Several church planting specialists inAmerica call the American church the Christianindustrial complex similar in nature to themilitary industrial complex. One such writer saidthat church as industrial complex unintentionallyturns spirituality into product, church growth intoa race, leadership into a business, andmembers into consumers. I have met otherchurch consultants who believe the Americanchurch has become thespiritual Walmart, makingspiritual goods and servicesto religious consumers. Iwonder if the observations aretrue of the Indian churches.

The Bible clearly stateswhat the church should be.The church is the ekklesia, the assembly of the called. Itis the community of faith andthe family of God. It is notsupposed to be a club or anorganization, but a livingorganism. It is to be a growingcommunity of disciples whoare growing spiritually and engaged inevangelism and disciple-making.

Now take a look at our churches. Do weexperience church growth? Do we practiceevangelism? What is the status of leadershipin our congregations? Are we church membersor religious consumers? Have we become tooself-centered and self-absorbed, with ourleaders consumed with self-promotion andpreservation of culture and tradition?

Self-absorbed Churches!Researcher George Barna reminded us that

we are not called to go to church but be thechurch. How are we doing on being the church?

The church is in the world, but not of it. Weare to attempt to save some from the fire insteadof watching the fire and taking comfort only inour safety.

Jesus did not commission us to go and holdservices. The challenge was and is to go and

make disciples of all nations, not just our offspring. Ourevangelistic efforts shouldnot be limited to our own kind.God has planted us in a newplaces and situations in Indiaand outside. We cannotignore our responsibility toreach out to the peoplearound us in ways that arepossible.

A sugar factory mustproduce sugar. A shoe factorymust produce shoes. Achurch must producedisciples. Every church must

make disciples. Every believer must become adisciple maker. I am personally challenged bythese truths. I write with the hope that myreaders will also feel the same way and seekthe Lord to find ways to reach out to the localpeople of our own Jerusalem before we worryabout distant places.

Jerusalem first, followed by Judea,Samaria, and the uttermost bounds of theearth.

A believer must be well aware of the timewe live in. According to Biblical Prophecy it isperilous. Our Lord Jesus Christ has givendetailed discourse about the nature and eventsof perilous end- time. Apostles like Paul, Peter,John, and Jude have given ample space in theirepistles to describe and define thecharacteristics of this terrible time. A wise andvigilant believer cannot overlook these warningsin our sojourn waiting for the rapture. Paul in 2Timothy 3, lists 18 characteristics of theperilous time to come in the last days. Our Lordand other apostles havesaid so much in detailthat a detailed discourseis impossible within thescope this article. It is ahumble attempt to brieflyscribble some of thegeneral characteristics ofthis perilous end- time.

1. This perilousend-time is of

Perverted Relationship

The life of a believer islife of relationship, a rightrelationship with God andas result of it, a rightrelationship to oneanother in family, church, and society. We preach the gospel ofreconciliation to restore people from bruisedand perverted relationship caused by humanfall. The right relationship with God and withone another is well defined in the Bible. Thebiblical model is submissive, mutual, respectful, but the new generation of the end-time is moreself indulging. Families, churches, and societyat large are sicker than ever before due toperversion in relationship. We see this in all

Perilous End-Time!

domains of relationship. Love dominant or drivenrelationship between believers is substituted fordiplomatic association. Pastors are paidemployees to conduct the spiritual programsof the congregations and therefore not guidingshepherds of the flocks. Pastorship too is nomore a call driven divine passion but more of aprofession. Charles H. Spurgeon says: "a timewill come when instead of the shepherd feedingthe sheep, the church will have clownsentertaining the goats". Paul talks of a timewhere "savage wolves will come in among you,

not sparing the flock ---and men will rise upspeaking perverse thingsto draw away the disciplesafter themselves” (Acts20:29-30). "Every churchwhich the world likes thebest is sure to be thatwhich God abhors”, saysSpurgeon. Money, power, position, and many suchthings determine the codeand mode of relationship. There is a big gap betweenwhat the Bible describesand what we display. Whatwe exhibit are the signs ofa perilous time describedby apostles.

