Several projects, notable among them being the Chembur Green project at Trombay and the afforestation of Thal have been highly successful. RCF has invested substantially in pollution abatement schemes at Trombay and Thal through technology upgradation. RCF has won several awards for pollution control and clean technology. Notable awards being the Indira Gandhi Memorial award for Pollution Control and the Rajiv Gandhi Award for Clean Technology awarded to Thal.

RCF has been an MOU signing Company since 1988-89. The Company was rated EXCELLENT for the years 1989-90, 1997-98, 1998-99, 1999-2000, 2000-01, 2002-03 and 2003-04 and VERY GOOD for the remaining years. The Company also received MERIT CERTIFICATE for excellence in the Achievement of MOU targets for the year 1998-99, 1999-2000, 2000-01 and 2002-03.

Kaizen

Kaizen means improvement. The core principal of kaizen is to make small, immediate improvements in the processes and standards of the workplace. It means small improvements done consistently over a long period of time. If you integrate the kaizen principles into your workplace, you will see noticeable improvements right away, and great improvements in the long term.

House keeping practices in any company reflect the management’s general attitude towards work. Neatness and cleanliness of workplace has become an important requirement. Modern developments call for high level of process accuracy, dust free atmosphere, proper maintenance, clean habits, understanding and proper training of employees towards workplace management. With an objective to creating a new organizational culture Five S has now a day become a management philosophy. Five S is the silent informer of a company’s attitude towards quality. Hence Five S has gained paramount importance. A clean factory always impresses everyone and also helps to create confidence on the quality of product and product marketed.

Quality Circle

Quality Circle is a small group consisting of concerned personnel associated with a particular function. The group aims at identifying all the associated problems. Its systematic analysis using problem solving tools and techniques of Quality Circle so as to reach to the root cause of the problem and finding out probable solutions, selection of an ultimate one, working out the action plan for implementation of the solution in order to that the function is performed to the possible perfection.

Quality Circle a technique for bringing improvement in the existing systems and practices still has not lost relevance even after two decades of arrival in India. QC came to India in 1981 when BHEL,

Hyderabad established the first Quality Circle. QC started its functioning at RCF Ltd. Mumbai in 1988 and has been growing steadily. We are having more than 60 Quality Circles functioning at Trombay and Thal Units. It has been instrumental in solving about 450 problems restructuring and a saving of approximately Rs.16 crores for the organization.

Lean QC

'Lean' simply means a systematic approach to identifying all types of waste and optimum utilization of available resources, continuous improvement, ensuring smooth flow of the product in the supply and manufacturing chain and meeting customers demand/satisfaction.In short, 'Lean' is about “doing more with less” – less inventory, less time, less space, less movement, less man hours and with less money. Lean is speed with which one can deliver a quality product or service by 'doing a job right first time'.Lean Quality Circle is a cross functional team for non executives/officer/middle level manager and projects taken up may be interdepartmental in nature, in order to see that the annual goals of the organization are jointly met. This concept was implemented in few organizations on trial basis in Units of Parle & NTPC, a case study portraying the problem solving techniques using LQC methodology were presented in the Board Meeting held in September, 2010 and was well appreciated.
