There are 5 vowels in the English language. They are

a, e, i, o, u.

A vowel sound is made with an open mouth. Sometimes

the letter ‘y’ can function as a vowel. Every syllable in

a word has a vowel or a vowel sound. A letter that is

not a vowel is called a consonant.
