Kindergarten Home Learning Grid – WEEK 4 - Term 2 2020 Dear Parents and Carers of Kindergarten students, the work below covers Week 4 of term 2 in a grid-like structure. It covers all key learning areas (KLA) and reflects the work that students will be working on at school within their classrooms. It is a continuation of the current programs that teachers have been using, although adapted for student directed learning. Please work through it at your own pace. We advise that you use a lined A4 workbook should you not have access to a digital device with access to the internet. Below the grid are printable versions of some of the activities which will be noted in the grid. As you will see there are a selection of activities that we encourage you to engage in daily to allow for practice and consolidation of the basic concepts of print, handwriting development, sound knowledge and reading skills. We love seeing our student's achievements at home and we encourage you daily to upload 1 task that they have completed. It can be in the form of a photo, video recording or even a document they have created on their device or computer. It makes our day that extra special, knowing they are enjoying their learning at home. Just remember, it is so important to get up, move about and keep your mind and body healthy too! Kindergarten Home Learning Grid – WEEK 4 - Term 2 2020

Dear Parents and Carers of Kindergarten students, the work below covers Week 4 of term 2 in a grid-like structure. It

covers all key learning areas (KLA) and reflects the work that students will be working on at school within their classrooms.

It is a continuation of the current programs that teachers have been using, although adapted for student directed learning.

Please work through it at your own pace. We advise that you use a lined A4 workbook should you not have access to a

digital device with access to the internet. Below the grid are printable versions of some of the activities which will be

noted in the grid.

As you will see there are a selection of activities that we encourage you to engage in daily to allow for practice and

consolidation of the basic concepts of print, handwriting development, sound knowledge and reading skills.

We love seeing our student's achievements at home and we encourage you daily to upload 1 task that they have

completed. It can be in the form of a photo, video recording or even a document they have created on their device or

computer. It makes our day that extra special, knowing they are enjoying their learning at home.

Just remember, it is so important to get up, move about and keep your mind and body healthy too! Take advantage of

the fitness links and brain break links throughout the day. Most importantly take time out to enjoy each other’s

company, the sunshine and your backyard.

Let’s share something you have done over the weekend. Remember when we write our sentences, we

use a capital letter to start, finger spaces between our words and a full stop at the end. Write your

journal entry this week in your workbook. Our sentence starter is ‘On the weekend I …...’

Read your sentence aloud to someone who is home with you and draw a picture. Remember, your

picture should match your sentence. If you can, take a photo and send it to your class teacher and

share your weekend with them.

THURSDAY Speaking and Listening.

News this term will follow specific topics that will be mapped out for each week in the term. Students

ARE expected to follow these topics of news.

When you are practising your speaking remember to have,

• Clear voice.

• Eye contact.

• Hands by side (unless showing object).

• Posture

• Expression of voice.

Digital: You might like to practise in front of a mirror or even speaking in front of your own ‘toy’

audience with your favourite toys. Once you are happy with your speaking using Seesaw, record your

Week 4 This week is Free choice. Choose a topic you really like to talk about and

try and convince another person to like the same thing.

What rhyming words did you hear?

Remember, rhyming words are two or more words that have the same or similar ending sound. Some

examples of rhyming words are goat, boat, moat, float, coat. When you are figuring out if two words

rhyme, use your ears to listen as you say the words. If they sound the same or similar, they rhyme.

Let’s match some rhyming words now by making our own cards and playing a game of snap and/or

memory. Using pieces of paper (big or small) write each word separately onto the paper. If you are

feeling very energetic, scatter the words onto the floor of your room or outside on the grass if it is a

sunny day and find the rhyme matches by jumping on each match.

This week we are going to start with the activity we finished with last week. Using Lego to add two

groups. Do you love Lego?

Today you will be using Lego to add 2 groups together. We can use it in so many ways to help us add,

subtract, measure and even make patterns!

The activity needs a dice and as you play today you are going to practise writing the sum using the +

and = symbols to show addition. Just like this, ___ + ____ =_____ When you are recording your sums

use the dot patterns you roll on your dice to fill in your number sentences. Record your number sums

into your workbook. Record at least 8 number sums. If you are ready for a challenge, record ALL of the

sums needed to fill your base plate.

