As we gear up for another exciting summer season, we thank you for all your continued support of the Dyer Parks and Recreation Department. This summer we once again have many fulfilling recreational offerings for all ages. Our always popular youth summer camps at Elmer Miller Park are back with a variety of great summer activities. New this summer, is our inaugural Dyer Community Market as we have combined our Tuesday summer concert series with a new Dyer Community Market. In the parks, we have recently completed park improvement projects at Green Meadows and Sheffield Estates Parks that include pour in place surfacing. Additionally, we are finishing up the Hearthstone Park parking lot project this

summer. This year keep your eye out at Central Park for exciting new construction this summer. Construction is planned for the north end of Central Park consisting of a new Fire Station #2, north parking lot, a new 4th ball field and connecting walking paths are scheduled to be completed this year. This is just the start for Central Park, as further development is being planned at our Park Board meetings. Additional upcoming park improvement projects under discussion are Autumn Chase, Cherry Hill and Pheasant Hills Parks. Our Park Board meetings are the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. We welcome everyone to attend to share your ideas. Thank you again for your continued support and remember to take time for recreation. Have a wonderful summer.

PARK RULES

Living Tree & Park Bench MemorialsHelp improve the quality of life and the environment by having a tree planted in one of your Dyer Parks to remember or honor a person or organization. A minimum donation of $500 will purchase a tree, plaque, and a take home plaque. You may designate the park but Dyer Parks & Recreation will determine the exact location. Trees are planted each fall.

Park Bench Memorials are also available. For a donation of $850 we will install a park bench with a plaque on the seat back of the bench in a park of your choice. Exact locations will be determined by staff but suggestions are welcome. For more information on either program contact Dyer Parks & Recreation at (219) 865-2505.

The Town of Dyer has installed a

Thor Guard Lightning Prediction and Warning System.

10 satellites have been stationed at the following locations:

Main Satellites: Plum Creek Center, Dyer Fire Department Station 2Remote Satellite: Autumn Chase Park, Sandy Ridge Water Tower, Northgate Park, Heritage Estates Park, Eberly Park, Hearthstone Park, Mallard Cove Water Tower, Dyer Public Works

These sites were chosen to give proper coverage throughout Dyer. The Thor Guard System predicts

lightning and constantly monitors the local environment and focuses on predicting whether or not there is enough

energy change to create a lightning strike in our area.

Once lightning is predicted, the main satellite will send a signal to the remote satellite and you will hear a 15

second horn blast. This signals that lightning is coming to the area. At that time, everyone should seek shelter and

all outdoor activities should stop. A strobe light will begin to flash and remain flashing until safe conditions return.

Once lightning is cleared from the area, you will hear three 5 second horn blast signaling all is safe and outdoor

activities can resume.

The Thor Guard System will be active between the hours of 10am-8pm Monday – Friday and 9am-8pm on Saturdays & Sundays, roughly March-October. For more information about the Thor Guard Lightning Prediction and Warning System please visit www.thorguard.com

Parkour is widely accepted as a method of training for the safest, quickest, and most efficient routing from one point to another. Participants will train in order to be as fluid, functional and liberated as possible in physical movement and to overcome physical obstacles. Our program will focus on specific elements of obstacle course training. Our younger classes are developed to safely get children moving and exploring the very new world around them, to inherently build confidence in

each step and define their most formative years with a strong base of control. Our classes will consist of two major components: conditioning and drilling which include climbing, jumping, and vaulting while maintaining a fun and challenging atmosphere.