The other sphere of perversion in relationshipis family. The Biblical p attern of familyrelationship do stem from divinecommandments and therefore not fromconvenience. Biblically love, respect, obedience, and care are some of the values one must holdfast to maintain the right relationship. Paul saysin 2 Timothy 3:2 that there would rise adisobedient generation, who will underminedivine values and commandments. This isexactly what is happening in our time where

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers ofthemselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents,

unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of

God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!"(2 Timothy 3:1-5)

"Every church which theworld likes the best is sure tobe that which God abhors”,

says Spurgeon. Money, power, position, and manysuch things determine the

code and mode ofrelationship. There is a big

gap between what the Bibledescribes and what we

we see ruined families and weeping parents.Marital relationship is no more conventional,

therefore the family life is short lived and thattoo without much happiness. It is a time wheremen and women are “burned in their lust” andself indulging, says apostle Paul in Romans1:26,27.

Churches are filled with un-submissivebelievers. Genuine love bond between membersare no more. We ignore the biblical pattern andset perversion as the standard. Broken familieswith disobedient children are so common inchurches today. The churches adjust toaccommodate the perversion rather thancorrecting it. No doubt it is high time to realizethe hour we live in and be ready for the Lordwho is at the door as a thief in the night.

2. The perilousend-time is of

Perverted Doctrine

Sound doctrine is oneof the strong foundationsof the church. Anydeviation from it will havedire consequences.Strong warning is givenagainst additions, deletions, andadulterations. Theapostolic teaching is thescriptural standard of thesound doctrine. Paulurges Timothy to chargesome that they teach noother doctrine. "For thetime will come when they will not endure sounddoctrine, but according to their own desire, because they have itching years, they will heapup for themselves teachers" (2 Timothy 4:3).Though we have such clear apostolic mandateand a cloud of witnesses who followed itrigorously, we are easily carried away by thewind and waves of trendy preachers who setnew doctrines after their imaginations with biasedinterpretations. Our generation has witnessedthe fastest multiplying growth of perverteddoctrines more than ever before in the wholehistory of Christianity. It is bewildering thatsome of these doctrines are easily taking rootamong the so called Pentecostals who stoodfor sound apostolic doctrines for so many years!

The growth and wide acceptance thesedoctrines are getting around the globe is

shocking! Some even misunderstand this growthas end-time revival. The end-time revival bibledescribe is totally different from this perversion.A real spirit filled Christian will never be confused. The growth of perverted doctrines is nothing butthe signs of perilous end-time. We must stayvigilant and un-swayed. Apostle Peter says, “--there will be false teachers among you, whowill secretly bring in destructive heresies, evendenying the Lord who bought them, and bringon themselves swift destruction. And many willfollow their destructive ways, because of whomthe way of truth will be blasphemed. Bycovetousness they will exploit you withdeceptive words” (2 Peter 2:1-3). Be aware thatwe are in end-time. Don’t be easily carried awayby tickling words. Beware of these savage

wolves in sheeps' clothingwho deceivingly devour thesheep, for they areambitious and brutish. They breathe out theirvenom with soothingwords.

3. The Perilousend-time is of

Perverted Leadership.

We are the followers ofChrist, the greatest leaderincomparable. And wefollow the apostolicleaders who followed ourLord. Lord Jesus Christand His apostles are ourrole models to look upon

and check the correctness of the code andmode of our leadership today. Charismatic andpowerful leaders with clear vision were the backbone of Pentecostal movement. They were menof great passion, burning burden, and winsomecharacter. They were selfless, loving, imparting, and building up the emerging leaders. Scriptureand history of Christianity present innumerablerole model leaders to us whose life andprinciples are exemplary.

But we see a jeopardized leadership in ourgeneration. There is great perversion ineverything that is related to leadership. We seevisionless leaders with their missionlessfollowers forming a miserable church, deviatedfrom its purpose and destiny. We see wrongpersons installed on right positions and viceversa. The great leaders of old became popular

Our generation has witnessedthe fastest multiplying growth ofperverted doctrines more thanever before in the whole historyof Christianity. It is bewilderingthat some of these doctrinesare easily taking root amongthe so called Pentecostals

who stood for sound apostolicdoctrines for so many years!

