Football First XVIII Adrian Rocco CBC SIC 11.15.81 def. CBC 7.12.54

All Ignatians at the game would have come away very proud of each and every one of the boys. They played their hearts out against very good opposition and were rewarded with a hard fought victory. Darcy McDonald & Noah Black were outstanding and our leaders including Tom Daw, Nat Swan, Tom Schell and Jamie Taylor all played well rolling through the midfield. Special mention goes to our captain Matt Griffin who played well and displayed great courage to play the last 3 quarters with a leg injury. Jack Sexton was terrific in the backline & Lachie Boots was very good as a small forward & midfielder. It was a complete team effort with all boys having good moments. Best Players: Darcy McDonald, Noah Black, Tom Daw, Nat Swan, Jamie Taylor, Lachie Boots, Tom Scholl, Tom Wilson and Jack Sexton

Football Second XVIII Zach Brogan & Mr Hauschild

CBC SIC 9.12.66 def. CBC 4.10.34

We were undermanned in wet conditions, making for a tough day of footy against a tough team in CBC. Fortunately, we were able to get off to a quick lead early with four goals from Lombardi in the opening quarter. Injuries saw us playing with sixteen men on the field at times, and CBC responded but we were able to hang on and finish well with a four-quarter performance. Most impressive was how we maintained structure and did not get caught ball watching, which enabled us to repel many pushes forward by CBC. Best Players: Josh Davis, Alex Moulds, Henry Schultz, Tom Lowry, Will Gregory

Football Year 10 Peter Hogan Westminster SIC 4.4.28 def. by Westminster 16.14.110

Igs went down to a talented and determined Wminster on Saturday. With injuries and illness causing major structural changes in the team, we were still no match for their height and strength and they deserved their win. The first qtr was an even tussle but thereafter Westminster slowly took the game away from us. Alexander, in a breakout game, and Vice-Captain Mercurio played 4 quarters but too many were patchy and we were exposed for lack of fitness and attack at the contest. Leydon tried hard when in midfield, Centenara, Nickels and Bradley showed courage playing key position roles and Hodges, Whiford and Blefari had moments. Best Players: Alexander, Mercurio, Leydon, Nickels and Centenara

Football Year 9 Evan Maxwell Sacred Heart

SIC 9.10.64 def. SHC 5.2.32

Slippery conditions created ball handling a little tricky. Our spread to make space, kicking to teammates in better positions was encouraging. Our 2nd and 3rd efforts and willingness to support each other in the wet conditions was very pleasing. Darcy across half back rebounded most attacks setting up scoring opportunities was best afield. Overall a very solid effort by all the boys, all contributing. Thanks to Sacred Heart who gave us 2 players each quarter to allow 16 aside game. Best Players: Emerson, Holt, Britten-Jones, Kelly

Football Open 8 Mr Ziesing Pembroke SIC 5.6.36 def. by Pembroke 6.7.43

I am genuinely in a state of shock after the match. We played brilliantly in the first quarter, kicking 5.3 to nothing. Yet, we could only manage 3 points for the rest of the match. As I said to the players at the end, they lost it in their head. Too many stopped working and allowed Pembroke to gain confidence and we never responded. Players could have been much better defensively, not picking up their players and too many left it to someone else to do the hard work. A hard lesson to learn, but one that each player must never forget. Goals: Chris 3, Angelo 1, Francesco 1. Best Players: Chris, Brae and Angelo.

Football Year 7 Paul Kelly St Michaels SIC 24.13.157 def. STM 1.0.6

Coaches Prescott, Kelly and Ferrari were astounded by the way this team of young men immediately got around each other and played as a team in true Ignatian style. The independent adjudicator of best players, Tim Rice, certainly had his work cut out for him and found it most difficult to nominate five young men. He was heard to comment that any one of the 15 boys could have been on that list. Coach Will Ferrari observed, quite correctly, that the ball getters were immediately looking to involve their team mates to work the ball through the goals. This can be seen in the numerous goal scorers. Best Players: Max Barilla, Nick Holt, Ben Hogan, Jim Kelly, Saxon Nickels

Soccer Second XI Matthew Sodano

Marryatville SIC 2 def. Marryatville 0

Credit to the boys for a great start to the season. Even with limited time playing together, we already looked like a team in our first match as we were able to deal with a strong Marryatville side comfortably. Two cracking goals from Khai and Jackson were the result of a very disciplined midfield who always played the percentages and a solid defence who limited the oppositions chances. There is still work to be done at training if we want to continue our form. Goals: J Fortunatow, K. Dinh Best Players: O. Sommarvia, O. Popping, K. Dinh, L. Restas, J. Fortunatow, S. Signh

SIC (1-3-92) def. by Marryatville (5/10/134)

Saturday was a good reminder that we had moved up a league. Marryatville had a very solid team full of many skilled players. Unlike the past, the girls could not win without executing a range of technically difficult shots. However, this is something that Kim Nguyen managed to achieve, even with an inflamed eye! Special mention should also go to Erin Goh, who played incredibly well to win some games off her scarily good opponent. Overall, I am happy with

Badminton Senior C1 Mara Pilla SDPC 2 SIC 2.5.108 def. by SDPC 4.13.184

Senior C1 Green played their first game for the season against St Dominic’s. Despite the strength and experience of their opponent, our girls played with increasing confidence and demonstrated great potential for the season. We thank Fiona Yang for her assistance both in singles and doubles.

