Since life is full of choices, our valueawareness influences us in our decisions.Adherence to good values will influence us tobe kind to one another, reach out to the needy,be tolerant to different views, and care for others. We will be careful in utilizing our resources andrefrain from certain luxuries putting a limit topursuing pleasures. We will be moreaccommodating in all situations. Pleasureshave to remain at modicum in our lives to helprelax our minds (Matt. 5:39-42).

Exploiting others to indulge in inhumanactivities, unethical transactions, and runningbusiness without a moral base creates a societyof corruption and bribery, which is contrary tomoral standards. We have comea long way in using various meansof modern technology in our day-to-day life. Such knowledgegained should be used for goodand not bad. The guidance of agood value system is essential touse the knowledge for the goodof humankind. Knowledge withoutvalues leads to character erosionand its consequences (Prov. 2:6).

Five Basic Human Values(Matt. 5:48; Prov. 1:2-4)

They are love, truth, rightconduct, peace and nonviolence.Love in words is truth; love inaction is righteousness. When love tugs at theheart, it becomes peace; when love pervadesin compassion, it brings forth nonviolence. Thepower of life-example of those involved ineducating matters a lot. Good values producesuperior character and refined responses in us.

Family Values(Eph. 5:22 – 6:4)

Family values provide the initial learningexperiences that make one genuinely human, and moulds children into ideal people. It is saidthat “as the families are, so be mankind”. Familylife helps to develop a system of sound valueswith the right priorities. It is a place where one

can be oneself without guise, nurturing abilities, practicing trials and receiving love. Familyvalues make members respect each other.

Politics and Sports(Phil. 2:1-3)

A political system has to embrace a numberof moral principles to ensure equality, freedomand goodness to its citizens. Democratic valuesmust always be upheld. Trying to win electionsat any cost embracing deceptive methods revealonly the degraded value system. If the winnersand losers in cultural and sports events are atloggerheads trying to stamp on each other’s

foot, they reveal their poorcharacter. Sportsman-spiritshows balanced response tovictories and failures.

Religious and communitylife (Matt. 5:16; Col. 3:23)

Although spiritual values helpand encourage us to be betterhuman beings, the youthsassociate religion and spiritualitywith divisions and bittercommunal activities. The valueswe got from religions in the pasthelped us to stop being selfishand to become sacrificial. Onecould perform the best for

humanity when he is guided to do his servicesas if doing for God. For example the doctor isto treat patients considering that God comesto the clinic in the guise of patients. All religions,in different degrees, accept the value of loveand place it as synonym for God. Even thosewho do not have faith in any particular religioncan accept good values and on that basis usetheir knowledge for the good of the society.

Media ethics(Prov. 4:11-16)

Journalistic ethics carries importancebecause a majority of readers believes withoutquestioning what the newspapers publish. Newsmedia should create awareness among people

against deception and corruption. They have towork as the conscience bearers of the society.

Ecological sustainability(Genesis 1:27-31)

Thinking for the future is a luxury for thosewho are surviving one day at a time. However,we have to look at the implications of usingknowledge unscrupulously for development thataffects and makes the earth uninhabitable. Wehave to have value awareness for environmentalconservation, especially to think in terms ofsustainable development, which is meeting ourneeds without harming the ability of other peopleto meet their needs.

Coping with the Realities of Life(John 16:33)

We all have to cope with therealities of life. Technicalknowledge alone does not equipanyone to successfully overcomeobstacles in life. It is the personalquality that contributes 85% toour success and managementskills contribute just 15%.Hopelessness and frustrationshould not rip us apart. Let ushelp our youngsters to focus ontheir potential to become victorsand not victims, realizing thatcrisis experiences are not tobreak us but to make us.

Possibility to live a fulfilled life(Phil. 4:11,12)

Forgive me for sharing the stressful anddistressing experiences of our family of threesons suffering from the threatening CysticFibrosis of which one died in early infancy, oneat age 22 and the other at age 32. Their lifelongstruggle in which my wife poured her life incaring them for 28 years before her death, andwith my daughter’s help in looking after the twoboys till their death, facing my parents’ deathetc. did teach us to be better, not bitter.

Fulfillment in life is an important factor forour well-being and happiness. The urge to fulfillour cravings leads the human mind todissatisfaction and depression. It is true thatwe may not be able to fulfill all the desires inour list. However, our experience shows that it

is possible to live a fulfilled life in spite of havingmany unfulfilled desires and unrealized dreams.