The growth and wideacceptance these doctrines

are getting around the globe isshocking!

Lord JesusChrist and Hisapostles are ourrole models tolook upon andcheck thecorrectness ofthe code andmode of ourleadership today.Charismatic andpowerful leaderswith clear visionwere the backbone ofPentecostalmovement. Theywere men ofgreat passion, burning burden, and winsomecharacter. Theywere selfless, loving, imparting, and building upthe emergingleaders.

because of their vision, passion, burden, followers, and so forth. But today the selfdeclared leaders popularize themselves to getfollowers. They neither have a burning burdenwith driving vision nor a clear destiny for theirfollowers. Paul’s phrase “savage wolves” is aptfor the kind we see today. Jesus says, falseshepherds steal, kill, and destroy. They don’tfeed the sheep but feed on sheep.

A more vivid picture of contemporaryperversion in leadership isgiven by the Apostle Judein his short and compactepistle. He says aboutperversion as follows: Theperverted leaders rely ontheir own dreams, they aredefiled in their flesh, andthey reject authority. Theyare blasphemous andcorrupt themselves likebrute beasts. They walk inthe way of Cain, greedy likeBalaam, and rebelliouslike Korah. These arehidden reefs at your lovefeast, as they feast withyou without fear, shepherdfeeding themselves;waterless clouds, sweptalong by the winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted; wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame;wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utterdarkness has been reserved forever. They aregrumblers, malcontent, following their own sinfuldesires; they are loud-mouthed boastersshowing favoritism to gain advantage.

Yes! We live in a perilous end-time so near

to the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. The eyesof our understanding must be open clearly torecognize how far we have travelled from thetruth and standards set by our Lord andapostles. Discern everything and hold fast whatis true. Check whether our relationship with Godand with one another is purely scriptural. Don’tfollow a doctrine because it is coming fromrenowned person and has wide acceptance.Don’t follow everyone who calls himself as

leader. Many things thatwe see today arepreached or practiced inperverted manner. Bibleclearly says that theseperversions are nothingbut signs of the arrival of'the lawless one'. Paulsays: "The coming oflawless one is by theactivity of Satan with allpowers of false signs andwonders, and with wickeddeception for those whoare perishing, becausethey refused to love thetruth and so be saved. Therefore God sendsthem a strong delusion,so that they may believe

what is false, in order that all may becondemned who did not believe the truth buthad pleasure in unrighteousness" (2Thesselonians 2:9-12)

Yes, we live in a time of deception. Our Lordis coming to gather His saints. Let us discernall that is around and hold fast the truth and beready and holy to be caught up with in the mid-air. Amen.

The eyes of ourunderstanding must be openclearly to recognize how farwe have travelled from the

truth and standards set by ourLord and apostles. Discern

everything and hold fast whatis true. Check whether our

Quotable Quotes on 'Prayer'

Watchman Nee

"Our prayers lay the track down which Gods power can come. Like a mighty locomotive, hispower is irresistible, but it cannot reach us without rails"

"Negligence in prayer withers the inner man. Nothing can be a substitute for it, not evenChristian work. Many are so preoccupied with work that they allow little time for prayer.

Hence they cannot cast out demons. Prayer enables us first inwardly to overcome the enemyand then outwardly to deal with him"

"Why do so many Christians pray such tiny prayers when their God is so big?"

"Nowadays Christians appear to treat prayer as a means to accomplish their aims and ideas. If they possessedjust a little deeper understanding, they would recognize that prayer is but man uttering to God what is God's will"

How can we best DEFEND ourFAITH before OTHERS?

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyonewho asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; having a good

conscience...” (1 Peter 3:15-16)

Through theabove passage,Apostle Peter tellsus clearly how wecan best defend ourfaith before askeptical generationwho asks us ‘why webelieve what webelieve’. In otherwords, we have tobe always ready to give an apologetic answerdefending our Christian faith and our blessedhope in Jesus Christ.

