FELLOWSHIP GROUP KICK-OFF: There
will be a meeting on Sun., June 12 at 4:30 p.m. in
Room 5 for everyone who signed up to be in a
summer fellowship group. Be sure to come and
meet the others in your group and plan your first
get-together.
EVENING WORSHIP: Join us for Sun.
evening worship services this summer at 6:00 in
Bixler Chapel. Rev. Ray Penney is preaching in
June with Rev. Roy Ames as the song leader.
CALLING ALL FORMER CHOIR
MEMBERS:
Sun., June 26 will be my last Sun. as Minister of
Music for the Village Church. It is a position I have
been privileged to assume for nearly 43 years. My
passion has always been to prepare the people
through music to hear the Word of the Lord that the
pastor has chosen to preach from in that morning‟s
5
5
worship. The chancel choir has been the major
vehicle for accomplishing this goal.
Several choir members have suggested that it
would be a good Sun. to ask former choir members
to combine with the present choir in the morning
worship hour to sing the selected anthem. I thought
“what a great idea!” I have tried to locate each of
you to participate in this endeavor. I will select an
anthem that we have rendered every year so that
you will not be expected to attend rehearsals to
achieve this goal. Right now, it seems that every
year we sang “The Hallelujah Chorus” at the
conclusion of the Christmas Cantata so that with the
music in hand, you would be able to sing with us.
Do not worry if you feel you don't have the
voice that you once had to sing in choir. Remember,
the present choir will be assisting us. Can‟t stand
long enough for an anthem? We‟ll have chairs
available at the front. In other words, there just
aren‟t any excuses for not participating. (Unless, of
course, you aren‟t in Dowling Park that Sun.)
You will not have to sit on the platform (or for
that matter even come up to the platform). I would,
however, ask you to come forward to stand (or sit)
at the front and the choir will walk out to the front
to join you. I hope you will consider being a part of
this endeavor if you are able.
If this is something you would be willing to do,
please call the church office and we‟ll add your
name to our list.
I would be so grateful if you were able to
participate. It would also send a clear message of
how important the chancel choir ministry is to
worship and how many of you have served over the
years to make this choir a most amazing body of
ministry partners.
Each of you is remembered fondly as we have
been a choir family here at ACV.

MEMBER SERVICES Ann Thompson, VP, 658-5400
I guess we are all seeing lots of political campaign
signs going up along the roadways. The next
election that will be held is the Primary Election on
Aug. 30. ACV hosts a precinct voting site both the
day of the election and during early voting.
Here are a few things you need to know:
You must be registered to vote in Suwannee County
by Aug. 1 to vote in the Primary. There will be a
representative from the Suwannee County
Supervisor of Elections at ACV to assist with
registration; watch for the date to be announced.
Once qualifying for candidates in the primary ends,
the candidates will be invited to participate in
candidate forums at ACV; watch for the date to be
announced. Campaign signs are not to be posted on
ACV property. Candidates are not to come door-to-
door to campaign on ACV property.

your safety should an emergency arise.

Just a reminder that Flag Day is observed on Tue.,
June 14, the anniversary of the day in 1777 when
the Stars and Stripes was adopted as the official flag
of the U.S. If possible, fly the flag and take time to
feel the pride for all that our flag represents. The
sight of the Stars and Stripes being displayed at
various events and places still, to this day, sends
shivers up and down my spine. How about you?
I have just completed my 10th
year as the
Coordinator of Volunteers and want you all to know
how thoroughly I have enjoyed my interaction with
everyone. Not only have I met wonderful people
and assisted them in finding their way to use their
talents and interests in volunteer service, but I have
also reaped the rewards when volunteers are excited
about giving back to the Village and when
schedules were met. Thank you sincerely for your
patience and cooperation, dedication and
excitement.
An important part as coordinator is to tally the
volunteer hours monthly to be used in a special
report, which is why I stress that in my column so
6

frequently. In March, 48% of our volunteers
reported approximately 3,669 hours; in April, 46%
of our volunteers reported approximately 3,775
volunteer hours. There is currently a new program
in place that provides a better way to track the hours
than before. I am looking forward to receiving
those blue Monthly Volunteer Hours Reports more
than ever.
The deadline for the May reports is Fri, June
10. Please mail them to P.O. Box 4304, or drop
them off in the IC.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Janet Campbell
and her family due to the sudden death of her
husband, Lew, last Wed. evening, June 1.
“Just think, you're not here by chance, but by
God's choosing. His hand formed you and made
you the person you are. He compares you to no one
else - you are one of a kind. You lack nothing that
His grace can't give you. He has allowed you to be
here at this time in history to fulfill His special
purpose for this generation.” Roy Lessin
CARTER HOUSE Debby Vowell, Reporter
Angie Voyles’ sister, Peggy Stratton from Lake
City, came to visit her on Sun. The two sisters
enjoyed their visit together.
We have two birthdays - Michael Saunders on
June 27 and Agnes Moffatt on June 30. We hope
you both have great birthdays. We wish you many,
many more.
If you have an item for the FNN, you may place