My wife, formerly a college lecturer byprofession, took care of our boys day and night, giving them inhalation therapy , artificialrespiration when they become breathless, tube-feed during their infancy, cleaning them upduring fecal discharge and vomiting etc.Remember she was very much involved insinging, directing a choir, organizing studygroups, directing camps and conferences evenfrom her student days, and teaching at theuniversity level. Since the birth of our childrenshe tried to do certain things that she couldfrom home. But she had to spend most of thetime at home in such stressful situations. Oncemy wife’s classmate openly asked her how shecould accept such a life of facing the impending

death of our boys for severalyears. She replied, “Oh, this ismy calling from God, and thiscalling of taking care of mychildren in this condition is in noway inferior to the calling ofpeople who are top level leadersand executives” (2 Peter 1:10).

At another time, I was muchconcerned when the orthopaedicsurgeon advised the amputationof my older son Johny’s left legbelow the knee which wasdecaying and giving out foul smell. When he was brought to thehospital ward from the operationtheatre, some of our friends came

expressing their sympathies. But Johnyquipped, “perhaps this body which is supposedto die any moment may require only one leg tolive”. I was even more touched when he uttered,“two legs may be a luxury for this body”. Withthe help of a nurse he wrote a quotation that heknew, on a piece of paper and hung it at hisbedside: “The more I count the blessings I have, the less I think of the luxuries I do not have”. Itis God who makes it possible for man to enjoya fulfilled life although the desires on his list arenot met (Luke 12:15,21).

Our children never allowed the life-threatening illness to defeat them. They weredeteriorating and their bodies were skinny, butthey used to encourage us by saying that“although their hands are feeble, God’s handsare able” and that they have “placed their feeblehands into God’s able hands”. Indeed, God has

the strength to bear us and carry us throughany hardship that we would face (Phil. 4:13).

Annie, my daughter struggling through allthe illnesses of her brothers and mother andbereavements, proved through her services tothem and through academic achievements that“perseverance is to make progress in the faceof adversities and problems”. We imparted tothe children, the values for turning problems intoprojects and tragedies into triumph (Romans5:3).

Become Better Human Beings(Prov. 22:6; Romans 8: 28,29)

It is not enough that an individual becomesan expert in his/her field of specialization. Theyshould become better human beings in orderto be useful to the society andto be effective in facing thechallenges of life. V alueeducation is to impart goodvalues which makes a person abetter human being. Values are, indeed, certain orientationswhich will help one to distinguishbetween the right and wrong anda capacity to accept and followthe right, while rejecting anddismissing the wrong from one’slife.

The present educationalsystem is primarily concernedwith “how to make a living”,ignoring the more fundamentalquestion, “how to live”. By layingexcessive stress on professional skill, therelevance of character-building, the highesthuman value is being ignored, it seems. Theknowledge and skills acquired in the absenceof an integrated system of values can bedangerous and suicidal. In fact, character shouldbe the basis for achievement.

Character Excellence (Phil. 4:8)

Character formation begins in our infancyand continues till death. In order to obtaincharacter excellence that enables a person tobe firmly rooted amidst all adversecircumstances in life, he or she needs, not onlyphysical and mental nourishment but alsoeducation based on spiritual values rather thanmerely monetary values. Values provide astructure to organize our lives.

Self-discipline(1 Cor. 9:27; Daniel 11:32)

Self-discipline is required to follow principleseven when one is naturally inclined not to followthem. It covers a whole lot of area such aspunctuality, eating habits, dressing, attitude, socializing (even on Internet or mobile phone),being accountable, trustworthy, sincere, hardworking and so on. With regard to oppositesex, the matter of sexual urge is real but anindividual must be mature in his sexualinclinations in order to be faithful andresponsible to the life-partner. Being responsiblein marriage, respecting the opposite genderduring dating or at other times, are disciplinesyou must settle with, so that you can earnrespect, defeat temptations, and not violate the

moral principles. Remember thathuman rights and personalfreedom are to be respected, itis important that our individualfreedom needs to be subjectedto discipline. Our firm resolve toobey principles, in spite ofpressures to violate them, is amatter of personal quality andstrength, not a weakness.

Emotional Stability(Eph. 3:16)

Emotional stability is anotheraspect to attain even when youare under pressure. Underemotional turbulence, we

become extremely intolerant to listen to whatothers have to say. The basis for endurance isthe kind of inner strength that can overcomehopeless situations and help us to prod on.