In order to prepare ourselves with the bestdefense of the Christian faith, first of all, weshould “sanctify the Lord God in our hearts” (v.15a). To “sanctify” means “to set apart. ”So, weshould set apart Christ as the Lord and Ruler ofour lives. When we surrender ourselves underHis control, then only we will experience truefreedom. When we yield the throne in our heartto Jesus, it is then only that he will rule over us.All we do and say should be in His will, for Hispleasure, and for Hisglory. He will thenguide us through anydifficult interrogation togive profound, thoughtful answers todifficult questions thatare bombarded at us.

Our Christian faithshould thus bedefended by areasonable apologetic delivered with meeknessand fear. We should give our testimony withmeekness (humility) toward others and with fear(reverence) toward God for what He has done.In making this assertion, Apostle Peter hasquoted from Isaiah 8:12-13, which says: “Norbe afraid of their threats, nor be troubled. TheLord of hosts, Him you shall hallow; Let Him be

your fear, and let Himbe your dread”. So,we should reverenceJesus Christ bymaking Him theSovereign Lord ofour lives. When weare sensitive to Hispresence in ourhearts, we are boldand inspired to

witness with skill and authority. So, rather than being fearful we should

commit ourselves afresh to Christ our Lord bypurposing to live for Him, and be ready to explainto others gently and reverently why we behaveas we do. Readiness to confess Christ is animportant aspect of setting apart Christ as ourLord, so we should always be prepared toexplain the difference that He has made in ourlives. We should always have a goodconscience, which will make us bold indefending ourselves and our faith in Christ.

Last but not the least, Jesus has promisedus that he will give usthe right words andprofound wisdom thatno one can resist - asin the case of Stephen, the first martyr ofChristendom: “Andthey were not able toresist the wisdom andthe Spirit by which hespoke” (Acts 6:10) .

Fear not, God will enlighten us with the rightwords so that we can best defend our faith beforeothers!

“Therefore settle it in your hearts not tomeditate beforehand on what you will answer;for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which allyour adversaries will not be able to contradictor resist” (Luke 21:14-15)

Our Christian faith should thus bedefended by a reasonable apologetic

delivered with meekness and fear.We should give our testimony withmeekness (humility) toward othersand with fear (reverence) toward

God for what He has done.

God created all things and theyexist by His will, for His pleasure(Revelation 4:11 ) . All living beings werecreated with a soul and body, but itwas only man into whom God breathedHis Spirit. This great desire that God,who is Spirit (John 4:24), had tofellowship with the only created beingto have a spirit i.e., with humans, isevident in the fact that God came tothe garden of Eden every evening, inthe cool of the day (Genesis 3:8) tospeak with Adam and Eve. As humans,we are each comprised of spirit, souland body; let us not take lightly thefact that our Creator yearns tocommune with our spirit all the time.

After the fall of Adam and Eve, aswickedness was ever-increasing in theworld (Genesis 6:5), we see Godspeaking only to a few faithful personslike Enoch, Noah and Abraham. It isonly during Moses’s time as Israelitesare beig lead out of Egypt and into thewilderness that God’spresence is continually visible,as a pillar of cloud by day anda pillar of fire by night. Further,He instructs Moses on MountSinai to build an Ark and atabernacle, so that Hispresence may dwell amongthe Israelites. This tabernacle,a simple tent, meant fordwelling in, was always placed in thecentre of the 12 tribes of Israel, duringall their journeys.

Exodus 25-31 and 35-40 recorddetailed descriptions of the Ark and thetabernacle, as specified by God toMoses, then diligently built by Bezaleeland his associates. Yet it is to be notedthat perishable materials like wood andlinen were used to build the Ark and

the tabernacle. The tabernacle had anouter court, where a bronze laver forwashing and an altar of sacrifice werelocated. Inside the tabernacle was asection called the Holy Place, wherethe table with showbread, the goldenlampstand and the incense altar wereplaced. Then separated from the HolyPlace by a veil / curtain was the MostHoly Place, where the Ark of theCovenant was placed under the Mercy

