DESCRIPTION

Wow, what a close out of a fun filled year. The image that is etched in my mind of our most recent Past Commodore Mike, (AKA Curly) dancing with our beautiful ladies to “I Gotta Feel- ing” by the Black Eyed Peas and Ari Eickerts’s singing of that special song at the Commodores’ Ball will not be forgotten for some time.

THIS PLACE IS . . . Wow, what a close out of a fun filled year. The image that is etched in my mind of our most recent Past Commodore Mike, (AKA Curly) dancing with our beautiful ladies to “I Gotta Feel-ing” by the Black Eyed Peas and Ari Eickerts’s singing of that special song at the Commodores’ Ball will not be forgotten for some time. Of the many things that Mike and I have in common, the ones that stand out to me the most are that we both really like beer and neither one of us can dance! I would like to thank those of you who offered your well wishes and encouragement at the Change Of Watch. Knowing that our membership has the confidence in me to guide our club forward is very reassuring. This year offers both opportunities and challenges. One of the on going concerns which continues to be a point of discussion at our club is maintaining a full membership. I applaud all of your hard work to attract new members, but continuing efforts are needed. As of mid December, our membership stands at 486 with no ap-plicants on our in town waiting list and 9 on our out of town list. As we typically lose 20 or so members this time of year, we have a cause for concern. I would like our members to reflect on our long-standing rule of maintaining a membership roster of 70% in town and 30% out of town. At this time, we are at our maximum capacity on out of town membership. Perhaps it is time to revisit this and make an adjustment, even if it is only for a specified pe-riod of time. As usual, this is the time of the year where the planning of our social calendar takes place. I would like to thank Bob and Terri Mosser for stepping up as new members of the social committee. Please feel free to let them know, along with chairperson’s Don and Terry Rodwancy and committee members, Doug and Candy Shealy about any ideas you may have. This place is…... You complete the sentence. I have mine. Let me know what yours is!

As I begin my term as Fleet Captain of Power, I want to thank the Board for having trust in me to carry out this task in a professional manner. I especially want to thank my wife Kathy who agreed to help me make all of our cruise-outs enjoyable for everyone. With the economy and the price of gas the way they are, I have been in contact with several different clubs and marinas not too far from our home port. Some of these are new to PCYC and some we have not visited for quite some time. Once the schedule is firmed up please take the time to sign up for as many as you can. I look forward to being your Fleet Captain of Power and having a very enjoyable time on our 2011 cruise-outs.

On Friday, November 19, at my request, your flag officers and board member Dr. Mike Hablitzel met with members of the PCYC Planning Committee for roughly an hour to discuss the report submitted by Planning Committee Chairman Dr. Mark Ha-blitzel to the Annual Meeting in early November. With this being my first shot at a Jib Sheet report, I thought it would be appropri-ate to share with you some of the topics covered for projects on the Club grounds. Two minor but important projects are planned for the months to come. First will be the continuation of the ballroom ceiling im-provements into the hallway and into the Kids Room. Second will be a project to put a new roof on the barbecue pit adjacent to the clubhouse. The Planning Committee also submitted several projects for the short term which will soon be evaluated by the Board of Trustees. At the top of the list is the continuation of funding for the “En-cumbered Funds” account for future capital needs. The best way for us to grow that account is to bring in more members as we continue to hover below the maximum 500 level. The next major project which we have already begun looking at is the resurfacing of the Club parking lots, particularly the main lot in front of the Clubhouse entrance. We are getting help from Doug Shealy and several others since to do the job properly will require major improvements to the infrastructure underneath the pavement. We hope to continue to expand the electrical improvements at our marina facility by adding at least 10 more pedestals. Past Commodore Doug Young, the newest member of the Planning Committee has graciously agreed to work with our resident archi-tect, John Luscomb for an expansion of the storage garage. The Sail Fleet was given $10,000 from the estate of Jean Rutan and is considering building a facility for its needs which will also allow more storage area for the Yacht Club as a whole, a growing need. So, as you can see, 2011 could be a very busy year for mainte-nance and improvements of the club facilities. If you would like to help, just let me know. See you at the Recognition Dinner!