Tools that Shape Personality(Eph. 4:31,32)

These tools include people, events, circumstances and incidents that serve to chipaway the rough edges of our personality. Someof our dear ones, especially spouse andcolleagues are irreplaceable tools to shape usinto people with admirable character quality. Ourfamily members polish our rough edges andmake them smooth. We can influence thecharacter of others by making use of even theirritations among us as an opportunity toevaluate and perfect our own character.

Self-disciplineis required tofollow principleseven when oneis naturallyinclined not tofollow them.It covers awhole lot of areasuch aspunctuality, eating habits, dressing, attitude, socializing(even on Internetor mobilephone), beingaccountable, trustworthy, sincere, hardworking andso on.

The presenteducational system isprimarily concernedwith “how to make aliving”, ignoring themore fundamental

question, “how to live”.By laying excessive

stress on professionalskill, the relevance of

character-building, thehighest human value

is being ignored

Attitudinal Change (Phil. 4:8,9)

Attitudinal change is required to improvecharacter. It is said that our personality is thevisible outcome of our inner attitude. The qualityof character has its roots in our thought life. There are various contributing factors to anattitudinal change. The good insights we gainfrom books can help us change our attitude.God is able to help us change our attitude. However, ultimately, the choice lies with us.

Mutual Concern (Gal. 6:2)

Mutual concern is a noble expression ofhuman relationship. Our behavior improvesconsiderably when we live in mutualdependence, caring for others. Even those whodo not meet the expectations of the group’sprofile can be of some use.

Team Work & Interdependency(Romans 12:5)

In Team Work, interdependency is animportant value, especially in our cooperativeefforts for success. Goals in life cannot beachieved by one’s own efforts. It is said thatcoming together makes a beginning, keepingtogether, a progress, and working together, success. The secret of success for the commongoal can come only from using individual talentsin cooperation. The members of a team cancelebrate together and it will be an opportunityto help and encourage the lesser confidentteam members.

Tolerance among members is what is mostneeded. The behavior of some people may beopposite of what we are familiar with. But if weare able to see them with God’s eye as Hiscreation & His children, we can accept anybody.Little patience and forgiveness will help.

Making Sense of Life and Future(Jeremiah 29:11)

We see intelligent design everywhere in theuniverse. The whole realm of nature shouts aboutthe design of the universe. Design alwaysimplies a purpose. If so, it must include theentire creation. Not only the universe, but all init are in the plan and purpose of the creator -that includes each one of us. We are fashionedby God, our creator for his purpose, and oursense of right and wrong is born out of thatpurpose.

Purpose in Life (Phil. 1:21)

Purpose in life is derived from beliefs. Beliefsset the course for life. What we believe, therefore, is crucial. When we believe that wesuffer for a purpose, our entire perspective ischanged. Even pain is not felt as pain when wesee the purpose in it. Some people areparalyzed and disappointed because they arenot sure of such a purpose, since purposelesspain is paralyzing.

The Shakable Present (2 Cor. 4:18)

Progress which seeks to give meaning tohistory by fixing attention on a future earthlyutopia is collapsing. In the modern consumersociety, the intent appears to be immediateconsumption rather than an investment for thefuture. It looks like modern market-strategy isbased on the assumption that man has only abody, giving preeminence to the physical or thematerial reality. But in most populations we seethe built-in capacity to satisfy the deepesthuman longings and the desire to make senseof things. Our sense of justice and injusticedemands some kind of compensation for theproblems of inequality and unfairness. We dohave questions on putting rational meaning intosuch experiences of life, especially when werealize that many we thought we could rely on,are shakable.

The Unshakable Future (2 Cor. 5:1;1 Cor. 15:19,33,34; Daniel 2:44)

We know that only the shakable can beshaken, and that the unshakable cannot beshaken. No longer does science by itself seemcapable of making sense of the universe. Morepeople these days realize that only faith in Godgives them stability and purpose. The goal andhope in a meaningful future should be beyondthe reach of death, and yet not in such a manneras to destroy the significance of all that lies onthis side of death. The curtain of death liesacross the path to the future. We can go forwardconfidently even when the future is hidden, provided someone opens a way through thecurtain of death. Jesus prepared a reliable trackfor us to cross through the curtain of death. Forthis, we have to have a faith that is rooted infacts that are verifiable on the basis of publiclyaccessible evidence, and which enables us tohave a strong grip on the solidly unshakable.

