A higher percentage of IB pupils achieve a first class honours award

than those holding A-level qualifications*, and are more likely to be

enrolled at one of the UK’s top Higher Education Institutions than

entrants holding other qualifications. 19% of IB entrants with a

full-time first degree achieve a first class honours award compared

with 14.5% of first degree qualifiers who held A-level or equivalent

qualifications. UK IB pupils consistently score higher than the world

average (32.79 versus 29.6 points).

IB is suitable for all levels of ability. Pupils study six subjects over two years, one from each of six subject groups.

Three subjects are studied at Higher Level and three at

Standard Level. Additionally, all pupils take the three

core elements of the Diploma: Theory of Knowledge,

the Extended Essay and Creativity, Action and Service.

Subjects are assessed through internal assessment such

as coursework and oral exams, and through exams at

the end of the two-year course.

Grades awarded for each course range from

1 to 7. Three additional points are allocated for

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay,

making 45 the maximum score achievable.

The Diploma is awarded to pupils who achieve

at least 24 points, subject to achieving minimum

standards within each aspect of the programme.

JanHaving studied for a BSc (Hons) in Management at Warwick University, Veronika entered the RBS graduate programme and currently works in their foreign exchange team. “Studying IB at King Edward’s meant I could leave my study options open until Upper Sixth. Dinazad went on to study for a BSc in Business Administration at the University of Mannheim, then a Masters programme in International Management and Marketing before joining BAT International. “Throughout my IB studies I worked in a number of small groups, similar to an employment setting where you have close interaction with team members, so I learnt to appreciate a range of techniques and methodologies”.

DinazadAfter King Edward’s, Chinoso is going to King’s College London to study Biomedical Science, followed by Medicine; she hopes to join Médecins Sans Frontières. “At King Edward’s I really grew to love the community atmosphere - the friends, the teachers and staff. It became my home. I liked the balanced approach that the IB offers and the fact you can keep your study options open”.