Badminton Senior C2 Stella Waugh SDPC 3 SIC 2-8-153 def. by SDPC 10-147

Krystal was an outstanding player today. She outplayed her opponent by careful placement of shots at the critical points in her games. Emily played a strategic game but narrowly lost to a very strong experienced player. Amazing improvement displayed by all team members. We fought bravely until the end and narrowly lost as a cohesive team. Everyone should be proud. We came out better in points but unfortunately they came out just a bit better in games and sets. It took a second for our girls to get used to being back but once they did they were able to get onto a roll. As they become more and more comfortable in their games, with more on-court movement and a bit more energy, we should find more success in upcoming games.

Badminton Middle C1 Austin Waugh MMC 1 SIC 4-11-159 def. MMC 2-6-139

A very strong performance from the girls helped the girls with the first win of the new season. Everyone was very supportive of one another, and they found the weaknesses in the opposition’s game. It was great to see such enthusiasm and dedication to each game. Doubles #1 - Tinara & Ruby - 11-5, 11-2, 11-4 Doubles #2 - Lauren & Anh - 12-10, 11-5, 1-3 Singles #1 - Ruby - 7-11, 11-4, 11-7 Singles #2 - Mudita - 1-11, 5-11, 5-11 Singles #3 - Angela - 7-11, 11-5, 8-11 Singles #4 - Lauren - 12-10, 11-7, 13-11 Best Players: Ruby Krolikowski-Angelino

Badminton Middle C2 Uyen Nguyen Nazareth SIC (5 rubbers) def. Nazareth (1 rubber)

The girls played really well, winning overall by a large margin over Nazareth 1; 5 wins, 1 loss. The team demonstrated great communication and strength over their opponents in their first ever game together, which impressed me greatly. Their support for another and friendliness already demonstrates the cohesiveness of the team. Best players: Rain and Emily

Netball Open B1 Kaitlyn Bryce Mercedes 4 SIC 37 def. Mercedes 5

A dominant performance by the Open A's in conditions that didn't necessarily favour our team’s strengths of short, fast and explosive movements. But nonetheless, after a slippery start the girls quickly found their rhythm in attack and put the pressure on with smothering defensive work. An overall great first win!

Netball Open B2 Kaitlyn Bryce MMC 1 SIC 19 def. by MMC 21

A very close game and a tough tussle in unfavourable weather conditions. The girls attack was perfection given the slippery conditions, they played in a controlled, safe and efficient manner all the way to goal. And the defensive end were dogged and determined the entire game, the perfect combo. Today wasn’t our day for the W but I sense very soon we'll get our revenge.

What a great start to the season! Everyone played a fantastic game today and put in a load of effort right to the end. Our defenders were intercept machines and got a heap of rebounds giving us plenty of opportunity to get up in the game. Our mid court worked hard towards the ball and applied pressure down the court to create turnovers. Our shooters were up against some very tall defenders but were able to work hard to get around them and present a front option as well as getting their own rebounds for a second shot. Excellent game and result overall today!

Netball Open B4 Ms Besanko Kildare 1 SIC 37 def. Kildare 20

A strong first performance from this committed group. The defensive pressure in the mid court from Annabel, Molly and Emma was consistently outstanding, and helped Hannah and Emma to make many effective turnovers in the circle. Tahlia, Abi and Alex were a dynamic and destructive force in attack, moving the ball and scoring very quickly. A very impressive statement to start the season girls!

Netball Open C5 Bianca Parletta

SAC 2 SIC 17 def. SAC 15

Amazing win! Holly was a standout player in defence. She continued to intercept the ball and make strong leads down the centre third. Harriet adapted well in a position she’s not familiar with, being a valuable player in C. All the girls responded well to feedback and placed solid defensive pressure on their opposition. Well done girls!

It was a very close game and the girls worked well as a team. Isabella and Grace positioned themselves well in the circle, enabling their players to pass to them with ease. Georgia and Chloe showed great game awareness by leading in opposite directions from each other to give their players more options. They also positioned themselves well around the circle to aid their shooters. Alice and Alessia were strong in defence, always raising their hands to block goals. Despite losing, the girls played an excellent team game and always remained postive.

