The Center for Leadership and Civic Education continues to seek goal-oriented, self-motivated, service-minded students to facilitate the Community Outreach Program for the fall semester. Strong facilitators are critical to the success and growth of the Program. While the program is up and running, several of the projects are still needing co-facilitators. Ideally, they would like to have two facilitators for every project, in order to spread out the responsibilities and to insure the reliability of the projects. Take a look at the current Outreach Program schedule to see where the vacancies are. It is also possible to add projects to the schedule if you are interested in facilitating with a different agency. LEARN MORE ABOUT GARNET AND GOLD GOES GREEN The Garnet & Gold Goes Green recycling program provides fans the opportunity to recycle their beverage containers with the intention of decreasing the large amounts of waste and litter surrounding Doak Campbell stadium. G4 volunteers act as the friendly face of recycling to the thousands of fans who attend FSU football games each year. All G4 hours qualify as service hours for the ServScript program. Approximately 20 to 40 volunteers including individuals and organizations are needed for each home game to assist fans. Participants are asked to arrive at the stadium 2.5 hours before the start of the game and stay for a little while after kickoff. Sign up today by emailing [email protected] with your name, contact information, and the dates you'd like to help out. This year's GGGG volunteers will be honored for their hard work with a special BBQ with President Barron during the spring semester. SERVE THE COMMUNITY WITH ALTERNATIVE BREAKS The Florida State Alternative Breaks is looking for Site Leaders for spring break and weekend service trips. Florida State Alternative Breaks creates extended experiences for students to impact a community outside of Tallahassee through quality service trips. An alternative break is an opportunity for a diverse group of students to serve others while creating a new bond. Site Leaders are responsible for building community in their groups and are crucial in making a unforgettable experience for all of the participants involved. Applications are Due October 7 and can be found on their website. HEALTH IN THE CITY FUNDRAISER The Epilepsy Association, in partnership with Neighborhood Health Services, welcomes you to join us for our, “Health in the City” fundraiser. FORT BRADEN SCHOOL CARNIVAL NEEDS VOLUNTEERS Fort Braden School is in need of volunteers to help with their annual school carnival on October 14. They need people from 2pm-6pm and 6pm-10pm. Volunteers would help serve food, set up and clean up, and operate booths (with assistance). You can come for one shift, or both. Their Volunteer Coordinator will be available throughout the evening to certify volunteer hours. A short background check will need to be completed prior to the night of the event. BECOME AN FSAB SITE LEADER Do you love service and travel? Are you looking for exciting new ways to become a leader? Apply to be a Florida State Alternative Break (FSAB) Site Leader! Florida State Alternative Break creates opportunities for college students to travel to and serve in diverse communities across the country and abroad during weekend, spring, or summer breaks. It seeks to inspire students to become lifelong Active Citizens who, through serve, place their communities as a priority in their lives. Each trip has two Site Leaders to facilitate the alternative break experience. These students work in partnership to maintain host site communications, coordinate various aspects of trip logistics, develop strong group dynamics, and facilitate quality experiences for participants. Site leader applications are due to The Center for Leadership and Civic Education in the Dunlap Success Center (across from Denny's) by NOON on Monday, October 10. BOYS & GIRLS CLUB FALL FESTIVAL The Greg McCray Boys & Girls Club will be hosting a Fall Festival on Friday, October 28 from 3 to 7pm. This 4-day workshop provides you with the skills and information to start your adventure as a Challenge Course Facilitator. GOOD NEWS OUTREACH IS LOOKING FOR HELP Good News Outreach, Inc. is an organization that has served the Tallahassee community for more than twenty years through their mission to feed the hungry and provide shelter for the homeless. This year they are focused on serving school aged children who are residents of their campus for single parents and children. They are looking for assistance in whatever way individuals can contribute. For more

BLOOD CENTR NEEDS RSO’S The Southeastern Community Blood Center is looking for Registered Campus Organizations to sponsor blood drives throughout the semester. Can your RSO will provide the volunteer power and fun factor required to make each drive run smoothly? Can they man the desk with other volunteers and encourage students to donate? Interested in creating a fun and friendly environment surrounding the bloodmobiles? Then this is for you! In return, the SCBC will provide flyers for the drive with your RSO's logo or name on them, and you will also be able to set up a table right outside the bloodmobile where you can chat up and spread the news about your group! This is a great way to reach a diverse group of people while having a great time with your RSO. If you have any questions or would like to see dates for drives, please do not hesitate to email Zachary Spoerl at [email protected]. Also any volunteers are welcome, even if you are not with an RSO! STUDENT OFFERING SUPPORT NEEDS VOLUNTEERS Students Offering Support (SOS) is an international charitable organization that currently has more than 1000 volunteer student leaders. They are running social ventures on their campuses by helping their peers pass exams which raises money for development projects in Latin America, built by SOS volunteers on annual 2-week outreach trips. SOS volunteers work to coordinate and run SOS Exam-AID initiatives helping students get through exams. These are 3 hour Exam-prep group review sessions that lead students through the material covered on their upcoming exam. By charging a $10-$20 donation to attend an SOS Exam-AID, SOS chapters have been able to raise $1000-$100,000/chapter in one year! Each year, an SOS chapter works with one of our rural community partners in Latin America to fund, coordinate, and implement a sustainable development project, built by volunteers on two-week outreach trips at the end of each year providing them with an opportunity to see firsthand the impact their time can have. HANDS OF HOPE AND THE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE FSU Hands of Hope Recognized Student Organization that prides itself in organizing consistent volunteering projects that are mainly aimed to provide assistance to people with disabilities. They are officially affiliated with the College of

