DEPUTY’S R E P O RTA word from our students...

In this issue, I want to put the spotlight on our Year 7 students and share some of their thoughts on what it is like being a student at Kariong Mountains High School.

Mrs Jacqui MatthewDeputy Principal

Tell us about your favourite subject.Woodwork is the best, because you’re always making something fun and learning skills. For this term we have to do mosaic and create the steps.

What is the best thing about Kariong Mountains High School? The teachers.

Austin

Tell us about your favourite subject.Science is my favourite subject, because I really enjoy doing experiments with my classmates and friends.

What is the best thing about Kariong Mountains High School?Having many teachers because if you don’t like your teacher at least there will be others that you do like. Unlike primary school where you have a teacher all day, every day.Jack

Tell us about your favourite subject.Sport is my favourite subject becase you get to be active and get exercise. The teachers that teach it are also really nice.

What is the best thing about Kariong Mountains High School? The subjects. I love how we have many opportunites in them. I also like the teachers who teach them and know what they’re doing.

Mahaelia

Tell us about your favourite subject.Woodwork, because you get to create things that you wouldn’t think you would be able to make out of wood. It was fun and challenging at the same time.

What is the best thing about Kariong Mountains High School?People care if you’re OK and what’s going on with your life, and they’re caring.

Elysha

C O M P U T E R T E C H N O L O G YMinecraft for EducationThis term, the 9/10 STEM class has embarked on their task using Minecraft for Education. The students have been working collaboratively to complete a variety of tasks including surviving on a deserted island with limited resources, creating cryptic clues for a scavenger hunt and recreating our school within Minecraft. Students will test their creations with their classmates over the coming weeks.

First Lego LeagueOn 21st November, we have a team participating in the First Lego League competition at Gosford High. We have entered a team in this competition for the past 4 years and this year will be the final year for our Year 10 team members. We wish them all the best in the competition and thank Ms Lincoln for again mentoring the team this year.

Laptop NewsWe have continued to add to the schools laptop availability this term by rolling out 3 new sets of Chromebooks. The new Chromebooks feature touch screens and have made access to research and creativity in learning faster and more accessible. The school also encourages students to bring their own devices (BYOD) as many of the learning experiences in classrooms now relate to digital cloud- based work.

If you plan on buying a new laptop or desktop for your child then you don’t need to pay for subscriptions to get Microsoft Office.

All students have FREE access to Microsoft Office 365, G Suite (Google apps) and Adobe software. This free access will cover the students for all their digital learning needs whilst at school.
