A unique after school program for boys and girls full of adventure and excitement.

Tudor House is proud to be launching a revolutionary new program focused on celebrating childhood called Learning for Life - an after school care program like no other.

Learning for Life offers a broad range of courses to boys and girls that extend the important concept of holistic education through adventure, play and learning new life skills. Each term-long course has a primary age learning focus and is led by specialist staff. This is a big vision to enable our children to unplug and reconnect face-to-face not via the interface. The age to learn these ‘habits of mind’ are in the important and influential primary school years.

Learning for Life has been designed to empower and engage children by providing diverse learning opportunities that include the key aspects of learning outlined in the Australian Government Framework for School Age Care. We are looking to share our unique school including 70 hectares of Australian country heritage with students who share the same values, and a thirst for learning through adventures.

OUTLINE OF COURSES

Please note: not all of these courses are available every term. Prep: Supervised homework time with assistance available as required. Gets homework out of the way before home time and reinforces good personal study habits. Vegie Gardening: Do you have a green thumb? Working with local gardener, Lucy Turner, learn about the food value of different plants, propagation, crop rotation, pest control, organic fertilising and more. The fruits of your labours will of course be fed into our cooking module! Photography: Tell stories using pictures. Start by making a pinhole camera, a makeshift darkroom and developing a negative/positive image, and progress to a thorough understanding of how to use your digital camera, culminating in a photographic story-telling project. Run by professional photographer Sahlan Hayes. Fencing (touché): With the expertise of Monsieur Justin Francois Crebert, your child will be trained in the traditional art of fencing. Learn poise, concentration and etiquette. Rocket Club: Making Maths fun! Learn data gathering and analysis, understand the basic principles of aerodynamics by building and firing rockets, measuring heights and distance of flight paths by making pre-flight adjustments. 1 2 3 lift off! Science Experiments: This engaging program will explore hands-on science experiments which make learning fun. The children will have all resources provided and will be led by a qualified and experience Science teacher. Our science lessons give more pop than fizz! Library/Reading: This opportunity opens up our new library, experienced and specialised library staff, and software programs for children to be supported in independent reading. After a busy day, let your child curl up and enjoy a relaxing read, information session, or audio book in air-conditioned comfort. Kinesiology (K-2): Back to school brain training! The mind and body are incredibly interconnected and kinesiology can help activate the brain's full potential. Turn on the eyes, tune in the ears, improve handwriting, maths and reading, calm down and deal with stress effectively. Kids will be left feeling balanced, grounded and more energized. Try it and see the difference! Mandarin: Learn to speak, read and write Mandarin, and develop an understanding of Chinese culture by learning about daily life in modern China – including family roles, food, key traditions and beliefs, leisure activities, art, music and dance. Sports Skills Development: Not sure which sport you love best yet? Try them all! Build those gross motor skills by learning how to run, jump, dodge and weave, strike a ball, throw and catch, and turn cartwheels across the floor…then test those skills in games. Football Skills Clinic: For the aspiring Ronaldinho or Messi. Get technical skills development from a professional coaching clinic, including first touch, running with the ball, passing, striking and 1 versus 1. Cricket Clinic: Prefer the baggy green? Our technical skills development will focus on improving individual skills, while at the same time having fun and gaining maximum enjoyment from the game. And our coach holds a Level 2 Coaching Accreditation Certificate – howzat??!! Martial Arts: "Patience young Grasshopper..." Try age-appropriate judo, wrestling and boxing in a safe and encouraging environment. Learn self defence skills and how to deal with other kids at school, develop personal discipline and confidence, while getting active and having fun. CO2 Racing: Use your fine motor skills to build a model-racing car powered by a CO2 cylinder. Compete in races and use observation to refine your design and improve performance. Model Club: Get creative, organised and develop fine motor skills, all at the same time. In this module you will plan, assemble and paint a model of your choice using a kitset. Or develop a balsa wood sailing board – then sail it across our dam in a model regatta. Woodwork: Kids love to build and make things. In our fully equipped workshop they will learn to follow plans, heed instructions, and work tough to ensure quality and pride in their work.