Medicine at Florida State University and Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and have a variety of volunteering opportunities open within these and many other institutions that further reinforce our mission to integrate students with and without disabilities. Their upcoming meeting dates will be held at the FSU College of Medicine in Room 1302 at 7pm, every other Monday through November 21. LVLC IS LOOKING FOR MATH TUTORS The Literacy Volunteers of Leon County (LVLC) are looking for someone to help tutor an adult from another country in preparation for the math portion of the GED. CAMP BOGGY CREEK IS LOOKING FOR GROUPS TO HELP Camp Boggy Creek (CBC) is a year round camp serving seriously ill children throughout Florida. They offer week-long summer sessions for the children and family retreat weekends for the whole family. There is no charge to come to Camp so they rely on the generous support of individuals, corporations, foundations and healthcare partners. They are currently signing up volunteers for one or more of these weekends and still have spots open for groups and individuals (especially lifeguards) at this time. Tallahassee Senior Center and Premier Health & Fitness Center are offering health screenings and health risk assessments to seniors at community centers on Tallahassee’s south side. Volunteers are needed to assist participants with completing the online health risk assessment. Mature, responsible and punctual students with great people skill are who they are

seeking. This project will be completed in September. Those interested should contact David Wheeler, Wellness & Health Recovery Coordinator, Premier Health & Fitness Center, Tallahassee, FL, at (850) 431-4835 or [email protected]. 4-H NEEDS VOLUNTEERS 4-H needs volunteers for Tuesday, November 1 and Saturday, November 12 for the 4-H Day at the North Florida Fair). They need volunteers to assist with judging the following categories: Poetry, a Talent Show, Agricultural Judging, and Agricultural Judging Scoring. For Poetry, they need one judge (on Tuesday, November 1 beginning at 9:45am). For the Talent Show they need 2 judges on November 12 beginning at 11:30am. For the Agricultural Judging (this judging event starts at 9:30am for volunteer orientation) they need at least 15 volunteers to serve as group leaders. Volunteers will take students around to each station after they have evaluated the Agricultural grains and animals. For the Agricultural Judging Scoring, the volunteers will assist with scoring the cards after the Agriculture Judging event is over. VOLUNTEER FOR GILCHRIST OLYMPICS Gilchrist Elementary will be having their annual Olympics on October 6 and 7. Volunteers will be needed between the times of 8:45am to 2:00pm on both days for various shifts. Responsibilities include demonstrating activities and keeping the students in an orderly rotation, set up of activities, break down of activities. Also, they will be having their annual Walk a Thon from October 10 to October 14. Volunteers will be needed for various shifts throughout the week from 8:45am to 2:15pm. Responsibilities include marking laps completed, cheering families on, cashier for any day of registrations, water station, serving food, clean up/break down. PHONE BANK VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Phone bank volunteers are needed for WFSU-FM’s 2011 Fall Membership Drive with the following desired skills: Enthusiasm, energy and a love for WFSU/Public Broadcasting, the ability to use the phone and a simple web form (training provided). This will be taking place Wednesday, October 12- Friday, October 21. Please contact Pheobee Saye (below) for a schedule of shifts. Phone shifts are 2 to 4 hours long and require 4 to 8 phone bank volunteers. Snacks and training are

provided for volunteers. Many organizations prefer to take responsibility for an entire phone bank during a shift. MATH TUTOR NEEDED The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend not only serves our youth, but adults as well. INTERNSHIPS & JOB OPPORTUNITIES APALACHEE RIDGE TECH WORK STUDY POSITION The Apalachee Ridge Technology Learning Center is currently interviewing for an FSU work study position. If you have been approved for a work study position and have an interest in community building this may be the job for you. The Apalachee Ridge center engages in community organizing, mentoring, tutoring and closing the digital divide. The work study student will operate as the education coordinator who is responsible for managing tutoring operations for the benefit of their students. Utilizing an extensive support system, the EC will communicate with school administrators, students and volunteers to ensure they are helping the students at the center. FSU STUDENT GOVERNMENT POSITIONS AVAILABLE The FSU Student Government Association (SGA) has two involvement opportunities available. The first is for a Director in its Office of Servant Leadership (OSL). OSL is an office in the Executive Branch of the Student Government Association. This is a paid position with an office in the union and oversees all Service Organizations and service programs on campus. This office works closely with The Center for Leadership and Civic Education and provides a certification for RSOs that are service based so that they may receive funding for their efforts. The election supervisor position is also open for applications. This individual is responsible for overseeing the fall and spring SGA elections. The supervisor must understand the election code of SGA statutes and coordinate the Strozier library polling station. The supervisor will chair the spring presidential debate and work to protect candidates from campaign violations. The supervisor has an office in the union and works to promote student engagement in SGA elections.
