Great News!
After several months of consideration, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has taken the advice of the National Association of Insurance
Commissioners (NAIC), and will not impose nominal cost sharing for Medicare Supplement Plans C and F. Since Plan F is one of UA’s most popular plans, this is great news for all our Medicare Supplement producers.

Kudos To Kristyn!
We know our Agent Services staff is the BEST, but it’s nice
to hear it from our Agents. UA Agent, Darlene Hanes, recently sent this note to Agent Services Supervisor, Beverly Haller, about representative, Kristyn Shiflett. “Dear Beverly, I want to take the opportunity to mention that Kristyn is a very professional and helpful representative of your Company. She assisted me with a policy for one of my clients. The situation was handled immediately, and then she followed up with the status. I speak with many people during the course of a day. My only wish is that all of those people were as knowledgeable and efficient as Kristyn.” Way to go, Kristyn!
Interest Rates Set
The Lifestyle Annuity rate for June 2013 is 3.00 percent. Rates are reviewed and adjusted accordingly.

Back In 1992
Recruiting Is Key to Success! Recruiting is tremendously important to your success today, just as it was back in 1992. Bringing new blood into your Agency brings new attitudes, new perspectives, and, based on my understanding, a wealth of knowledge and experience. Hope you enjoy our Throwback issue. It's not every day I get to have dark hair!
Recruit NOW!
Recruiting is probably THE most important responsibility you have as an Agency leader. And right now, you are in the best of all possible positions to recruit. It's obvious to me there are vast numbers of individuals working in the insurance industry who are disillusioned and disappointed about their present circumstances … and extremely worried about the effect the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) will have on their livelihood. With an 85 percent required medical loss ratio (MLR) put in place by the PPACA, something has to give. And for many insurance companies and Agents, it’s Agent commission. As a result, the available Agent talent pool is large and getting larger.
As you know, United American and First United American are holding live recruiting and training seminars around the country and at the Home Office. In almost every city we visit, the turnout for these seminars is outstanding, and I have a strong feeling those big attendee numbers are going to continue through the year as the country gets closer to 2014 and full implementation of healthcare reform.
What’s in the Future?
In addition to losing valuable commissions, many Agents are selling for insurers who may find it necessary to increase policyholder premiums, possibly making sales harder to come by. With the future of the under age 65 health market seeming to change daily due to the PPACA, many Agents feel they do not know what lies ahead for them or their customers. Many of these individuals have been in the insurance industry for decades and have a vast wealth of knowledge and experience. They love what they do; they have generated excellent earnings doing it; and they want to continue that process. Retiring or leaving the industry is not an option they even want to consider. And I’m glad they feel that way!
The PPACA focuses predominately on under age 65 healthcare and generally ignores Senior healthcare, except for the billions of dollars it directed away from Medicare to help pay for the PPACA. But I am grateful Seniors are not facing confusing changes concerning their healthcare planning like younger age groups. There is no doubt the time is ripe for Medicare Supplement sales. It seems to be one of the few markets in the industry with a sense of normalcy and stability. In addition, with 10,000 individuals turning 65 in the United States every day according to Pew Research, the Medicare Supplement market is exploding … and will continue to grow for many years.
UA and First UA Can Be the Answer!
Every live recruiting and training seminar I have facilitated or attended, I see a room full of experienced, dedicated Agents who want nothing more than to continue doing what they do so well … without fear of an uncertain future and dwindling commissions. They recognize that United American or First United American can be the vehicle that allows them to have that opportunity.
The Senior market offers stability and growth for Agents, something sadly lacking in the under age 65 market now. And at UA and First UA, the inclusion of level, vested renewals for the life of the business* on Medicare Supplement sales creates a scenario that is hard to pass up.
In spite of the many problems and concerns the PPACA has created, it has been instrumental in bringing many quality Agents into the UA and First UA family, individuals who recognize the tremendous future in Medicare Supplement sales. And for that I am grateful.
The future is promising, my friends! Good selling for the remainder of 2013, and I look forward to seeing you in New Orleans in 2014!
* Limited to 6th policy year on Guaranteed Issue Medicare Advantage Replacements; not applicable in WA.
Charles Mankamyer Senior Vice President / General Agents
Chuck Mankamyer was a top producer from day 1. Now his wealth of experience helps you and your Agency be more successful.

Welcome to the United American and First United American Family!
WE’RE PROUD TO HAVE YOU JOIN OUR CONTINUING LEGACY!
CUSTOMIZEYour Marketing!
MAKE IT EASY WITH APP PACKS!
Thanks to a recommendation from the Eagles, ‘Compare Plans HDF & F’ (Form FA341), one of UA’s most popular marketing pieces available through the Ad Catalog, can now be customized with individual state rates in states where the standard version is approved. Although many Agents prefer the original form showing national average monthly premiums for Plans HDF and F, you now have the
option to customize the premiums for your own state. When you place your order through the Ad Catalog, indicate in the ‘Comments’ section which state rates you want. As a custom order, it will take about a week longer to fulfill your request. Check the Marketing Tools Chart for ‘X’ standard approval in your state.
Commonly required ProCare Medicare Supplement forms for new business submission for UA and First UA are now conveniently packaged for your state(s) and available from Agent Supply.
App packs include:• Application• Replacement Form(s)• Bank Draft Authorization• Conditional Receipt• Fax Cover Sheet
Each App Pack includes instructions explaining which forms you send to the Home Office and which you leave with the customer. When you receive your order from Agent Supply, always verify the correct state(s) ordered are listed on the App Pack cover. Refer to your state
Compliance Sheet for specific state requirements that may include additional forms. The Outline of Coverage and Medicare Buyers Guide are not included in App Packs, but the ProCare color brochure is sent with the App Pack.
App Pack materials are still available to download and print from the General Agent and First UA Agent websites at unitedamerican.com/logon and firstunitedamerican.com/office.

CANCER AND CI COVERAGE GROWING!CANCER AND CI COVERAGE GROWING!Thousands of people in the United States are facing uncertainty about the future of their health insurance coverage. Will employers continue to provide employer-sponsored coverage? If not, will individuals be able to find affordable coverage to provide their families with adequate health insurance protection? Or will monthly premiums be so high, they will go without insurance and pay a fine?
The Patient Protection and affordable care act (PPaca) was signed into law three years ago. It is only now starting to implement major provisions, and the results of these provisions may not be known for years.
What is known is there is a significant increase in medical plan deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses because of the PPACA. People want to know how they can protect themselves against the high costs of serious illnesses like heart disease, cancer, and stroke. The solution may be a cancer or critical illness policy. (Always check your state Compliance Sheet for approval in your state.)
• Heart Disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Cancer is #2, and stroke is #4.
• According to the 2012 Buyer & Claimant Study, 47 percent of new critical illness claims in 2011 began before the age of 55.
• If your customer can’t work, expenses can become overwhelming.
• A cancer policy from UA or First UA or a critical illness policy from UA may help ease those financial burdens.
• Benefits are paid directly to policyholders to be spent however they choose.
HealtHGuard:• Choice of lump-sum
