About Learning from the Street Learning from the Street celebrates street art from all over the globe, offering a contemporary look at how street art and urban art are changing the way we view the world around us. The works of street artists that we profile on our website are proof that artistic inspiration can come from just about anywhere in an urban environment – from the walls of abandoned buildings to found objects on the street itself. In our search for the best, most creative examples of street art and urban art, Learning from the Street keeps in mind that art can take many different forms. We recognize that genres and styles continually change, evolve and transform. As a result, we pay attention to the unique and highly original contributions to this expanding artistic genre, such as stencil art and calligraffiti. Learning from the Street is about more than just posting photos of the work of street artists, though. In our fast-growing community on Facebook, we encourage street art enthusiasts from around the world to share their commentary with other artists and to connect via social media. Whether you are in Europe, Asia, North America or South America, there are tight-knit communities of creators and innovators who enjoy viewing the art of their peers from around the globe. Our goal is to celebrate the global nature of street art, in all of its various forms, whether it’s a giant Salvador Dali painted on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art or discarded tree trunks and branches transformed into awe- inspiring sculptures in South Korea. Originality, creativity and artistic vision are important to us. Recently, for example, we’ve profiled the new works of Barcelona-based street artist Francisco de Pajaro (a.k.a. “Art is Trash”), who is best known for repurposing pieces of found garbage into elaborate, monster-themed artistic installations using nothing more than paint and tape. His creations, which have been found all over Europe as well as in New York City and Chicago in the United States, challenge us to re-think the environment around us and question our impact on urban spaces. We’ve also profiled the street art of another Barcelona-based artist, Caesar Baetulo (a.k.a. SM 172), who is known for his remarkable stencil art creations, as well as Barcelona-based street artist Mugraff, who specializes in “calligraffiti” creations that blend the best elements of calligraphy and graffiti into visual masterpieces. Follow along with us as we show how street art is flourishing all over the world beyond just Barcelona. We’ll take you inside new street art galleries, introduce