My SHOUT OUT this week is to Lee Dean! Lee
frequents DM on a regular basis for a variety of
reasons. She volunteers at the Rustic Shop and
brings us all-occasion cards for the residents once a
week to browse through and shop at their leisure.
While she is here, she visits many residents. She
has also helped serve meals for special occasions.
She truly brings smiles and comfort to many. If
someone is down, she prays with them and shows
great support. We appreciate your special ministry
to us, Lee! Thank you so much!
Crystal Delcastillo, Assistant Manager/Activity
Coordinator, led our monthly Resident Meeting last
week, going over the many activities and events of
June. She also shared the beautification and
enhancement project of the area outside the 1100
hall which faces GSC. We are so anxious to see the
landscaping and fencing of this area to beautify the
view from their windows! Our “Resident of the
Month” is Virginia Kilgo! We will share her story
with you soon!
This past Sat., the weekend staff enjoyed a
bowling activity with the residents. The ladies did
so well at bowling that the men had to cheat to
catch up, by hitting the table to knock the pins over
(Vic Grondzki?). Charlie Rinek even used his
shoe to knock them over! Marion McKee rolled
the bowling ball down the table and staff member,
Karis Rewis, accidently hit the table, so Marion got
a strike! Everyone laughed hysterically. They also
enjoyed cookies and punch while having so much
fun together, including Mary Henning, Laura
Lanier, Delia Chellis, Peggy Howland, Mary
Overhulser, Martha Hamilton, Linda Hughes,
Virginia Kilgo, Ethel McCormick, Norma
McKee, JoAnn Miller, Jean Reach, and Barney
Stoffel. A big thanks to Deb Jenkins (Jean Reach‟s
daughter) and the entire weekend staff for helping.
It was great to have so many participate! During
the Men‟s Coffee Hour, they enjoyed fellowship
over Wildy Pecan Danish and coffee. During their
conversations, they figured out their ages totaled
915 years (10 men). So…if you want to break the
1000 year mark, we need a few more men to join us
on Tue., June 21, at 10:00 a.m.!
We want to wish happy anniversary to staff
member, Becky Baker and her husband, Curtis, on
June 8 and happy birthday to Lilya Patterson on
June 10.
Next week we will be celebrating National
Assistant Week, so we will be recognizing our
CNAs and Resident Aides. Our Appreciation Party
for them will be Thur., June 16.
Once again, I want to thank all of you for your
many visits! It means the world to us!

Our Village Memorial Day celebration continued
through last week. We witnessed a musical
celebration presented by the Gainesville Pops at the
VC on Sat. It was a fitting presentation of stirring
patriotic music to honor our American military

Louis and Betty Driggers recently celebrated
Louis‟ 69th
high school graduation anniversary in
Palmetto, FL. They plan to attend the 70th
next year.
Then, they say, that will be that. While there they
also visited relatives.

I‟m back! Whenever I think about writing this
column, I should just stop and do it. Last week I
didn‟t do that and, of course, the results - forgetful
Joyce and no column. Of course it was a good test
to see how many people read the column since
several of you noticed there was no news from ET.
My apologies to those whose birthdays I missed.
Happy belated birthday to Donna Allen (June 5),
Susan Goodwin (June 6), and Frank Hurst (June
6).
I hope most of you were able to attend the
Gainesville POPS concert on Sat. It was an
outstanding performance which again reminds us of
how blessed we are to be able to experience such
professional events. Thank you, Dick Grillo, for all
you do to bring these events to us.
Jim and Beverly Bell were happy to have
family visit them last week: daughter, Alyson from
NC, and son, Craig from Washington, DC, from the
Fri. before Memorial Day until Mon. Son, Duncan
from Callahan, was able to join them later in the
weekend. Beverly calls Craig her world traveler. It
seems our government needs his services all over
the world. He was in Nigeria on Mother‟s Day.
Remember Thur., June 9, is the second Thur.
and our gathering for breakfast at the Village Café
from around 9:00 a.m. until …
Frank Sinclair has a birthday this week on
June 11 and Lou and Joyce Berra celebrate their
anniversary on June 10. Congratulations on another
milestone for all of you.
GOOD SAMARITAN CENTER Do you have 30 minutes a week to spend with a
nursing home resident? We are looking for folks
who can spend some time outdoors and offer
conversation/companionship. Also looking for
someone to take short walks (as able) with a
resident who needs supervision, but enjoys walking.
If you are able to give just thirty minutes (or more
time if available) a week, these residents would be
truly blessed. Please call 658-5568 for more
information.
The month of May came and went before I
could get a thank you in here for all who helped us
with our Nursing Home Week Activities.
The Sat. before Mother‟s Day, the Children‟s
Choir from the First Baptist Church of Dowling
Park presented a wonderful program entitled “GPS -
God‟s Plan for Salvation.” We hope they visit us
again soon.
Every woman was given a corsage for Mother‟s
Day to show our appreciation. Austin Warriner
came as he does every Sun. afternoon to play piano
for the residents. Thank you, Austin.
We started off NHW with an Old Fashioned
Hoedown in the Camellia dining room. Dan Ligotti
and Elaine Brennan were here to partner up with
some residents to enjoy some circle dances. We
enjoyed root beer floats.
The next day Pastor Jim Gilroy held our
attention with a bit of magic out front. May White
brought Sunny over to spread some cheer to
everyone. We always enjoy our furry friends. My
vision of a petting zoo turned into a dog or two, one
huge rabbit, a hedgehog (really cool) and some
really cooperative chickens. All who wanted had a
chance to visit and pet the animals. We had carnival
games outside, food, food, and more food. We even
had a Coney Island lunch with hot dogs with all the
NY fixins, soft pretzels, and homemade Italian Ices.
Jan Gurniak helped escort and spent time with
many residents. They truly appreciated the
company. We look forward to Jan becoming a
regular volunteer. Dick Grillo wrapped it up for us
with a great sing-a-long and again we had FOOD.
Thank you to the kitchen staff for making it happen
and to all the staff who helped.
The next week brought the Village Drama Club
to perform for us. We thoroughly enjoyed the skits.
Laughter is truly the best medicine. Thank you.
I can‟t leave off our newest visitor, Matilda the
baby fawn. Thank you to Lindsey Lewis for
bringing her in and letting us enjoy her. What a
treat. Look for pictures coming soon.
We are having a GSC Volunteer Appreciation
Party on Tue., June 14 at 3:00 p.m. It will be a red-
white-blue party. Please come and join us.
PARK OF THE PINES We missed the deadline for this news from Kathy
Bochow last week, so here are the latest activities
from the younger crowd in the POP.
“What a wild 4-day weekend at the Stephen
Foster Folk Festival. The race was on for camp
sites, as the campground turned into a packed
tent/RV city of volunteers and performers like me.
The entertainment was awesome! I got 4th
place in
the contemporary division fiddle championship,
with the FL State Fiddlers Assoc. (They liked my
comedy.) I swam in the Suwannee River, biked to
entertainment, and participated in jams and the song
writers workshop. Also, I Contra danced, two-
stepped, and waltzed before the evening headliners
who were Arlo Guthrie and Jimmy Dean. At 11:00
p.m., all of us old hippies wandered off to play
music through campsites until people collapsed into
bed. Then we went back to ours to play more music
for ourselves, then in bed by 4:00 a.m. for a
8

