Week 3 All children 8.45 a.m.– 1.00 p.m. This includes lunch.
Week 4 All in, all day!
Curriculum:• Continuation of nursery Early Years curriculum• Play based framework • 7 Areas of Learning – 3 Prime Areas: Personal
Social Emotional Development, Communication and Language, Physical Development.
• 4 Specific Areas - Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, Expressive Arts and Design
• Achievement and attainment recorded in Learning Journeys and termly progress recorded and analysed
• Supported by dialogue on the characteristics of effective teaching and learning: playing and exploring, active learning, creative and critical thinking – ‘how to be a learner’

Focused learning may include:• 20 – 30 minutes, whole class, small
group, paired, individual• Daily phonics• Writing for different purposes• Handwriting and letter formation• Reading skills• Number, calculation, shape, space
and measures• Thinking skills• Circle time – speaking and listening,
social skills
School meals and snacks:
• All infant children are entitled to a free hot meal
• Booked using Parent Pay• UIFSM – all to complete a
form• Milk and fruit – provided by
school for snack time (milk until children are 5, fruit throughout)
Reporting to parents:
• Parent workshop starting in Term 2. 8.45 a.m. – 9.15 a.m. A chance to learn about the school curriculum.
• Terms 3 and 4 less regular• Regular opportunity to share Learning Journeys
and books• Formal parents evening every 2 terms• Written reports 3 times a year• If you need to talk please make an
appointment • Text2Parents scheme – we text parents
reminders about celebrations, sports days etc.
Access to school:• Through designated footpaths and
entrances to playground in the morning and at end of school day
• Drive slowly!• During school day via main entrance• Safety codeword (letters are in
induction pack for you to notify us of your security password for other adults when you give permission for them to pick up your child)
Safeguarding:
• Duty of Care to protect children
• Letter in induction pack to sign
• Observe, talk, action
Supporting at home:• Talk and question – ask children to talk about their day• Skills to share – what skills do you have as parents i.e. Face
painting, cake maker!• Reading books and reading diaries – these diaries will be
given out during Term 1• Homework – reading at first, phonics and handwriting practise• Independence – finding name for self registration, hanging up
coats, packing and unpacking belongings, practising tricky fastenings, dressing and undressing self
• Workshops – 8.45 – 9.45 a.m. Focus on areas of learning and opportunity to contribute to Learning Journey and some with children
• Friday celebration Assembly for reception parents only in term 2– 8:45 – 9:00 (parents welcome to celebrate the weeks achievements)
Support for and from The Croft Primary School
• Local Board of Governors – meet 6 times a year, communication and challenge for leadership
• Parent Teacher Association - Look for creative ways to work with the school community to support children’s learning and the development of the growing school.
• Please feel welcomed to communicate with any of us: on the playground, by letter in the school post box or by email on
Behaviour and discipline/Values Based Education:
• Focus on learning behaviours – e.g. Resilience, resourcefulness
• Positive affirmations of appropriate behaviour – e.g. Thankyou for listening, well done for sticking at that tricky task

Points to note:
• Attendance and punctuality• Absence requests– see policy given out
during home visits• Sickness – please call when you are able
to on morning of illness• Headlice – it happens!• Toilet accidents! – they happen too!
Please send spare pants and we will call if it needs a mum or dads hands!
• Getting messy happens!