Seat covered by two cherubims. The tabernacle and the Ark moved

together for almost 300 years, until thedays of Eli the priest. Eli had lost hisvision, both physically as well asspiritually, resulting in revelations fromGod becoming very rare in those days(1 Samuel 3:1-2). In order to win abattle against the Philistines, Eliallowed the ark to be taken out into

the battlefield, in the custody of hiswicked sons Hophni and Phineas. Theresult of the battle was that the Israelitearmy was terribly defeated, bothHophni and Phineas were killed, andthe Ark of God was captured (1 Samuel4:10-11). While both groups – thePhilistines as well as the Israelites –tend to regard the ark as an inanimatebox, God proves that He does not needman to take care of His Ark: Hedestroys the Philistine deity Dagon’simage and ravages their cities withtumors (plague) (1 Samuel 5), punishesthe people of Beth Shemesh (1 Samuel6:19), and kills Uzzah for daring totouch the Ark (2 Samuel 6:6-8).

After David finally manages to bringthe Ark into Jerusalem (2 Samuel6:15), he expresses a desire to builda temple dedicated to God (2 Samuel7:1-2). This temple is finallyconstructed by his son Solomon, overa period of 7 years (1 Kings 6, 2

Chronicles 5). Solomonbroadly maintains the same3 sections of the temple asGod showed to Moses for thetabernacle: the outer court,Holy Place and Most HolyPlace; while adding onunique embellishmentsaccording to the wisdom andartistic sensibilities granted

to him. The Ark then finds a seemingly“permanent” structure to be housed in.The temple is demolished andrenovated / reconstructed severaltimes, until its utter destruction by theRomans in 70 AD, who did not leave astone upon another stone and the Arkof God was lost.

"The Ark" of the New Covenant . . . . . (Continuation from previous page)

of the final destruction of theJerusalem temple, the Holy Spiritbegan construction of a new “temple”under the New Covenant: the corporatebody of believers on the earth, knownas the church (Greek: ekklesia). Eachbeliever is a living stone, being builttogether into a spiritual structure, adwelling place for God who is Spirit, and whose chief cornerstone is JesusHimself. The Lord chisels and chipsaway at our rough edges bychastening us, so that we may be best

Psalms 23 is the first psalm that Iand my siblings memorized. I am suremany of us may have recited it when goingthrough different situations in life. Themain theme is this chapter is theeverlasting protection and guidance ofthe Lord.

When David is writing this psalm, heis writing from his past experience as ashepherd. We know that from a veryyoung age, David was taking care of hisfather's sheep. When God sends Samuelto Jesse’s house to anoint David as thenext king of Israel. David was out in thewoods tending to his sheep (1 Samuel16). So, when David writes this psalm,he is fully aware of the roles andresponsibilities of a shepherd. It willsurely be spiritually edifying to meditateon the Psalm.

"The LORD is my shepherd; I shallnot want" (v. 1): David is confident thatthe Lord as his shepherd will take careof him fully. In the parable of the lostsheep (Luke 15), Jesus tells Hisdisciples about the shepherd wholeaves the ninety-nine sheep to look forthe lost one if he loses one out of ahundred. David is confident that whenthe Lord is in charge of him, he will notlack anything. When you have thatconfidence, just trust that Jesus will takecare of your needs. .

"He makes me lie down in greenpastures" (v. 2): Green pastures show

abundance. He will give us abundance, not only physical blessings, but spiritualneeds as well.

"He restores my soul" (v. 3): If webackslide or stray away, He will fetch usback and revive us. He will cause our lifeto return. When our spirit is weary or sad,He will quicken us. God will do this forus to prove himself to be the goodshepherd, our guide and guardian. Thisverse is a promise of His comfort.

"Though I walk through the valley ofthe shadow of death, I will fear no evil --"(v. 4): David is remembering the timeshe was in the wildness alone with hissheep. He has tasted this situation manytimes and is saying that in the darkestand most trying hours of our life, God’spresence is with us. Whether this isphysical or spiritual time of darkness, Heis assuring that His rod and His staff willcomfort us. He is our protector , thegracious and merciful God will lead usthrough.

"You prepare a table before me inthe presence of my enemies, you anointmy head with oil" (v. 5): The danger ofdeath is past. David is rejoicing thatindeed he had adversaries and thosethat envied him but they are powerless.Oil is a symbol of gladness. It was anaromatic ointment that was used backin the days during feasts. David isremembering that here and iscomforted that God will furnish him withprovisions and comfort.