We seeintelligent design

How can we maintain

Unity in the Church?

There is a majorbreak at this point inApostle Paul’s letter tothe Ephesian believers. The above verses startthe second half of thisepistle in which Paulemphasizes matters ofpractical theology thatinclude the behavior ofChristian believersresulting from followingthe doctrines taught inthe first half. Everybeliever’s life should match the excellency of his/her calling of Christ. While the previous threechapters had dealt with the calling of a Christianbeliever, the last three chapters deal with Paulurging each believer to walk worthy of his/hercalling (see 2:2, 10; 4:1, 17; 5:2, 8, 15). The word‘walk’ describes a person’s entire lifestyle. Aworthy walk is one that is consistent with aChristian’s dignified position as a member of theBody of Christ!

For the second time in this epistle, Paul refersto himself as a prisoner; however, this time he is“the prisoner of the Lord” (3:1; 6:20). What Paulmeans is that he is totally controlled by the LordJesus, and is now giving specific instructionsunder His direction alone. As one who has beenimprisoned to the Lord Jesus as a result of hisfaithfulness and obedience, Paul exhorts hisreaders to walk worthy of their calling. He appealsto them tenderly and gently using the language ofgrace! In view of all that God’s grace has done forthem (as described earlier in chapters 1–3), Paulnow urges his readers to live in a manner befittingthe divine call which had summoned them tosalvation.

Overall, Paul stresses the importance of livingin unity. God will facilitate unity in answer to prayer, but believers are responsible to obey Him. Threevirtues contribute to unity in the church: humility, gentleness, and patience. These are the virtuesthat our Lord Jesus Christ demonstrated when

“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling withwhich you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with

one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace”(Eph. 4:1-3)

believers shouldpractice all these virtueswith loving forbearanceand peace toward oneanother. This will greatlyhelp in preserving theunity between believersthat God has created inthe church. Seven elem-ents unite believers inthe church, includingone body, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

and one God and Father of all (vv. 4–6).Therefore, in order to maintain unity in the

church we must submerge our own petty, personalwhims and attitudes, and work together in peacefor the glory of God and for common blessing.Such internal, spiritual unity (John 17:21–23) canbe only produced and maintained by the Holy Spiritsince we are one in the Spirit. We should do ourbest with persistent efforts, determination, andperseverance. God has placed us together in thechurch; we must work at preserving that unity. Weshould live lives that will give consistent, undeniable evidence of the truth of the gospel justlike our Lord (1 Pet. 2:21-23; 1John 2:6). Havingpeace with God and with one another is the unifyingbond that holds all together. We are also “one inChrist Jesus” (Gal. 3:28), so we must endeavor tomake that spiritual unity a practical reality in ourdaily lives as well.

“Now I plead with you, brethren, by the nameof our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak thesame thing and that there be no divisions amongyou, but that you be perfectly joined together inthe same mind and in the same judgment”(Apostle Paul, 1 Cor. 1:10)

“Finally, all of you be of one mind, havingcompassion for one another; love as brothers, betenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil forevil or reviling for reviling, but on the contraryblessing, knowing that you were called to this, thatyou may inherit a blessing.” (Apostle Peter, 1 Pet.

One of the hardest issues that wecome across in our Christian lives isthe problem of how to deal with doubt. Many times, when we think of doubt itseems to be a large, ominous feelingthat comes to light through theemergence of science and technology. We often believe that it becomescultivated in school and in educationalinstitutions, or that is brought into ourworkplaces through our interactionsand conversations with other people.

However, doubt is not an issueunique to the 21st century. It isn’t arecent experience. Instances andproblems with doubt have always beenpresent, before the time of Jesus inthe Old Testament days and evenwhile Jesus was physically livingamong people.

When we approachthis problem, it isimportant to break itdown and understand theissue before we can evenbegin to tackle it. In theprocess of doing so, thefirst question we mustask is, why?

Why do we doubt?

There is no easy answer to thisquestion. However, one of thefundamental answers is that doubtexists because we are not equal toGod. Paul says in Romans 11:33,34:“Oh, the depth of the riches of thewisdom and knowledge of God! Howunsearchable his judgments, and hispaths beyond tracing out! Who hasknown the mind of the Lord? Or whohas been his counselor?” This verseproclaims the difference of

understanding that exists between Godand mortals like us. For us it is easyto doubt because we don’t have thecapacity to understand the world orourselves in the way God does.