few hours. Sixties music came back easily. I played
plenty of new tunes. Great to be back in Dowling
Park however. Home sweet home, my life and
friends.”
On the back porch, the red fox has a friend,
supposedly, which is of the same species, but called
a grey fox. Are these foxes male, the grey ones, or
are there either sex,, or what? We‟ve not seen them
in the area at the same time, mainly eating our cat
food, so it is a mystery. I guess I‟ll have to Google
that one.
The northern-bred folks are temporarily
migrating to the north again. Happens every year
when they start to perspire and yet have done
nothing to initiate it. That‟s retirement for you. I
hear some retirees actually do have “jobs” after
their life-time employment comes to an end, but the
pay is all handshakes, a pat on the back, and maybe
a “That was a fine job you did picking up those
sticks!” Well, the Lord knows you are doing all you
can and smiles with love and expectations of seeing
you in His ultra clean environment one day.
Here is an update from some strangers in the
POP that brightens my day. Bob and Brenda Story
just returned from another driving trip to NY and
CT. Bob shared in officiating a wedding, plus
played organ and piano for same. They balanced
their time between Mt. Vernon, NY and Norwalk,
CT getting time in with the grandkids. It is good to
be home, and put the suitcases away!
We‟re still waiting for that call asking, “Has the
reporter‟s job for POP been taken yet? I‟d really
like to do that.” Well, what‟s keeping you?
Bob Reynolds

The Gainesville Pops Patriotic Concert was
discussed and we were sure it would be well worth
attending. (And it was a wonderful way to honor
our veterans from all wars.)
An article and pictures about a high school
student in IN and his art class project was very
interesting. His project was our American Flag,
which almost filled the back of his pick-up truck.
After painting the “Stars and Stripes” on a piece of
wood, he and two friends painted 4,466 toy soldiers
red, white or blue. (The weather was well below
freezing at the time.) These were then glued onto
the wooden base and transported to school. Jacob
estimated the project had taken over 52 hours and
he was pleased with the final result. I‟m sure he got
an excellent mark for his effort. (I will put pictures
of this near the RV mailboxes.) This was truly a
work of art and a labor of love.

I would like to say thank you to all the ladies at the
IC for being there whenever we need a wake-up
call, or an answer to a question when no one else is
available. They are there day or night when we
need them. Lisa Pollard
On behalf of the family of Art Keeler, Jr, I‟d like to
thank everyone for their love and support. Thank
you for the beautiful words everyone has spoken of
my dad. He was a great man and he loved and
respected each and every one of you. Thank you,
Jason Hilliard, for putting together a beautiful
service and for being such a great and dear friend to
Dad. Thank you as well to Dick Grillo and John
Harper for singing at the memorial. Thank you to all
who sent cards. It was a big comfort to my family to
read such kind words. Thank you for your
continued prayers as we go through this difficult
time. Rebecca and the Keeler Family
