Leadership and Civic Education and provides a certification for RSOs that are service based so that they may receive funding for their efforts. The election supervisor position is also open for applications. This individual is responsible for overseeing the fall and spring SGA elections. The supervisor must understand the election code of SGA statutes and coordinate the Strozier library polling station. The supervisor will chair the spring presidential debate and work to protect candidates from campaign violations. The supervisor has an office in the union and works to promote student engagement in SGA elections. FLORIDA LEARN & SERVE: PART-TIME INTERN NEEDED Florida Learn and Serve (FL&S) currently looking for volunteer student interns to work on a part-time basis Fall of 2011. FL&S interns will receive high-level and valuable on-the-job experience and can develop skills in various in-demand job functions including data processing, office administration, education policy research, evaluation and statistical analysis and basic grant-research and writing.
