    A WEEK

Friday 13th November is Children in Need day and we hope you have all risen to the challenge and used a blue theme as your non-uniform to support the Anti Bullying #Wearitblue Campaign.

BBC Look North have been in touch and they are filming our Year 8 three legged walk this year...it goes without saying the best costumes make it onto the telly!

Whether you are donating to not wear your uniform, dressing up and taking part in the three legged race, building Pudseys from loose change, holding or buying something from a bake sale or taking part in a Children in Need event outside of school...thank you and well done. Last year, we raised 3163.95...can we do better this year? Next weeks in-form will be full of photos from the day and the total you raised.

We recently asked you what you thought of in

-form, what you liked, disliked and what

improvements you wanted to see. Thank you

to all of you who answered the survey; we

had a fantastic response from all years and

would like to share the results with you.

    You talked we listened!

Thank you for all your comments on how in-form can be improved. The message is loud and clear, you want more news and to contribute more!

    Its already amazing!

A higher number of articles per week from a wider variety of school

    subject areas.

before in-form is published, an email should be sent out asking

for any student achievements, that way it's easier to get your achievements in in-form.

Could you include an opinion section?

I think it's great but I think you should say to other students who

don't know that you can email articles to be included in in-

form. I'm not sure if any of my tutor group are aware that you

    can do this.

I think there should be a bit more on the teachers!

I would like it to be open for

everyone to add and give in articles.

Maybe have subject specific pages, sport success, languages, art or a

    different page for each year?

More things about how students have been getting on and what clubs you can join

and when theyre on. the only way you can figure out about that now is by going to the clubs fair that only happens

    once a year.

Look out in next weeks in-form for details on how you can contribute.

Coming Up...Coming Up...Coming Up...Coming Up...Coming Up.. Friday 13th November Children in Need #Wearitblue! Friday 20th November Takeover Day Wednesday 18th November KS3 Ski Trip Information Evening, B Hall, 7pm Monday 30th November Review Day

Stay Safe Now the clocks have gone back, and both mornings and evenings are darker, there is a real need for you to be alert and aware when crossing the road on the way to and from school. The roads around Ilkley, and particularly around school, can be busy around drop off and pick up times. Please remember the following when crossing the road:

Wait at the kerb by the crossing so that drivers know you want to cross At a signal crossing, press the button and wait for the green man to light up and never walk out while

the red man is showing, even if the cars have stopped or other people are crossing Always walk over the actual black and white stripes of a crossing - many accidents happen around

crossings Never cross the road while using your mobile phone or while listening to music on head phones Stay alert at all times, remember cyclists and motorcyclists use the roads as well as drivers

Can we also remind you that the exit onto Springs Lane (by the Sports Hall) is for vehicles only. It is not to be used as a pedestrian route. This is particularly important when you are leaving the premises when an after school activity has ended. As a pedestrian you cannot be seen by cars on this small and concealed vehicle route.

Quote Me! Do you remember, before summer, we asked you to send in your best quotes that represented your tie values? The best quotes have been used for a new display in school. Take a look next time you are on B Floor (just outside the Maths Office). We used:

    Resilient Participator

    Happy Tolerant

    Aspirational Courageous

to form the first of our Vision and Values displays. Keep your eyes peeled for more quote posters as they appear around school over the next few weeks.

On Saturday 7th November four teams from IGS travelled to Chesterfield to run in the second round of the ESAA cross country cup competition. All of the teams were eyeing up a top three finish in their age category to achieve a record third consecutive trip for IGS to the national final, this year held in Bedford on the 5th December.

The inter girls team, consisting of only Year 9s in a Year 9/10 category, got the day off to a flying start with a 2nd place for Bethan Morley (9PDH). She was supported by Rachel Scott (9PDH) 11th, Ella Shouler-Harris (9SL) 17th, Elise Crabtree (9DSF) 25th and Hannah Marshall (9PB) 41st. With a team score of 55 they qualified in 3rd place, securing their ticket to the final!