"Surely goodness and mercy shallfollow me all the days of my life and Iwill dwell in the house of the Lord forever"(v. 6): God’s goodness and mercy hasalways followed David hitherto and, therefore, he has no doubt that He willcontinue to carry him through. Hence,David is determined to dwell in thehouse of the Lord always because ofHis faithfulness towards him. Davidexpressed the same determination inPsalms 27:4: "One thing have I desiredof the Lord, that I will seek after; that Imay dwell in the house of the Lord allthe days of my life, to behold the beautyof the Lord, and to inquire in his temple".This shows his longing to be continuallyin the presence of God.

Although Psalms 23 is a very smallchapter, it has very deep meaning. Itteaches us that the Lord, our goodShepherd gives us confidence, comfort, guidance and protection.

fitted into our niche in the church“building”. Each one of us mustindividually and collectively be filledwith the Holy Spirit, in order to bearthis painful chastening and live incohesiveness (unity) with our fellowbelievers (Psalms 133:1).

We are individually called to be thetemple of the Holy Spirit / God (1Corinthians 3:16-17, 6:19-20).However, we are also informed that wecarry this precious treasure in jars ofearthen clay (2 Corinthians 4:7): in a

literal sense, our physical bodies areformed from the dust of the earth, whilein a metaphorical sense, our bodiesare also weak and fragile. We areadmonished to daily take up cross andfollow Jesus (Luke 14:27), and walk inthe Spirit so that we may not fulfil thedesires of the flesh (Galatians 5:16).May we learn to surrender our lives toGod each day and walk in obedienceto His Word, so that the world maysee the excellence of God in us, tothe glory of His name.

Rewards for mini Judases!

China is offering rewards to itscitizens to spot and turn in theirneighbors for “illegal religious activities”!All churches in China are required toregister with the government. Somechurches, though, face severerestrictions in how they worship andpractice their faith. Because of this, millions of Chinese Christians worshipunderground. The Bureau of Ethnic andReligious Affairs in Guangzhouannounced the rewards just beforeEaster. Guangzhou, with 1 1 millionpeople, is the fifth-largest city in China. Apriest told ‘AsiaNews’: “At this time, weoften meditate on the passion of Jesusand Judas’ treachery for 30 pieces ofsilver. The Guangzhou governmentwants to turn people into many miniJudases”. The prizes offered areequivalent to $450, $750 and $1,500 andthe size of the prize will depend on thescale of the illegal activity.

In an incident in Henan, China inJanuary, more than 100 police officersarrived at a newly constructed church, beat dozens of Christians who wereguarding it and then buried Bibles andhymnbooks before leaving. As soon asthey entered the church, they smashedthe donation box and pocketed themoney. They also removed the airconditioning units, audio speakers, washing machines, a computer and apiano. The new building that cost around$300,000 was opened in July 2018. TheChinese accused the congregation ofbeing in contact with foreigngovernments. They plan to convert thebuilding to a nursing home.

China shut down a well-known 1,000-member Beijing church recently and thenchanged the locks to prevent membersfrom returning to the building. Chineseofficials also ordered the pastor, ZhangXiaofeng, to sign a document stating thatthe church “has conducted activities asa social organization without registration, which is in violation of Regulations ofReligious Affairs”. Christians outside ofthe state-sanctioned churches can nolonger worship without fearing of

harassment, detention or evenimprisonment.

There is an escalation of China’scrackdown on Christian activities. Butinspite of all these persecutions, reportsindicate that the underground churchesin China are flourishing!

Movie, ‘Breakthrough’

A new movie, entitled ‘Breakthrough’has been made based on the real lifestory of John Smith, now 18, who fellthrough an icy pond in 2015. He wasthought dead when brought to thehospital until his mother began prayingfor him. Incredibly , 45 minutes hadpassed between the time he plungedthrough the ice and the moment heregained his pulse. CPR and shocktreatments had failed. The doctor called

it a “bonafide miracle”. John Smith sayshe wants the film to be a “beacon ofhope” for moviegoers and hopes hisstory helps them understand thatmiracles do happen and God does exist. He adds: “There's 300-plus pages ofmedical documents of why I should bedead. But I'm alive. We have doctors thatare on our side to pull more unbelieversin to get them to believe that this is abonafide miracle and the only personthat can do this is God”.