We never have the full image, instead we depend on only a fraction

of God’s overall picture to maintain ourfaith and our lives.

What does this mean on theindividual level? It means that we don’tview our situation or circumstances inthe same way God views them. Godcan put every situation of ours intocontext. He can view our problems andissues as a thread in a larger tapestry. He sees how each problem we facecan lead to His glory. He sees howeach issue is meant to help both usand others around us. However, whenwe look at the exact situation, our

limited understanding and knowledgedoesn’t make it easy for us to seethings in His way. Thus, we openourselves up to doubt because wecan’t see the larger image.

Now that we have addressed theissue of why we doubt, we can turn tothe bible and find examples of wheredoubt has plagued others. This issueis not a new one. It’s a pervasiveproblem which has existed from thefall of man, and the first example thatwe want to pay attention to is fromGenesis 3:1-5. This is a familiarpassage to us, where we first see theintroduction of the serpent in the bible.Always pay attention to the firsts thatoccur in the bible, because there isalways a deeper meaning behind it.

Here we see the first wordsthat Satan speaks, and hiswords give us great insightinto the function of doubt.

Here, the serpentintroduces a question, not astatement or an observation. He doesn’t directly go againstanything that God says, butrather asks Eve to examineGod’s words herself. He asks

Eve, “Did God really say you must noteat from the tree?” This simplequestion and the words that follow playa certain role.

First it causes us to doubt whatthe words of God are. That is, weask ourselves “what did God really sayto me?’ We question if God is the onewho is speaking to us and we ask whatHe is really saying in our lives. Thiscan materialize in many ways. We askourselves questions such as “Is Godreally asking me to preach? To teach? To be a missionary?” We doubt the

Doubt is not an issue unique to the 21stcentury. It isn’t a recent experience. Instancesand problems with doubt have always beenpresent, before the time of Jesus in the OldTestament days and even while Jesus was

physically living among people.

words and promises He has given us.One of the clearest examples of thisis from Genesis 17:17 with Abrahamand Sarah when God gave them apromise of a son and the first thingSarah did was laugh from doubt. Justlike them we question God’s words, failing to understand that our God isalways faithful, and His words willalways come through regardless ofwhat we think.

The second thing we see fromserpent’s words in the garden is howwe doubt the purpose of God, thatis we doubt the why behind God’swords. We ask ourselves this all thetime, “why is God telling me this? Is itreally for my good? Is it really for Hisglory?” Gideon is a great example ofthis kind of doubt. In Judges 6:13: “Ifthe Lord God is with us, why are wehaving so much trouble?Where are the miracles ourancestors told us he didwhen the Lord brought themout of Egypt? But now hehas handed us over to theMidianites”. Here, Gideondoubts God’s purpose in hislife and asks the samequestion we do. Thequestion of why.

The third kind of doubtthat is presented is an important kind.At a deeper level, the serpent iscausing Eve to doubt God’scharacteristics, who He is. Theserpent tells Eve that she will not die ifshe eats the fruit, but we know thateating the fruit is the beginning of sin,of which the price is death. Thus, heleads her to ask “Is God truthful?” Thesnake also encourages doubt of thegoodness of God, implying God isholding back something good fromthem (v. 5). These two characteristicsof God are the ones that we doubt themost, the truthfulness of God andthe goodness of God.

We need to understand that manytimes our doubt comes from thecontradiction between what we know, and what we feel when we pass throughdifficult situations.

C.S.. Lewis presents a great casein this. When his wife was sick and noamount of prayer seemed to be helpingher, he went through a period of greatdoubt. He wrote this regarding the timesaying “We were…promisedsufferings. They were part of theprogram. We were even told, ‘Blessedare they that mourn,’ and I acceptedit. I’ve got nothing that I hadn’tbargained for. Of course, it is differentwhen the thing happens to oneself, notto others, and in reality , not inimagination.”

Here you see a great man of Godadmitting that it is much harder for usto put into action and accept the thingswe know about God when we are theones facing a terrible situation, andwhen the worst things happen in ourown lives.

But even through all of this, whetherwe find ourselves questioning God’swords, His purpose or Hischaracteristics or even when we areput through situations that we do notunderstand, we must realize that weare not alone.

