CONTEXT

Silverstone UTC is a brand new state of the art school for 14-19 year olds based in the grounds of the world famous Silverstone Circuit. Opened in September 2013, it will offer the very best academic and technical learning in High Performance Engineering and Business & Technical Events Management.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB

To maximise the academic and personal achievement of all Key Stage 4 students.

To identify, track and monitor student’s academic and pastoral needs.

To monitor the impact of all intervention strategies. To ensure the Every Child Matters agenda is the framework

underpinning all that goes on at Key Stage 4. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching and Learning

To monitor and develop the learning and teaching and academic progress of the Key Stage, including disabled students and students from under-represented groups.

To oversee a purposeful programme of study for form time. To organise, lead and participate in events relevant to the Key

Stage, e.g. Parents Evenings, Celebrations of Achievement, Prom, Options at 16+, etc

To engage with and oversee the alternative curriculum package for Key Stage 4 students.

To develop, monitor and evaluate the UTC’s mentoring programme at Key Stage 4.

Recording and Assessment

To manage the Pit Stop report programmes for the Key Stage and lead, engage and action the resultant analysis.

To engage with and lead in the UTC’s target setting programme for the Key Stage.

To analyse student progress and achievement in a systematic way and provide reports and evidence of the range and level of progress/attainment for students in the Key Stage offering challenge as appropriate.

To support the Admin team and the Head of Student Support in the monitoring and analysis of attendance for Key Stage 4, overseeing the implementation of required interventions.

To support the Admin team and the Head of Student Support in the evaluation and reporting of the attendance interventions in place and adjust as required.

Leadership

To provide advice and guidance for the Head of Student Support, and Form Tutors for the academic progress, discipline and welfare of students in the Key Stage.

To lead tutor information sessions and provide tutor information for Bulletin in order to maintain consistency and to develop new initiatives.

To encourage all members of the Key Stage 4 pastoral team to recognise and fulfil their statutory responsibilities to students.

To build a sense of community and competition between form groups.

To work with the Form Tutors to ensure a productive tutor time is experienced by students.

To support the professional development of the Head of Student Support and the team of tutors.

To deputise for the Assistant Principal responsible for the Key Stage. Update the Principal, Governing Body and Assistant Principal on the

overall development of Key Stage 4.

Pastoral Care

To oversee and be responsible for the positive behaviour management and social development of students in the Key Stage. This may include managing exclusions and reintegration.

To monitor, analyse and report upon the behavioural progress of the Key Stage,

Implementing appropriate interventions and sanctions in line with the UTC behaviour policy.

To know and establish good relationships with students and to become accepted as a person to whom they can turn for guidance, in addition to the Assistant Principal & Deputy Principal and their Form Tutor.

To be responsible for standards of appearance and presence of equipment.

Assemblies

To lead, develop and implement an exciting and relevant assembly programme for the Key Stage linked to the Themes of the Fortnight.

To manage the arrival, punctuality and behaviour of the students in assembly.

Relationships with Parents

To develop and maintain positive home school links in order to support student achievement.

To organise the Parents’ Consultation Evenings for the Key Stage and to attend these evenings.

Other duties and responsibilities

Ensure the principles expressed in the mission statement of Silverstone UTC and those of the sponsor, are evident in every aspect of the discharge of the duties of the post.

Model the highest professional standards to staff and students in all aspects of the role, maintaining a visible presence around the UTC and leading by example.

Be committed to working in a cohesive, supportive and forward-thinking team of colleagues which shares an ambitious vision to secure flagship status for Silverstone UTC.

Contribute to the formulation and implementation of Silverstone UTC Development Plan.

Be prepared to work ‘across the piece’ being flexible and interested in other areas of the UTC.