Lego Addition

Start by throwing the dice. Add the two numbers together and find a brick with the correct number of

bumps (use the dots on the dice to help you find the total). You may have to combine 2 or 3 bricks to

get the correct number of bumps. Attach your bricks to your base plate.

Now keep going. Throw the dice, add them up, and attach your bricks to your base plate.

Keep on adding and attaching bricks. You may need to use your puzzle solving skills to fill in the plate.

The game is over as soon as you fill your entire base plate.

It can get tricky when you only have a few bumps left to fill at the end, so it’s up to you how you want

to finish. You can keep throwing the dice until you get the exact number you need to fill your base

plate. Or, you can throw the dice and just add the amount of bricks that it takes to finish filling your

base plate.

TUESDAY Let’s count by 10’s today before we get adding.

Your number sentences might look like this. 6 + 4 = 10

1. Order your ten frames from 0-10 (count the dots to help you) 2. Using a small collection of objects can you fill your ten frames so that each frame has

something in it. How many more objects did you need to fill each ten frame? Can you make a number sentence to match? Your ten frames might have 4 black dots and you have had to add 6 cotton balls, so each frame has something in it, so it makes 10! Your number sentence would be 4 + 6 = 10

Write each of your number sentences into your workbook. Digital: Take a photo of your number sentences and share it with your teacher.

THURSDAY

Today you need a dice and someone to play with. You will need the ten frame that represents 0 and you will need another for your helper to play with too, so make one using some blank paper. Choose a collection of objects to use for your game today that can fit into the frames. Now let’s play,

1. Choose who goes first. Roll the dice and whatever the number you roll, put that many of your objects onto your ten frames.

2. Player 2 has a go, doing the same as player 1. 3. Now for player 1’s second go, roll the dice. Does your number fit into the remaining empty

frames of your ten frame? If it does add the number of objects to your frame, if it does not then you miss your go.

The aim of the game is to be the first to fill their ten frames. Repeat turns until a player has filled their ten frames. Well done for playing fairly. Have another go.

What is a 3D shape?

3D shapes are solid, not flat. They have corners, edges and faces.

Let’s try this ….................. What is the difference between a circle and a sphere?

• Put your hands together like you have a circle pancake in between.

• Then hold your hands up to your mouth as if to blow air into the circle (adding the dimension

of filling up space) and curl your fingers as you blow… forming a sphere with your hands.

• The flat circle now has become a solid sphere like a balloon.

This is because, 3D shapes are solid, not flat. They have corners, edges and faces.

A cylinder is a circle that has been streeeeeetched out. Form a circle with one hand and pretend like

you’re pulling the edges out (keeping your pulling hand in a “c” shape) – creating an imaginary circle –

the body of the cylinder.

Can you find some things around your home that match a sphere, cone, cylinder and cube? Go looking,

Learning about plastic

Do you know what is made from plastic? Can you find 8 things around your house that are made from

plastic and take a photo to share with your teacher, and class, of these 8 things in one large group?

Think about looking at bottles, toothbrushes, bags, containers, toys or bins in your house as some of

these might be made from plastic.

How does plastic feel? Take some time to think about whether it is smooth, rough, sharp, cold, hot,

transparent, dark, light and/or bendy.

Non-Digital: Write a sentence to describe plastic into your workbook. You might like to start with,

‘Plastic is .........’

Digital: Can you type your sentence, ‘Plastic is ….’ into a word document on your computer and insert a

picture of a plastic bottle? It would be great to share this with your class on SeeSaw.

THURSDAY Creative & Practical Arts (CAPA)

Focus: Body shapes- Students investigate the use of personal space by using their bodies and parts of their bodies to make shapes.

Today we are going to practise our jumping. It would be great if you have a skipping rope as we can use

Practise your new skill by running through some of the following activities,

• Place something on the ground and try and jump over it. It could be a taped line, a favorite

small toy, anything! You could use these things to make a giant path or obstacle course/path to

jump over, using objects of different sizes and heights.

• Jump to pop bubbles! Blow bubbles low to the ground and see if you can jump up and pop

them.

• Lay a rope on the ground and jump over it. Practice big jumps over it and then move on to

small quick jumps backwards and forwards over the rope.

• Hold your skipping rope by the handles and practices turning it over, step over the rope as you

turn it over your body.

• Once you feel comfortable turning the rope and stepping over the rope, try turning and

jumping, just start with one turn and jump. Keep practising!