Visual Arts: Inspire your potential Picasso. We offer a balanced art and design program with time working from observation, imagination and inspiration, using a variety of resources and our specialist facilities. Ceramics: “Did you make this?” Develop a masterpiece at your own pace, and learn a variety of ceramics and pottery techniques including wheel throwing, hand modeling, painting and glazing in our specialist facilities that include a kiln. Outdoor Education: In our wild open spaces, commune with nature, learn bush craft skills, archery, outdoor cooking and compete in team challenges. Eat your heart out, Bear Grylls! Cooking: Masterclass for aspiring chefs! Learn about healthy foods while enjoying hands-on cooking activities. Cooperate and share, measure and count to reinforce mathematical concepts, taste and smell for sensory learning, safety concepts are developed through food hygiene habits, and hand and eye coordination increases motor skill development. Nature-Inspired Craft: Think sculpture by the tree! Develop a keen sense of environmental awareness and the beauty of the natural world. Use natural resources to create artistic or meaningful shapes, either solo or co-operatively. Free play for older children: give your children the opportunity to enjoy the freedom of Tudor House’s extensive grounds and facilities with unstructured down-time. Kids can play safely as kids. Feel at ease knowing our grounds will be supervised by trained staff, but this is an opportunity for children to enjoy childhood without adult controls or directions (like we had as kids). Free play for Youngsters (K-2): Children need break-times. Our qualified staff will tailor a special free-play program for younger children, providing a multitude of activities to develop freedom of expression. The program will include Painting, dough work, Lego, Creating, Dress ups, Water play, Threading, Percussion, Home corner, Cars and Trains, as well as a youngster specific Homework Corner. French: Bonjour! Learn to speak the lyrical language of France with all kinds of fun activities like songs, games, food and stories - while immersed in the culture and traditions of this romantic land. Water Polo: Do you want your child to attend the local water polo competition but can’t find the time to manage the car pool? Give your child the opportunity to register and we’ll place them in a team, transport them to the pool, coach and manage, and supervise pool-side. Parents can collect from the pool or the school afterwards. Archery: Hitting a bulls-eye is more exciting with a bow and arrow! Especially when the opportunity is provided on our extensive Tudor House fields. We’ll provide all resources and train your child in archery skills, having them learn safety, handling, aiming and release. Gardening (horticulture): At Tudor we see gardening as more than just vegetables. With our qualified horticulturalist, this opportunity allows children to propagate, plant and conserve. Plant a tree today – and see it blossom! Learn more about conservation by helping us plant a forest! Band: Do you have a musical instrument, a passion to practise but need a band to perform in? This could be your calling. Join up to our band program and we will provide music and conducting with professional musicians. Environmental Science: Allow your child to learn more about conservation, with a focus on planting out a native forest area. Tudor House has its own special conservation areas, and this program would allow children to explore and learn out of the classroom, guided by experienced adults.

Board Games: Play traditional games like Monopoly, Scrabble, card games, Squatter and Checkers in groups of 4-8 players. Understand game play, body language and learn how to develop strategies to win games. All useful in the adult world too! These are just some of the opportunities! Every term, new programs will be implemented and our focus is on giving our children a special adventure, exploring opportunities that challenge, excite and engage.

STRUCTURE - Children will assemble in Memorial Hall.

- There will be two one-hour blocks of time. Some courses will be for the full two hours; some are only one hour in duration.

- Maximum 15 to 20 students depending on course – those first in will have preference. Any child who misses an opportunity will be able to select other opportunities and popular courses will be repeated.

- Courses will be supervised by qualified teachers or specialists in a field.

- A nutritious afternoon tea will be provided including home-baked snacks and fruit

- Children will re-assemble in Memorial Hall for collection at 6:00pm. FEES

EXTERNAL STUDENTS Tudor House is proud of our high standards of behaviour and discipline underpinned by our core values of respect, responsibility and relationships. We will expect the same high standards of all the students participating in Learning for Life. We are looking to share our school with students who share the same values, and a thirst for learning through adventures. TRANSPORT CONNECTIONS We are currently in discussion with Berrima Buslines to coordinate a direct bus connection collecting students from local schools and arriving at Tudor by 3:45pm. This also means the bus departing Tudor will now be leaving at 3:50pm not 4:15pm.

Learning for Life Electives

TERMS AND CONDITIONS 1. Full fees must be paid prior to the commencement of each Term. Activity details will not be

confirmed unless full payment has been received. 2. Services: Tudor House Learning for Life reserves the right to change details of its activities and services,

including facilities and dates, where circumstances beyond the program’s organiser’s control necessitate such changes or where the number of enrolments is not enough to operate a course viably.

3. Tudor House will not be liable in the event that any service contracted to be supplied by Tudor House

becomes impossible to supply for any reason or any cause outside the control of Tudor House. You should arrange appropriate insurance for any personal possessions, particularly of any significant value, as Tudor House will not accept responsibility for any loss or theft of personal possessions, whilst your child is attending Learning for Life.

4. Tudor House reserves the right to withdraw from Learning for Life activities any child whose conduct is

unsatisfactory at the discretion of the Learning for Life Coordinator. Tudor House defines ‘unsatisfactory behaviour’ to mean behaviour including continual disruptive behaviour, bullying, physical or verbal abuse towards staff and fellow attendees, vandalism and theft. No fees will be refunded in such cases.

5. Parents or guardians, where applicable, consent to their child’s appropriate photo, quotes and details of

achievements being used for promotional purposes (printed and online). 6. Any personal information provided to Tudor House shall be used in accordance with the Privacy Legislation,

the School’s Privacy Policy and the Standard Collection Notice displayed on the Tudor House website www.tudorhouse.nsw.edu.au.

7. Each child registered in the Learning for Life Program will be provided with a Medical Information

Form, which must be completed and given to the Learning for Life Co-ordinator prior to the child starting the Program.
