From the Masthead

June is here, the stewards are working, the weather?s beginning to cooperate, and the "stripers" are in thick. Does it get any better than this?

As of this writing, the city has not made a decision about the proposals it has received to lease and redevelop its property adjoining the AYC to the south, which includes an empty brick building that once served the sewage treatment plant. One of the proposals came from the AYC, but the town is abuzz with other proposals from two local companies. We would lose significant space that we lease from the city if one of these proposals is accepted. If that happens, we may need to adjust the rules in order to accommodate members in the space we own.

If you use the yard for winter storage or summer dry sailing, please be considerate of others. If you are not using your boat any longer, please notify Yard Committee Chairman Paul Morin at 978-270-2204 or [email protected] and seek storage elsewhere. Thank you for your cooperation.

The AYC is a pleasant place to be. Thank you to all who have worked so hard to get it ready for the season and to those who continue to work behind the scenes on moorings, activities, regattas, this newsletter, and other projects to ensure that we all have a great season.

We appreciate the efforts. Show that appreciation by enjoying your time at the club.

The launch shuttles, docking assistance and other services provided by AYC stewards will expand this season to better suit the needs of our members.

Daily launch service will begin Memorial Day weekend and end Labor Day weekend. Weekend launch service will continue after Labor Day until closing day. Weekday service will begin at 0900 and will end at 2000, except during midsummer, when the service will extend to 2100. Weekend service will begin at 0800 and will normally end at 2000, but it will be extended to 2100 in midsummer as needed. We also will have expanded service on holidays and race days.

Junior Stewards will be available on weekends from 1000 to 2000.

Please check the board daily for hours, staffing, tides, and more.

I have interviewed a fantastic group of young people to serve as Junior Stewards and Stewards and they are anxious to get started. Please meet your 2017 staff:

Please feel free to contact me with questions. The staff and I are looking forward to a great summer!

Peter Eisenhaure is an experienced Steward who has worked at the AYC for two previous seasons. It will be great having his familiar, friendly face back on the docks and behind the wheel on Gracie.

Daniel Levine will be a Steward this year. Although he is new to the club, he is an experienced launch operator, having previously served boating clubs up river.

Liam Rees will be a Steward this year. He will be familiar to club members; he was a Junior Steward last year and earned the Executive Board award for his performance.

Ben Swift will be a Steward this year. He is new to the club and comes with experience gained from boating throughout New England.

Corey Giarrusso will be a first-year Steward. She was a Junior Steward last year and was always very helpful and enthusiastic.

Kyle Colwell will be a Junior Steward. This will be his first year working at the club. He is familiar with the AYC and the Merrimack River from boating with his family.

Griffin Fogarty will be a Junior Steward. This is his first year working at the club. He is an active fisherman and has enjoyed the AYC with his family.

Vincent McKeown will be a Junior Steward, for his first year. He is familiar with the AYC through activities with his family.

Galley Curtains?

At the Fall 2016 Closing Work Party, a member volunteered to take the galley curtains home for the winter and bring them back in the spring. Whomever kindly offered to keep them over the winter, could you bring them back now that the club is open? Thank you.
