Introduction to Abaqus/CAE Presented by: Clive Ford, WorleyParsons Pte Ltd Venue: LT2, National University of Singapore Date: 7 th March 2008 Time: 3.00pm to 5.00pm, Abaqus/CAE is the only dedicated user interface for the Abaqus Unified FEA suite. It allows users to quickly and efficiently create, edit, monitor, diagnose, and visualise advanced Abaqus analyses. This seminar will give a brief overview of the key features of Abaqus/CAE and provide a foundation for new users to Abaqus/CAE, as well as offering more experienced users with a number of hints and tips that will enable them to become more efficient and productive. Advantages: The Abaqus/CAE interface is highly intuitive and integrates modelling, analysis, job management, and results visualization in a consistent, easy-to-use environment that is simple to learn for new users yet highly productive for experienced users. Abaqus/CAE uses familiar computer aided engineering concepts such as feature-based, parametric modelling, interactive and scripted operation, and GUI customisation. Abaqus/CAE supports a wide range of mesh and element types suitable for most Abaqus analysis applications. Top-down and bottom-up meshing techniques are available and support 3D Tet and Hex elements, 2D Quads and Tri elements and many special elements types. Abaqus/CAE allows analysts to easily access the powerful simulation capabilities of the Abaqus solvers. Laminated composite materials can be defined easily using the new composite layup manager and Abaqus’s powerful contact analysis capabilities are facilitated by an Abaqus/CAE interface which can automatically identify contact pairs; for instance the time to create the contact conditions in the brake assembly shown here was reduced from several hours to a matter of minutes. Abaqus/CAE even extends its modelling support to Fluid Structure Interaction and the new Coupled Eulerian Lagrangian solver.

Date: 7th March 2008 Time: 3.00pm to 5.00pm,

Abaqus/CAE is the only dedicated user interface for

the Abaqus Unified FEA suite. It allows users to quickly and efficiently create, edit, monitor, diagnose, and visualise advanced Abaqus analyses. This seminar will give a brief overview of the key features of Abaqus/CAE and provide a foundation for new users to

Abaqus/CAE, as well as offering more experienced users with a number of hints and tips that

will enable them to become more efficient and productive.

Abaqus/CAE makes post-processing and visualisation of Abaqus analysis results exciting and is highly effective at providing visual insights into the performance of a product or process that has been simulated.

About the Presenter:

Clive Ford is the Manager of the Advanced Analysis Group at WorleyParsons Pte Ltd. This group provides a high-end analysis capability within WorleyParsons and to external clients across Asia Pacific. WorleyParsons Advanced Analysis Group has also been the regional representative of the Abaqus Finite Element software suite for many years. Since joining the group in 2002, Clive has worked with customers across a broad range of

industries including analysts in the Automotive, Electronics, and Offshore industries and various Research teams across Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Previously he worked at British Steel in the UK, in engineering

and production groups and gained considerable experience of Abaqus using it to analyse and enhance hot rolling processes. As a committee member of the local branch of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers he is active in promoting Engineering awareness and skills in Singapore.
