News BytesTechRepublic Opinion Piece10 IT job roles that are hardest to fill (April, 2012)IT trainer Requires a unique skill set and often a need to travel Project manager Requirement for CIO/CTO/director of IT/etc. Requires someone who has good crossover skills (technical & leadershipskills) Help desk staff Pay rates often far less than the person desired/being hired will accept Specialized programmer There is a high demand for a relatively small number of specializeddevelopers available 20. News BytesTechRepublic Opinion Piece Cont. Pre-sales engineer Requires a diverse range of talents beyond the technical and often requires alot of travel Technical writer Hard to find people who can write coherently, in a language that the end usercan grasp, and who understand the technical side of things Product evangelist The right person needs to have an absolute passion for the work and for thecompany and its specific products, as well as the technical knowledge andsoft skills to handle the job IT author The number of IT authors who can consistently produce high quality contentyear in and year out is extremely limited Maintenance/legacy programmer Few programmers are willing to take these jobs because they are the kiss ofdeath for a career. 21. ConclusionEnrolmentsThe IT industry should be very concerned that there were over 3000 fewertertiary sector ICT combined diploma and degree enrolments in 2010 thanin 2003. This reflects a global trend. Its great, therefore, to see the strong level of support by the IT industry forthe NZ Computer Societys[PDF] in-school programme, designed to evangelize a bright future in IT.Job AdvertsThis months 14% increase in ICT job adverts on Seek ICT NZ is in contrast tolast months 14% decline.Perhaps the April downturn was an aberration that can be attributed to theEaster and ANZAC holidays!Mobile Apps Refer May 9th 2012