‘Breakthrough’ is about Smith’smiraculous recovery but also tackles theoften-asked unanswerable question:Why did God heal Smith but not others?Smith’s answer is: “I'm sorry , butrespectfully, I don't know, but I'll bepraying for you and your situation. Godis definitely alive and that God definitelyloves them and their family”.

Persecution of Christiansin Europe!

According to CBN News, there hasbeen an increase in attacks on churchesand Christian symbols in recent yearsacross Europe. Many churches aredesecrated each day in France. In 2018,there were some 1,063 attacks onFrench Christian churches and symbols, such as statues and crosses, a 17percent jump from the previous year.Apparently, there is a rising hostility inFrance against the church and itssymbols. Catholic churches in Francehave been broken into and crosses havebeen destroyed, statues smashed andtabernacles vandalized. Bishop RobertWattebled said: “The sign of the crossand the Blessed Sacrament have beenthe subject of serious injurious actions. This act of profanation hurts us all in ourdeepest convictions".

Persecution of Christians isincreasing in all countries - east and west.It is a sign that our Lord's coming isimminent. Satan knows that he has towork furiously to subvert the truth of thegospel as his time is soon coming to anend! Let us be fully prepared to meet ourLord in the clouds and enter into ourglorious eternal home!

Children'sCorner"Let the little children come to me,

and do not hinder them"

S a m m y was a 10 year old boy living in a small town in Texas, USA. He studied at t h e n e a r b y E l e m e n t a r y

school and enjoyed playing sports after school. His favorite sport was base ball. During the baseball season Sammy and his friends put on their base ball uniforms and practiced their game every day after school. On Fridays they formed teams and had base ball matches against each other. Sammy also enjoyed watching the professional base ball teams’ play when shown on television channels. He and his friends have tried to implement some of the playing strategies they have watched on television to their base ball games.

Sammy’s greatest desire was to become an excellent base ball player. Sammy asked his father if he could go for base ball camps where they teach and train different skills to be used while playing base ball. His father looked into it and told him that such camps were available only in the bigger towns. These towns were located quite far from this town, and it was hard to travel back and

forth each day just for base ball. The next Sunday in Church, Sammy

heard the Pastor speak from Psalm 37:4, “delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart”. Sammy said to himself, based on the verse, that God not only provides for our needs, He can provide for our desires too as long as our delight is in the Lord. That night Sammy started to pray for a base ball coach or training camp to be started in his small town.

A couple of weeks later, Sammy and his father went to the Supermarket as usual. As they were picking up things to buy, Sammy’s father met one of his old high school friends Joe after many years. As Sammy’s father and his friend Joe were talking, Sammy’s father asked his friend if he still played base ball. Joe was a base

ball player who played for his high school team in many base ball games. When Sammy heard that, he asked his father’s friend if he would be willing to teach Sammy and his friends to play excellent base ball. This was the start a base ball training camp right in Sammy’s small town.

Sammy and his friends practiced hard along with their coach. Soon they became a very good team. They travelled to other big towns near their town and played against the local teams and won many matches.

Sammy was persistent in praying for what he wanted. As he played his favorite sport, he did not ignore his studies or his other responsibilities. He placed his problem before God and waited for an answer at the right time. In Psalm 145:10 we read, “he fulfills the desires of those who fear Him; He hears their cry and saves them.” Of course we all know the promise in Matthew 7:7, “ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Let us take to the Lord in prayer each and every matter that we need or desire for the Lord’s hand to work amazingly in our lives.

Alen and Alma, the twin toppers of Xth grade at St. Joseph CBSE School, New Panvel attribute their success to the grace and faithfulness of God because they put their trust in His promises. Alen secured 97.2% with 100 marks in Maths and Alma secured 96.2%. They are the children of Saji and Reena, members of IPC New Panvel.