The junior boys and junior girls team finished in 7th (out of 13) and 6th (out of 12) respectively. These races were very competitive and despite very tough weather conditions there were some stand out performances from Adam Mitchell (8AMB) 8th and Caitlin Oddie (8AMB) 9th. Similarly to the first race, Adam and Caitlin were joined by some hardy IGS pupils who fought through the wind and the rain. Bernadette Raven (8PO), Ella Hammond (8ELC), Katie Meredith (8RRG), Charlotte Elston (7TJB), Reuben Foster (8ELC), Ashley Leach (7FEA), Nathan Coy (7FEA), Archie Minto (8AMB) and Tom Jackson (8AMB).

The race day concluded with an outstanding performance from the IGS inter boys team. Dominic Coy (9SP), a younger runner within the category finished in an impressive 3rd. Cameron Reilly (10JB) quickly followed in 6th; George Dey (10MWC) 11th; Joe Haigh (10LV) put in a sprint finish to 14th place; Robbie Matthews (9PB) 17th and Harry Barker (10MEK) in 22nd. With a great team score IGS were already celebrating prior to the announcement of the 2nd place overall. Four weeks of additional running practice with Mr Carr and Mrs Knowles now await these finalist. Good luck!

Congratulations to Emily Field (9LAM) who took part in the Southampton Invitational Diving Competition last weekend. Due to a previous elbow injury this was Emilys first platform competition for 18 months in which she has been able to dive from the higher boards. She performed in the 14/15 age group. It was a large field made up of some of the best divers in the country. After 5 of 7 dives, with some excellent diving, she was in 5th position but dropped to 13th after her penultimate dive failed to go to plan. Emily was pleased with her overall performance and will look to improve in the next competition.

Good luck to Miss Davies (PE) who heads off to America on Monday to compete in the Weightlifting World Championships.

Netball News Its been a mixed bag of results this week for our netball teams. Our Senior A Team beat Titus Salt School on Monday, 28-4 but the U15s lost to Parkside 32-9 on the same day. The U15 Player of the match was awarded to Kirsty McMillan (10MEK).

Well done to our U13 girls football team who took part in their central venue fixtures on Tuesday night. They won all 3 of their matches and played brilliantly. Player of the night went to Ella Hammond.

Well played to our 1st XV rugby team who competed against Queen Elizabeth Grammar School (QEGS) in the third round of the NatWest Cup on Wednesday 11th November. The full squad played on top form: Will Rice-Birchall (12EM); Tom Newton (12RN); Sam Crocombe (12SSS); Rory Milligan (13AH); Josh Bye (13DK); Rowan Barker (12SSS); Cam McIntyre (12AJK); Ben Pickersgill (13EM), Louis Rose-Fall (12TG); George Pickersgill (13EM); Ben Lulham-Robinson (12SLG); Joe Hawdon (13NPG); Henry Illingworth (13EM); Sam Hadfield (12PPB); Tom Atkinson (12JLP); Louis Brow (11SLL); Harry Smith (11BJS); Finley Meegan (11JI); Ben Illingworth (11LO); Charlie Franks (11HGW) and Will Langan (11AHF). Unfortunately luck wasnt on our side and the match finished QEGS 29-10 IGS.

Its a 10 from IGS! Whilst the country is embracing this years Strictly Come Dancing series, IGS has their very own ballroom champion to celebrate. Meg Lenehan (12PPB) has just competed in the annual National ISTD Ballroom and Latin Grand Finals at The Winter Gardens Empress Ballroom in Blackpool. Competing in the Junior Gold Star Ballroom and Latin events on Saturday 31st October, Meg danced the Tango in Ballroom to be awarded 1st place. She also danced the Rumba in Latin on the same grade to be awarded 4th place. Sunday was another day of competition in which she reached the semi finals of the Sequence 3 Dance. Overall, a fantastic weekend for Meg and what a culmination for all her hard work. Meg has been a student of Windsor Ballroom in Bradford since she was 8 years old and has studied the ISTD Dance Syllabus in Modern Ballroom, Latin and Sequence Dance taking annual examinations in all these disciplines. Over the past few years, Meg has assisted in the Dance School helping both the children and adult classes. She also danced with the younger pupils at Blackpool. Well done Meg!
