ADVANCED CONTROLS - WEAPON SELECTIONIf you have collected several weapons, you can quickly switchbetween them by holding down the L button to activate theweapon selection panel (don’t release the L button beforefinishing the sequence).There are several slots (each collected weapon appears alwaysin the same slot) and one extra slot for camera reset.

While holding the L button down, pressthe F,A,S or D button. Each buttoncorresponds to a particular set ofweapons.

Keep pressing the L button, and oncemore press the F,A,S or D button.Each button will now correspond to aparticular weapon.

SAVING & LOADINGSAVING You can save at the end of the level. Choose Save Game andselect a slot (choose an empty slot or overwrite any previoussaved game). Press the S button to save.

It is also possible to save before youhave finished a level. Press the STARTbutton to display the Pause menu andchoose Save Game.

Caution: If you save a game before finishing the level , you willhave to replay the level from the beginning when you load thissaved game.

Note: You cannot save the game in the first level right afterstarting the game.

LOADING To load a saved game, choose LoadGame at the Main Menu, choose anypreviously saved game and press the S button.

STORYKao must deliver the world of animals from the hands of theevil hunter and his wicked henchmen. Kao can count on his

friends, like the Firefly and the Parrot to help him.

Help Kao and explore many worlds, from theArctic to Australia. Control amazing vehicles, master

fighting techniques, and overcome loads of enemies! Thereare lots of power ups to collect, hidden areas to find, and

bonus levels to explore as well. Grab your boxing gloves, andget ready for action!

WIRELESS (WLAN) FEATURESSoftware titles that support Wireless (WLAN) functionalityallow you to communicate with other PSP™ systems, downloaddata and compete against other users via connection to aWireless Local Area Network (WLAN).

AD HOC MODEAd Hoc Mode is a Wireless (WLAN) feature thatallows two or more individual PSP™ systems tocommunicate directly with each other.

GAME SHARING Some software titles feature Game Sharingfacilities, which enable you to share specific gamefeatures with other users who do not have a PSP™Game in their PSP™ system.

INFRASTRUCTURE MODEInfrastructure Mode is a Wireless (WLAN) featurethat allows the PSP™ system to link to a networkvia a Wireless (WLAN) Access Point (a device usedto connect to a Wireless network). In order toaccess Infrastructure Mode features, severaladditional items are required, including asubscription to an Internet Service Provider, anetwork device (e.g. a Wireless ADSL Router), aWireless (WLAN) Access Point and a PC. For furtherinformation and setting up details, please refer tothe PSP™ system Instruction Manual.

Kao Challengers supports Ad Hoc Mode. For moreinformation about multiplayer features, see“Multiplayer Menu” on page 11.

KAO’S WORLDThe game begins on a ship, where Kao’s friend, Parrot rescueshim. After escaping, Kao finds himself in Dark Docks, where hewill start his adventures. Talk to animals in Dark Docks to getthem to take you to their world, where your help is needed.After finishing each world and beating the boss, Kao returns toDark Docks, where he must find another of his friends andundertake the next adventure.

While Kao helps his animal friends, he must collect 3,000ducats to bribe the Bossman into letting him enter HunterBarnaba’s domain, the Abandoned Town.

You can go back to Dark Docks at any time, even if you haven’tyet completed the current level. To do so, choose Back to Hubfrom the Pause Menu. To continue the adventure from DarkDocks, talk to Firefly and choose the last incomplete level fromthe panel that appears.

ON, any time you collect a new weapon your character willautomatically switch to it.

MULTIPLAYER GAME SCREENS There are two types of game screens – one for matches basedon fighting and another for racing.

FIGHTING

• Energy / shield amount• Radar• Number of collected coins• List of gathered weapons – active weapon has number of

bullets beneath it • Players’ characters / nicknames / score

RACING

• Number of elapsed laps / best lap time• Map with players’ positions• Overall time• List of racing players / nicknames / characters – the player at

the top of the list leads the race

VOTES When playing, any players may vote onchanging the current map or gamemode and start a new game. The votepasses if the majority of playersapprove it. To cast a vote, press the

START button and choose Votes.

When someone casts a vote, an icon appears that all playerscan see. To take part in the vote, press the START button andchoose “yes” or “no.”

MULTIPLAYER MENUYou can either host your own multiplayer game or join a gamehosted by another player.

HOST GAME • Choose Host Game at the Multiplayer Main Menu, choose the

game mode you want to play, and press the S button.• Press the directional buttons to choose arena and adjust

settings and confirm by pressing the S button. Start thematch by pressing the S button on the Start Match option.

Note: In Weapon Master mode before the menu appears, youmust use the directional buttons to select which weapon youwant to master and confirm by pressing the S button.

JOIN GAME You can join a game hosted by another PSP™ user. Choose JoinGame and select that PSP™ user’s nickname from the availablelist. You cannot connect to a game that is already full.

CHOOSE CHARACTERSelect the Change Character option. Youcan also change characters whileplaying by pressing the START button.

HALL OF FAME Press the S button on Hall of Fame in the Main Menu todisplay a list of the best results that were achieved in the racingstages.

The hero, and a very gifted kangaroo.

PARROTA little bit scared and grumpy but very helpful!He keeps Kao up to date on what is happeningto the animals around the world, and helps himfollow the right path to save them all.

FIREFLYShe is Kao’s guardian angel and always givesgood advice. Talk to Firefly when you are notsure what to do next.

BOATSWAINA keeper of Barnaba’s domain. Althoughstanding firmly on his post, he will, for areasonable amount of coins, let Kao into the city…

HUNTER BARNABAWhat a mean, despicable character! Kao mustdefeat him to ensure the freedom of the animalworld!

MULTIPLAYER GAME MODESDEATH-MATCH

The winner is the one who has themost points within a given time limit orreaches the given point limit first.Weapons and ammunitions aregathered and reappear in various partsof the map.

About weapons: bigger is better! But the greater the weaponis, the more you have to pay for it. Collect as many coins aspossible !

CHICKEN MASTERIn this mode you get points by wearingthe chicken head, and by killing otherplayers or the player with the chickenhead on. When you wear a chickenhead, you will get five points each timethe clock makes a full round.

WEAPON MASTERSimilar to Death-Match, however youhave only one weapon that you choosebefore starting the match. In this modeyou also have to collect coins toincrease your ammunition supply. The

amount of coins you need varies, depending on the weaponyou are using.

RACINGEach level is associated with aparticular “vehicle.” When the playerhosting the racing match selects thelevel, the “vehicle” is attributedautomatically.
