Dear Parents/Guardians of the Before and After School Extended Learning ProgramCommunity,

As you rnay know, the Before and After School Extended Learning Program (BASELP), is aspecial revenue funded program that is dependent upon fees collected from participants.The school system does not subsidize the budget for this program. Fees for this programhave not gone up for at least five years. At the January 9, 2014 Board of Education meeting,a rate increase was approved for BASELP. In order for the program to continue operating ina reasonable and responsible manner, tuition and registration increases will go into effectbeginning Fall 2015. The new fees are outlined in the attached bulletin. A fee paymentschedule is also attached.

PARENT INFORMATION BULLETIN(Increase in Tuition and Registration Fee)

Tile Before and After School Extended Learning Program (BASELP) is a fee-based program.The program serves tile school community by offering licensed, high quality, school-ageextended learning experiences, The program offers developmentally appropriate activities ina wholesome and safe environment for students Grades 14-6. The Prince George’s CountyPublic Sctlools BASELP serves to enhance children’s social, cultural, educational, andphysical development. Students are able to participate in meaningful activities that refineskills, have opportunities for homework and study time, explore new fields of interest, andparticipate in hands-on activities, The programs are licensed by the Maryland StateDepartment of Educalion, Office of Child Care and are conduoted in accordance with PrinceGeorge’s County Board of Education administrative policies and procedures.

BASELP is a special revenue fund. This fund is dependent upon fees collected fromparticipants. The school system does not subsidize the budget for this program. The currenttuition of $3,000 has not increased since the 2009-2010 school term; and the currentregistration fee of $10 has not increased since the inception of the program in 1986. Thus,in order to continue operating in a reasonable and responsible manner, the tuition andregistration fee will increase for the 2014-2015 school term. The approved tuition Increase is$200 and the approved registration fee inorease is $15. Therefore, effective with registrationfor FY15, the total tuition will be $3,200 resulting ill bi-weekly payments of $155; and theregistration fee will be $25, resulting in a $125 payment to register for FY15, The paymentschedule for FY15 is oil the other side of this notice.

The Board of Education approved these increases at the January 9, 2014 Board meeting.

Please refer to your Terms of Agreement with PGCPS/BASELP for details. The annual tuition is$3,200. It finances the self-sustaining, non-profit delivery of all program operations. Payment #1 is atuition deposit of $100. The other 20 ir~stallrnent payments are $155 each, for a total of 2t payments.The $25 registration fee is non-refundable and due at time of registration. All other payments are duebl-weekly on Mondays except as noted, All payments must be made by money order, payable toPGCPS/BASELP @. Elementary School or electronically via PayPal. SocialServices vouchers are accepted. Parents/guardians are responsible for co-payments and all fees notcovered by vouchers. All rnoney order tuition payments must be given directly to the BASELPcoordinator or designated staff person. Written receipts are offered with tuition payments.