Netball Open C7 Fiona Luu MMC 3 SIC 5 def. by MMC 42

We had a rough start to the season with the girls playing against a tall opposition. However, the score does not truly reflect the versatility and determination demonstrated on court. Most players were willing to step outside their comfort zones and play a variety of different positions. The girls also fought hard throughout the game and we exhibited strong defensive pressure. However, we need to continue working on leading and receiving the ball in front of our player, rather than calling for a pass from behind.

The girls started the game slowly and were not able to find the momentum in the first quarter. However, the girls stepped up their game in the second quarter and managed to slow down our opponent’s scoring rate. Despite the wet conditions, the girls were running hard and giving their best. It was a great effort by the girls even though we went down to Marryatville. We will come back stronger next week so keep your head up girls!

Netball Open C9 Joyce Laroza SAC 3 SIC 20 def. SAC 12

A great start to the new season, the girls were able to maintain a strong lead throughout the whole game. Although the Saint Aloysius girls were able to keep up with the quick flow of the game our girls managed to adapt maintaining the pressure the tightening our defence. Overall, a great first game and a honourable mention to both Alyssa and Isabella for setting up some strong plays across the court

The score of this game doesn’t reflect the hard work and improvement the girls showed this week. We were really impressed with the girl’s defensive pressure over the court and their continual encouragement to each other during the game. However, we still need to improve on our passing, especially in the goal circle as well as creating space across the whole court. A great first effort girls! Well done! We had a great start to the season on Saturday, coming away with a win against Mary Mackillop. The game was fairly level for the first half and we did well to increase our lead in the second. Without a few set shooters in the team, the girls have had to be versatile, and I was most impressed with how Maisie and Jordan stepped up into the shooting positions to accompany Sarah on the weekend. The fight for the ball and the effective responses to feedback lead to a great first win for the team.

Netball Year 9 B2 Laura Magliaro

Kildare 2 SIC 4 def. by Kildare 20

The girls came out firing in the first quarter, scoring the majority of the goals however as the game progressed we were unable to capitalise on turnover ball. Passing errors and crowding also made it difficult for us to move the ball into our attaching third. Special mention to Anne who despite not being a defender played the majority of the game out of position and picked up a handful of intercepts. Poppy and Jorja also played an excellent game providing excellent pressure over the ball and fighting for the ball until the last whistle. Onwards and upwards!

Netball Year 9 C3 Lauren Schell SDPC 1 SIC def. SDPC 1

The girls worked well together. Leading and sticking to your player were two major focuses for today’s game, and the girls completed them very well. Although the game got off to a rough start, the girls stuck it out and managed to win! Looking forward to see how the rest of the season goes!

Netball Year 9 C4 Lauren Schell Unley 2 The girls had a great start to the season, winning their first game by a good margin. Everyone worked well as a team, with communication being a big contributor to how the game progressed. The girls began and ended strong in this game, with consistent efforts throughout the whole duration. The pressure applied from the defensive end allowed us to gain a couple of turnovers that ultimately assisted us in getting ahead on the score board. The movement by the shooters was fantastic and the mid court worked just as hard. A few movement issues to still work on but overall an awesome start to the season!

Netball Year 8 C4 Carla Lnadolfi MMC 2 SIC def. MMC A fantastic start to the netball season with the team securing a win. Considering we had new players to netball and not much training, the girls were able to work as a team to move the ball around the court successfully. Despite a depleted circle defence, all the girls played very strongly against a smooth, attacking opposition. However, with a last quarter win there were promising signs going forward in our attack and our mid-court defence was able to create a number of turnovers we were just unable to capitalise on. Very exciting things to come as the girls get used to playing together and our first win of the season is not far away.

Netball Year 7 B2 Mr Noack Cabra 3 SIC 20 def. Cabra 0

A great first up win for the girls. All girls made consistent positive contributions throughout the game. Our ball use was good in wet conditions especially when we used short sharp passes and came forward to the ball. Our defensive pressure through the midcourt was excellent which allowed our defenders to intercept a lot of pressured passes. Overall, a great first game.

Netball Year 7 C3 Nat Subelli MMC 3 SIC def. MMC A win was a great way to kick the season off! The girls click together well as a team, making a good atmosphere on and off the court on game day. In a very entertaining and exciting match SIC Div 2 defeated Pembroke, 3 rubbers, 8 games, 152 points to 1 rubber, 4 games, 139 points. All boys tried hard to apply the strategies discussed prior to the match. Max Floreani played with considerable flair, applied athleticism and with a shot selection that is not in any coaching hand book 15-11, 15-12, 9-15. Alex Moulds commendably tried very hard to adapt to the changing game situation but in future, will need to try a variety of strategies to manoeuvre his opposite number out of the centre position. 10-15, 6-15, 10-15. Jack Alfred was very consistent and

The Middle Years B4 Table Tennis team showed great determination this week to win their match against Pembroke. Every player demonstrated improvement in their serves and general game play. All doubles pairings communicated effectively to win their rubbers. Singles players competed well, with lost games having a closer margin than the first week.
