SUMMER SCIENCE ACADEMY (OFFERED DURING SUMMER SEMESTER ONLY) SEC A: July 31 – Aug 10 SEC B: Aug 14 – Aug 24 MORNING CLASSES 9:30AM-11:30AM: Intro to Human Anatomy for ages 8-12 Using skeletons and models, students explore basic human anatomy, concentrating on the ways in which body parts fit together to influence how we move, function and carry out every day physiologic processes. Sec A: M-Th 9:30-11:30am, #5958 Sec B: M-Th 9:30- 11:30am, #5959 Go Green! For ages 8-12 This class will infuse the study of science and art. Students will engage in hands-on activities and art projects, while raising awareness about environmental issues. The students will create projects that encourage them to think critically about recycling, conservation, our world and the environmental footprint that is being left behind. Sec A: M-Th 9:30-11:30am, #5960 Sec B: M-Th 9:30-11:30am, #5964 The Science of Forensics: What’s Behind CSI? For ages 13-17 Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes at CSI? Here’s your chance to become an investigator, explore mock crime scenes, collect evidence, and undercover hidden clues. Sec A: 9:30-11:30am, #5965 Sec B: 9:30-11:30am, #5967 AFTERNOON CLASSES 12:00PM- 2:00PM: The Scientist as Detective—for ages 8-12 Students will learn how to problem solve and investigate scientific issues. They will determine what questions to ask, what procedures to follow, how to collect, organize and interpret data based on their experiments. Sec A: M-Th 12:00-2:00pm, #5970 Sec B: M-Th 12:00-2:00pm, #5971 The Scientific Method—for ages 8-12 This class will provide the opportunity for students to ask questions, form hypotheses, design & perform experiments, make observations, collect data, & draw conclusions. Sec A: M-Th 12:00-2:00pm, #5976 Sec B: M-Th 12:00-2:00pm, #5577 The World of Emergency Medicine – for ages 13-17 Come and explore the responsibilities & rewards of being an emergency medicine professional. Sec A: 12:00-2:00pm, #5578 Sec B: 12:00-2:00pm, #5579 For those who select a day-long experience, a 30-minute supervised lunch is scheduled between morning and afternoon sessions (student-provided lunch).