We have the example of John theBaptist who was put in prison by Herodfor admonishing him for his wrongdoings. John knew for certain thatJesus was the Messiah. He saw HolySpirit descending on Him at the timeof His baptism (John 1:33,34).Probably, John expected Jesus tointervene on his behalf and get him outof the prison! But Jesus was not doinganything! In that crisis situation, doubts began to gather in John’s mindwhether Jesus was, indeed, the Sonof God and sent his disciples to Jesus

to ask: “Are you the one who is tocome, or should we expect someoneelse?” Doubts cropped up when he wasfacing a threat! Jesus replied, “Goback and report to John what you hearand see. --- Blessed is anyone whodoes not stumble on account of me”(Matthew 11:2-6).

Believers, doubt is not an issue byitself. It is not something negative, something we should push to the side. When we face doubt in our own lives, never try to avoid it. Rather use it togrow stronger.

So how, therefore, do weovercome doubt?

Pray, meditate on the word of God.Allow Him to open your capacity forunderstanding and lead you to theknowledge and faith you need to get

beyond it. Realize thatyou may not be able toanswer your questionsalone. In this way, reachout to pastors, scholarsand teachers around youwho can help. Read andlearn.

Allow your doubt tofuel your craving for God.Use it to become astronger Christian. And

more than that share with others theanswers you have found. Your doubtsof today may become your testimonytomorrow, and in this way impact morepeople than you could have imagined.

Remember, Apostle Thomas, theone who doubted about theresurrection of Jesus. But Jesus didnot rebuke him for his attitude, but tookpersonal care to appear before him tiremove his doubt and strengthen hisfaith. Thomas turned out to be such acourageous person to travel all the wayto bring the Gospel to India! It isbecause of Apostle Thomas that manyof us had the privilege of being born inChristian families and hearing the GoodNews of salvation.

In the same way, allow your doubtsto fuel the Kingdom of God.

We doubt the purpose of God, that is,we doubt the ’why’ behind God’s words.

We ask ourselves this all the time,“why is God telling me this? Is it really for my good?

Is it really for His glory?”Gideon is a great example of this kind of doubt.

Gideon doubts God’s purpose in his life and asksthe same question we do.

Can I find a Peter or Paul among you?Hurry up, deny yourselves O Church!

Awaken now! I AM COMING SOON!

As you start reading this article, I hopeand pray that this material will bring alittle essence to your everyday life.

As a grown up individual and beingbrought up in a Christian family, it hasbeen a beautiful experience to know whoGod is and to understand His working inmy life.

As my everyday testimony, I can saythat I have experienced God at His best.Although there are times when my heartis troubled about tomorrow: What will Iencounter in future? How is it going tobe? In fact, we all have similar worries, that is human nature. We get soengrossed in worldly matters that weforget God and even shorten the time thatwe keep aside for Him and His work

In Mark 8:17-21, we see Jesusasking a question to His disciples aboutall the miracles He did. They, despitewitnessing all His miracles, were notable to understand the mighty works ofGod. Same goes with us, including me.

In Jeremiah 29:11, God promisesthat He has sketched a marvellous planfor our lives which will help us to prosper,to give a hope and a future.

Father Almighty Himself has

A required change of priorities!

promised His children to rest assuredthrough the Bible. He is there for us inour best and worst days. Jehovah Jireh. But does that mean we should belethargic? No. Whatever work God hasassigned to us, it must be done with ourwhole heart and soul.

Knowing our priorities is the mostimportant aspect of our life. It is not abouthaving time, it is about finding time forGod as He has made us and chose usas His first priority. When we keep Godin front of us, everything will fall into placeand there will come a time when thingswill turn up to be easy for us than mostother people.

We all are waiting for Jesus’ arrivalto take us back home. Are we actuallyready? The delay in His arrival is shouldbe taken as His grace to examine andfind the areas in our life that needimprovemen and correction. The time isvery short and we cannot afford to waitfor tomorrow.

I pray that those who are unsavedmay accept Jesus Christ as their trueand personal Saviour and take baptismnot only by water but also by the fire ofthe Holy Spirit. We do not have any rolemodels in our life except Jesus. Walkingin the way of truth is going to be anexperience of walking on fire but the resultwill be worthwhile.

We just have one life, dedicate it toJesus Christ as He died for us. We aregoing to feel lonely from the world’s pointof view, but there will be full support fromAlmighty God. We will become socapable and strong enough to climb anymountain!“Stand tall, yet breathe in the fear of the

Apathy is becoming more and morerampant in churches worldwide. At thesame time, fewer and fewer people arediscussing or admitting that this is areal problem.