Alen and Alma have this to note: "We were inspired by a message given by Pastor Jose P Antony, from Luke 5:26 during a fasting prayer in our church. It was a call to expect extraordinary things to happen in life by trusting in God. When God decides to bless you, He will cause the situations to come in your favor, no matter what

others try to do. All we need to do is yield to Him and trust Him in every situation. We believe that God has given us this opportunity not to glorify ourselves but to glorify His name through us in our school and among our friends".

They are immensely grateful for the prayers and blessings of their parents,

dear ones, pastors and elders of the church. IPC, New Panvel along with Pastor V J Thomas and Pastor Joseph Cherian congratulate Alen and Alma on their great success.

Moreover we Suvartha family and IPC Maharashtra State convery our hearty congratulations to Alen and Alma and thier parents.

Sis. Mariamma Mathew was born on 26.10.1947 in Vadekeythil House to Mr. V.T. David and Mrs. Annamma David as their 5th chld in Edyarmulla, Chengannur, Kerala.

After her basic education she came to Mumbai in 1970 and completed B.Sc and M.Ed. in Mumbai and she joined as Teacher in North Bombay Welfare Societies High School and retired as the Principal there. She was married to Late Mr. Mathew K. Chacko on 15th July 1976 and settled in Ghatkopar.

PROMOTED TO GLORY

Pastor Joseph John was born on 24th April 1948 in Murikkolil House to Mr. Joseph and Chinnamma as their first child in Chellarkovil, Anakkara, Kumily, Kerala.

After his school education he was engaging in the spiritual matters with the family responsibility. After a while he got an opportunity to accept Christ as his personal Saviour in 1962 and took water baptism In 1973 he married to Gracy Daniel, the daughter of Geevarghese Daniel and Mariamma Daniel Vallikkunnam Modiyil House, Mavelikkara. In 1978 they landed in Mumbai for his livelihood. Then they were living in Turbhe and Rabale in Navi Mumbai. With his employment he was working as an associate pastor in the Bethesda Pentecostal Church for some time. Afterwards he joined with IPC Maharashtra in 1987 August and pioneered a new work in Airoli. Then he moved to Kalamboli and started a local congregation in 1992. Seven years after in 1999 took the ministerial charge of IPC Nerul. From there, he was appointed as the Pastor of IPC Vashi, in

2001. In 2004 again he moved to Kharghar and pioneered local church. Afterwards, in 2009 he was transferred to IPC Kanjurmarg in Mumbai and served as Pastor till 2012. He could spend considerable time in IPC Mumbai East District. Then in the year of 2012 he took charge of IPC Boisar in Western side of Mumbai. Definitely he was a visionary and had hunger for souls. Many people came to the Lord through his tireless work. May the Lord reward him abundantly.

In 2015 they moved to Kerala for some years. In these days they went though difficulties and hard times. But

God wonderfully helped them and could see the hand of the Lord. During he last days, they came back to Mumbai due to his physical ailments and were living with their daughters. He was undergoing through different medications. However, on May 1st morning his Master called him back to his heavenly abode. His untimely demise is really a great loss to all of u and particularly to the family. May the Lord grant His peace, strength and grace to all and especially to dear and near ones. The Holy Bible gives us abiding hope that one day when the trumpet of Lord shall sound, he also will resurrect and all those who lived for Christ shall meet him with glorious body before our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Daughters : Sherly & ShinySon-in-Laws : Mr. N.J. Joseph & Mr. Sadhu Abraham Grand Children : Joel, Steffy, Jeffin & Justin

We Suvartha family and IPC Maharashtra state convey our heartfelt condolences to the grieved family.

She was always available to help the students whom she taught and would not hesitate to support the weak students on the night before their exams and would always motivate them. There are so many of her students who have benefitted from her care and strictness.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour and was baptized in 01.05.1981. She joined IPC Bombay in the year 1997 and was worshipping there since then. She was very thorough with the word of God.

Bible gives us a hope through these words which say, "For the Lor himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.

And so we will be with the Lord forever." It can be today!

We Suvartha family convey our condolences to her only Daughter Betsy Mathew.
