PCYC Jib SheetBy now, you all should

    have received in the mail

    the details of the proposed

    change in PCYC Rules re-

    garding pets, specifically

dogs and cats. At the April

    membership meeting, the

proposal was made in theform of a motion by R.J.

    Basil. After a short period

    of discussion, the motion

was tabled. It will be taken

off the table and voted on

    at our May 2 membership

    meeting. However, it may

    be amended. The funda-

    mental vote will be simply

    about allowing pets on the

grounds. Your board oftrustees has worked long

    and hard looking at guide-

lines. We have asked RJ to

    work with the board to

    tidy up the language in

    the guidelines based on

    feedback from the mem-

bers. Our plan is to provide

    a revised set of guidelines

to go along with the rule

    change for the membership

to review prior to voting.A paper ballot is planned

for a vote of the member-

    ship following discussion.

When it is all over, we will

    all head to the bar!!!

    Thanks to all who at-

    tended the April 21

    Spring Work Party! We

    had outstanding atten-

dance and got a whole lot

    done on the Club

grounds. As I am sure you

have been following theprogress of work on the

    Riverfront of the Club-

    house, much thanks to

    members Sean Kelly, PC

    Rusty Jack and Jim Zipfel

    along with caretaker Eric

    Reynolds and others who

    have been working dili-

    gently to prepare the en-

    tire riverfront for the sum-

    mer season. The board-

    walk along the river has

    been removed.

Be sure to mark the date

    of Saturday, May 25 on

    your calendar for the very

    special Strategic Planning

    meeting in the Ballroom

    starting at 10 a.m. Mem-

    bers and family members

are invited to come andparticipate as we poll the

    membership about what

    projects YOU feel are im-

    portant to undertake in

    the next few years at

    PCYC.

    Where April was a quiet

    month around PCYC,

May is going to be ex-

    tremely busy. It all starts

    with the aforementionedMembership Meeting on

    May 2, The Cinco De

Mayo party on May 3, The

    Captains Fish Fry on Fri-

    day, May 10, the Mothers

    Day Brunch on Sunday,

May 12; the Learn to Sail

    Cookout and Laser Class

on May 17. The Golf out-

ing on May 17 at CIC,

    organized by Mike and

    Shari Beier, will be fol-

lowed by a dinner at the

    Club. Friday, May 18 is

    your chance to welcome

    our new members. We

    have Friday night Snacks

on May 24 as we kick off

    the Memorial Day week-

    end. The Pool officially

    From the Commodore

    MAY 2013

    opens on Saturday, May 25

    followed by a BYOS on

Saturday evening of Memo-rial Day weekend. Then

    there is the traditional Me-

    morial Day Fish Fry. Fi-

    nally, we will again have

    Friday night snacks on May

    31. So, in May there will be

    plenty of reasons to come

    and visit your club!

    Finally, I have instructed

    caretaker Eric to hoist a

special flag that will fly onthe PCYC yardarm

    through the summer. It is

    the official Dont Give Up

    The Ship Bi-Centennial

Flag for the Battle of Lake

    Erie which will be re-

    enacted at the original bat-

tle site by a number of Tall

    Ships the Monday of Labor

    Day weekend. Port Clinton

will be a central focus for

this event with up to threeof the Tall Ships in port

    from August 29 through

    September 2. We will be

    giving the visiting ships a

    cannon salute when they

    arrive on Thursday, August

Its project season! Here is a rundown of the current projects and their status followed by upcoming projects.

Water meter replacement scheduled to start in May

Parking lot the paving is scheduled to start soon. We will do our best to not inconvenience you as this project

    is completed.

Parking Lot sealing and re-striping this was approved by the Board last meeting and typically happens two

weeks after the repairs are made.

Boardwalk excavation phase is complete and the pedestals are being prepared for installation. The consensus

on whether to put the old Boardwalk back temporarily with repairs or leave it gravel has been decided. The areaalong the seawall will be gravel for this season or until we build the new Boardwalk.

Pedestals the Pedestal project is moving along nicely with steady progress being made daily.

Tree trimming and pest control several trees have been thinned to allow more sunlight through. Many of

these same trees were treated to minimize the sap problems we experience from the Cottony Maple Scale. A

more effective method is being used by injecting the trees with a chemical to control the pest.

    New Projects

Pool Bar plans are complete and volunteers are being assembled. This project will begin soon and I still plan

on it being complete prior to the pool opening.

Brick Entry Columns the Board has approved the removal of the columns. The columns were built by Rollieand Bill Lano before the new Clubhouse was constructed is what I am being told. Whereas we appreciate the

effort it took to erect them, they have consistently been identified as a hazard especially since the pool was con-

structed. I am sure most of us have experienced a busy summer day and worried about a child darting out from

behind a column. This is the primary reason for removing the columns. In addition, most of us have experi-

enced near misses or had to wait on a car because it is too narrow. The Board has also approved widening the

road in this area to allow safer traffic flow. This will be done at the same time the parking lot is repaired. The

plaques and Navigation lights have been saved and will be used at a later date when a new entrance is developed.

Irrigation Fred Pachasa and Eric are continuing their quest to irrigate the entire club grounds. Their team

made significant progress last year and hope to complete the network this year. Anyone interested in helping

throughout the summer on this project can contact Eric or Fred for assignments.

Spring Work Party it was quite a chilly start so it took a while to get rolling, but the sun warmed us up and

over 60 members went to work. You all should be very proud of yourselves for what was accomplished on that

cold Sunday. The club is ready for spring picnics, marina activity and the clubhouse is sparkling because of your

efforts. Chuck, Eric and I are amazed and thankful for all that was accomplished.

Those of us that frequent the club know how many hours Eric puts in especially from now until the dock

risers are removed in the fall. Whereas we appreciate his dedication, Chuck, myself and the Board also feel he

deserves time for himself. Starting in May, Eric will be taking Mondays off except for Holidays. All other days he

will be on the grounds at 8am to address any member needs and to accomplish his normal duties. Please remem-

ber though, request for Erics help should be limited to incidental items, reporting something which needs re-

paired or an emergency. All other request, policy or rule complaints, etc should be reported to the Facilities

Manager, Chuck Reichman, a Board Member or a Flag Officer so they may be handled or scheduled in the ap-

    propriate manner.

There was some discussion at the last Membership Meeting relating to the Blue trash cans. This program

started last year where we monitored the usage vs cost of keeping the cans. The Board also surveyed several facili-

ties similar to ours and determined to cut way back on the cans to reduce cost and promote a cleaner look to the

grounds. We understood by making this decision that there would be an adjustment period and a slight incon-

venience for some members. The savings to the club per year is conservatively more than $6000.00 by eliminat-

ing the cans. Please respect the Boards decision and carry your trash to one of two large dumpsters or the cluster

of cans located at the NE corner of the Marina. I thank you in advance for your cooperation and in helping the

club save the money so we can invest it back into the club for everyones benefit.

I would like to commend and thank the parents or Grandparents for their efforts to keep the Activity

room tidied up after a night of fun by the kids. Just want you to know it is being noticed and appreciated.

The Flower committee is looking for volunteers for the summer to help keep the club looking great. Ifgardening is something you like to do; we can use your help. Contact Fred or Diane Pachasa at 419-732-6387 to

    get involved.

The North Shore Shower house is open for business. The three units that face south towards the club are

available at this time and the remainder will be available just before the Memorial Day weekend.

One last thing. Please change my phone number in the back of your yearbook to my cell # 419-541-0724

or contact me at [email protected] for anything I may be able to do for you.