The dictionary defines apathy asthe lack of enthusiasm, interest, orconcern. As believers, we have all gonethrough at least one season in our lifewhere we have been under the feelingsof “spiritual apathy”. It might have beenthe past season that you went throughor maybe the season you might begoing through right now or else it couldbe the coming season of your life. Ifyou are prepared to fight this evil thatSatan brings, you have gained victoryover something many people fail.

When you turn to the last and theprophetic book of the New Testament,Revelation and read through the thirdchapter, you will find what the Lord hasto say about the church in Laodicea, which symbolizes the present and thelast church age before the coming ofour Lord and Saviour. The Lord says ‘Iknow what you are doing. I know youaren’t cold or hot. I wish you were eitherone or the other! But you are lukewarm. You aren’t hot or cold. So I am going

Battle Against Apathy!

to spit you out of my mouth’.It really hurts when you realize that

this is what the Lord wants to sayabout us and that we make the Lordfeel angry about us. I want you all toask yourself a question: ‘What was “it”that caused me to be less passionatetowards the Lord?’ One of the ways toanswer this question is to ask God. Itis possible to obey without love andcling to the truth and serve God, yetdo so in loveless and lifeless fashion. But will it please God? Never, becauseHe always checks our motives andintentions rather than the impact of theaction.

A believer who might feel spirituallyapathetic should confess any knownsins and ask God’s cleansing and

renewal. Like when King David realizedhe had committed a huge sin, he criedout to the Lord, ‘Create in me a pureheart, O God, and renew a steadfastspirit within me’.

Here are three things as answersto overcome apathy:

Remember:First, the spiritually apathetic

person needs to remember or thinkback to the time when he/she sensedthe warmth and closeness of Christ’spresence.

Repent:Then he/she needs to repent; that

is, they need to see their spiritualapathy as sin and confess it to God.

Renew:Finally, he/she needs to renew; that

is, they must cultivate a renewedcommitment to the Lord - not justserving the Lord but knowing Him,praising Him and fellowshipping withHim.

Remember what enjoyment youonce had in Christ and the joy of yoursalvation, repent of where you haveallowed apathy to get into your life andrenew your commitment and work forwhat God has destined for you.

"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or theother! So, because you are lukewarm - neither hot nor cold - I am about to spit you out of

my mouth" (Revelations 3:15,16)

Johanna Tresa ShibuHouston

"As the excellence of steel is strength, and the excellence of art is beauty,so the excellence of mankind is moral character"

"The Spirit-filled life is not a special, deluxe edition of Christianity. It is part and parcel of the total plan of God for His people"

"The most critical need of the church at this moment is men, bold men, free men.The church must seek, in prayer and much humility, the coming again of men made of the stuff of which prophets

and martyrs are made"

"We are not diplomats but prophets, and our message is not a compromise but an ultimatum"

"The church that is not jealously protected by mighty intercession and sacrificial labors will before long become the abodeof every evil bird and the hiding place for unsuspected corruption. The creeping wilderness will soon take over that church

that trusts in its own strength and forgets to watch and pray"

“Having a conversation”to replace “preaching”?

Some Christian leaders arebeginning to talk about replacing“preaching” with “having a conversation”!They feel that we should stop “preaching”from the pulpit and start being morepassive and less confrontational. Today, the truth is often neglected, watered-down, or avoided altogether in the hopeof not offending members and buildinga large audience. Judgment is nevermentioned, repentance is never sought, and sin is often excused. They want tobuild a church rather than break a heart;be politically correct rather than biblicallycorrect; coddle and comfort rather thanstir and convict. “Christ Jesus came intothe world to save sinners” (I Timothy1:15), yet, many avoid words such as sinand repentance. Pastors are to be pillarswho support truth, not who oppose it.Truth is not “flexible”. Truth liberates, truthrebuilds, truth restores, truth heals, truthtransforms, truth prevails - you don’tchange truth - truth changes you!

Some genuine Christian leaders areasking: “Where are the Isaiahs andJeremiahs calling nations torepentance? Where are the Peters andPauls who spoke with such authority thatmartyrdom did not silence them? Whereare the Spurgeon’s who spoke with suchauthority? Where are the D.L. Moodyswho brought America to her knees? Asthe church falls deeper into self-relianceand further from reliance on God, ourneed for bold leadership has never beengreater. We must stop confusing God’spatience with His approval and preachwith conviction from the pulpits again”.

