Global Process Air Solutions8

Centrifugal Impeller vs. Mixed-flow Impeller

• Advanced mixed flow wheel design combines axial and centrifugal technologies.

• Air passes through mixed flow wheel at 45 DEG angle.

• Turbulence is lower for 45 DEG wheel compared to 90 DEG (radial) wheel.

• Low turbulence means higher efficiency over radial wheel.

• Flow capability of mixed flow wheel is 2-3 higher than a radial wheel with same diameter

Rotating Assembly

• One Piece Chrome-Moly alloy steel pinion Shaft

• Impeller material available

– Stainless Steel

• 120% overspeed tested as standard

• Balancing Procedure:

– Pinion Separately

– Impeller Separately

– Trim balance of complete assembly.

Fixed Diffuser Vanes

• Machined vaned diffuser - not pin-on vanes.

• High efficiency realized with fully developed flow through impeller and diffuser.

Page 11: Ingersoll Rand Low Pressure Solutions - Energy Davar

Global Process Air Solutions11

• High corrosion resistance is standard with stainless steel vanes.

• Minimum of moving parts - assures high reliability.

• Mounted vane angle position indicator.

• Mounted integral to the compressor.

Typical Competitive Equipment

• Very complex construction

• Many, Many more moving parts

Global Process Air Solutions13

• Unique wind-back labyrinth seal design.

• Air seal completely separate from gear case to ensure 100% oil free air.

• Oil seal incorporates an oil slinger ring, a labyrinth seal on the outboard casing side. This prevents oil migration along shaft out of gear case.

Air and Oil Seal

Global Process Air Solutions14

• Horizontally split for quick and easy assembly / disassembly.

• Tilting pad design for excellent stability at high speeds.

• Field replaceable tilting pads for easy maintenance.

• Embedded RTD’s in pads are available as an option.

Gears / Thrust Collars

• Integral thrust collars transfer aerodynamic and gear thrust loads to the bullgear to improve reliability and reduce parasitic horsepower losses

• Bullgear and bullgear shaft are integral forging.

• Bullgear made of carbon steel (AISI 1045).

Page 16: Ingersoll Rand Low Pressure Solutions - Energy Davar

Global Process Air Solutions16

• Input shaft oil seal consists of oil slinger ring and reverse thread labyrinth on shaft with labyrinth seal on gearcase.

• Oil seal is horizontally split.

• Driver side bullgear bearing is horizontally split radial journal bearing with integral fixed tilted pad thrust bearings.

Input Shaft Seals

• Gear-rotor type pump.

• Mounted on and driven by Input shaft for reliable operation and ensures lubrication to bearings in vent of power failure.

• Oversized to ensure adequate lubrication to all components.

FGD System Schematic

Wet FGD System

• Sulfur in the flue gas is “captured” by the limestone spray

• Droplets collect in the slurry at the bottom of the absorber and react with the oxygen in the water to form Calcium Sulfate (Gypsum)

• Blowers are used to provide air (oxygen) for the appropriate reaction to occur.

CX 45 Combustion Air Blower

The blower shown is installed in a Refinery in Longview, Washington USA.

The blower in this application supplies combustion air to a Sulfur Recovery Unit (SRU). This is a very common application used in almost every refinery.

CX35 Combustion Air Blower

Capacity : 9,000 icfm @ 18 psig (700HP) Location : Franklin, Louisiana

The blower shown is installed at Cabot Corporation in Franklin, Louisiana.

Again, this blower is supplying combustion air, but this time to a Carbon Black manufacturing process. In this process oil is burned under very controlled conditions and the burn carbon that is produced is used for various inks and toners.

CX35 Aeration Blower

Capacity : 9,000 icfm @ 14 psig (600HP) Location : Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

This installation photo illustrates the proper installation of a CX Blower. Note the isolation joints at the inlet and outlet of the machine. These are used to isolate the machine from thermal expansion of the piping system and the blower housing.
