Prayer to Respect Life Dear Lord, We come before you grateful for the gift of life which you have given us. May we respect it in ourselves by prudent watchfulness and care. May we respect it in others and always defend the cause of the unborn and the unwanted. Give us the courage to stand up for our convictions and not allow life to be taken unjustly. May we look with genuine Christian love and concern upon the sick, the disabled, the infirm, as well as those who bear the burden of years. We are all your creation, Lord. Let us protect and defend life with a respect that is founded upon your everlasting law. We make this prayer through Christ, our Lord. Amen. Prayer to Respect Life

Dear Lord,

We come before you grateful for the gift of life which you have given us. May we respect it in ourselves by

prudent watchfulness and care. May we respect it in others and always defend

the cause of the unborn and the unwanted. Give us the courage to

stand up for our convictions and not allow life to be taken unjustly.

May we look with genuine Christian love and concern upon the sick, the disabled,

the infirm, as well as those who bear the burden of years.

We are all your creation, Lord. Let us protect and defend life with a respect that is founded upon your everlasting law.

We make this prayer through Christ, our Lord.

Amen.

Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time January 28, 2018

FOCUS: God’s desire is to liberate his people so

that they fulfill their holy destiny.

Liberation is at the heart of our Scriptures—a

freedom that will liberate us from worldly anxie-ties and concerns, and from all that might hinder

us in fulfilling our holy mission. Listening to and obeying God’s Word prevents us from hardening

our hearts and distancing ourselves from his pres-ence in our lives.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the first read-

ing, the Lord promises Israel that he will raise up a new prophet, one who will speak with his au-thority. Paul urges the Corinthians to remain free

of worldly anxieties. In Mark’s Gospel, it is the unclean spirit that recognizes Jesus’ true identity

and responds to his commands.

REFLECTION: We have confidence in Jesus’

words. We trust he will continue to be faithful to us as he sends us modern prophets to teach us his

ways by their words and example. Regular reflec-tion on Jesus’ teachings can shape us; help us re-

sist evil and turn towards the good. As the crowds acknowledged that day Jesus taught in the syna-

gogue – his teaching has authority.

So I ask myself: • Whose words and actions have the power to sway

us and call us to righteous living? • Who gives us perspective and a lens through

which to look out at our world to help us find the good and reject the evil?

For Christians, Jesus’ words have such authority for us.

Low-Gluten Communion Hosts We are now offering the option of low-gluten communion hosts. To receive a low-gluten host, please contact a priest or deacon and let them know your desire by visiting the Sacristy at least 5 minutes before Mass. Thank you.

Family life is something worthwhile; a society grows stronger and better,

it grows in beauty and it grows in truth, when it rises

on the foundation of the family.

Pope Francis

Openness to others reflects our openness to the Lord. It is he, the one with an open heart, the only one who can open a space for peace in our hearts, that peace which makes us open to others.

January 28, 2018 CUARTO DOMINGO TIEMPO ORDINARIO