Let us say ‘Amen’ to that!

Bible in ‘sign language’!

CBN News reports that Wycliffe Bibletranslators have begun work on reachingthe deaf community with a sign languageBible translation. Chantel Pagan, thedirector of ‘Advocacy for Deaf BibleSociety’ explained that, although deafpeople can read the Bible, having ittranslated into sign language

level. She asks: “So why not give themScripture in their heart language? Whynot translate the Scriptures in a formatthat they can understand and offer videothat they can have on technologicaldevices?" Wycliffe hopes to create astandardized, all-encompassing signlanguage translation to serve deafpeople.

The Bible has been translated intothousands of languages across theglobe, but one people group that is oftenunable to read the Bible in a languagethey can understand is the deafcommunity. Let us hope and pray thatthe efforts of Wycliffe bear fruit soon.

Mark of the ‘Beast’?

Thousands of Swedish citizens arehaving microchips implanted under theirskin to replace credit cards, keys andpersonal identification. According to areport by AFP, Ulrika Celsing, a 28-year-old Swede, has a microchip in her hand.To enter her work, she waves her handin front of a box and then types in a code.No key or physical ID card is needed.

She said: "It was fun to try somethingnew and to see what one could use it forto make life easier in the future".Sweden’s national railway allows peopleto use microchips in place of tickets.Patrons can board the train by having theirhand scanned.

Some pastors and ‘End Times’theologians believe microchipping willplay a role in the End Times, although by

their biblical interpretation it will lookdifferent than in Sweden. The verse oftenreferenced in discussions aboutmicrochipping is Revelation 13:16,which says the beast “forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free andslave, to receive a mark on their righthands or on their foreheads”. Pastor DaveDoyle said: "I take microchipping as aform of the mark. It will eventually becomesomething that is mandatory, and thosewho refuse it will have to deal with theauthorities who do not appreciate theiropinions”. A popular Christian websitesaid: “Having a medical or financialmicrochip inserted into your right handor forehead is not the mark of the beast. The mark of the beast will be an end-times identification required by theAntichrist in order to buy or sell”.

Technological advancements are allpointing towards an authoritarian rulerwill be able to control everything as perhis will. But, thank God, we will soon fly

away before that happens!

The film, “I can only imagine”

The faith-based film, “I Can OnlyImagine” shocked Hollywood at the boxoffice in March. In its first three weeks, ithas grossed $83 million. The movie tellsthe story behind the famous ‘MercyMe’song, “I Can Only Imagine”, detailing howsinger Bart Millard’s abusive father came

to Christ late in life.

Bart Marshall Millard (born Dec. 1,1972) is an American singer andsongwriter who is best known as the

leader of the band ’MercyMe’.

Children'sCorner"Let the little children come to me,

and do not hinder them" T h e r e were two best

friends named Chris and Josh who always spent time together. Chris was a Christian while Josh did not believe in God. Josh always made fun of Chris whenever Chris talked about God as a Creator. Josh would always pass remarks on Chris because he believed that everything was created by God. Chris always told Josh that there was an intelligent creator behind all this. One day Chris and Josh walked through a farm. Looking around the farm Chris said to Josh, ”Don’t you feel there is a creator who made so many different types of vegetation"? But Josh made fun of Chris saying, “Your God is so silly. Look, He made so big an apple tree, but the apple is so small”. Then he looked at the pumpkin and said, ”Look at the small plant and its fruit is such a

big pumpkin. Big tree has a small fruit and small plant has big fruit. That’s why I say, your God is foolish. God has no common sense!” Chris had no answer to this comment. Later after a long walk on the farm Chris and Josh were tired and they decided to rest. Both of them rested under an apple tree, soon both were fast asleep when an apple fell from the tree on Josh’s head. Josh woke up with a start and began to

scream but soon calmed down after realizing that it was an apple that fell on his head. Chris then looked at Josh and said, ”You said my God who created this universe is foolish, but Josh, imagine if the apple tree had a big fruit like a pumpkin, then you would be now in a hospital with a broken head”!

Dear children, we serve a wise God. We may not understand whatever is happening in our lives, but God is intelligent in the way He designed everything. God’s ways are bigger than your ways and His thinking you cannot fathom with your own intelligence. Bible says in Isa. 55:8,9: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts”.Juby Anoop, UK
