RemoteApp/Remote Desktop Help RemoteApp (“Remote Application Access”, for Windows users) and Remote Desktop (for Mac users) are web-based programs that allow Cuesta College employees remote access to certain systems (e.g. ARGOS, Banner INB, SARS Anywhere, network drives, etc.).

NOTE:

• Employees should access SharePoint via https://portal.office.com. • Windows 7 users may need to first update their system (instructions, page 3). • Macintosh users should use Microsoft Remote Desktop (installation instructions, page 6).

How to use RemoteApp or MS Remote Desktop

Windows – RemoteApp Macintosh – Remote Desktop 1. Go to https://apps.cuesta.edu. 2. Log in with your Cuesta username and

password. A RemoteApp dialog will appear.

3. Click the Connect button. A security screen will appear, prompting for “user name” and password.

4. Enter your e-mail address in the “user name” field.

5. Enter your password in the “password” field and then click OK.

1. Click Launchpad. 2. Click the Microsoft Remote

Desktop icon. The Remote Desktop app window will open.

NOTE: Applications displayed will vary by user, based on individual permissions.

3. Double-click an application icon to launch

Windows – RemoteApp Macintosh – Remote Desktop A list of applications will display.

NOTE: Applications displayed will vary by user, based on individual permissions.

6. Click an application icon to launch that program.

Important: “Windows Explorer” and “OneDrive” do not allow you to open files.

• Windows Explorer is only used to copy files between network drives and your local computer.

• OneDrive is used to upload files from your local computer and network drives to OneDrive.

Windows 7 Updates If you are running Windows 7 on your home computer, you must install four (4) 32-bit or 64-bit updates before you can use RemoteApp. To determine which version of Windows you are running (32 or 64 bit):

1. Click the Start button. 2. Type: system in the start search box. 3. Click System Information under “Programs”.

The System Information window will open. 4. Verify “System Summary” is selected in the left pane. 5. Check the “System Type” field.

Windows 7, 64-bit will have “x64-based PC” as the System Type.

Follow the appropriate instructions:

Windows 7 (64-bit) Windows 7 (32-bit) 2. Click the Download button.

The “Choose the download you want” webpage will open.

3. Select the first check box. All the check boxes will be selected.

4. Click Next. Browsers Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari, will prompt you to save the files.

5. Save the files (e.g. with Internet Explorer, click Save.) Note: You might have to click “Save” 4 times (once for each file downloaded).

The files will be downloaded, usually to a “Downloads” folder. 6. Locate and open the Downloads folder (e.g. with Internet Explorer, click the Open folder

button.)

Windows 7 (64-bit) Windows 7 (32-bit) The Downloads window will open.

7. Double-click on the first file, “KB2574819” and follow the on-screen instructions. 8. Redisplay the Downloads window and repeat step 7 for each of the remaining files,

“KB2830477”, “KB2857650”, “KB2913751”.

IMPORTANT! These files must be installed in the following order: i. KB2574819 ii. KB2830477 iii. KB2857650 iv. KB2913751

9. Restart your computer to finalize the update.

You’re now ready to run RemoteApp (instructions above).

Microsoft Remote Desktop Installation (Mac-users) If your home computer is a Macintosh, we recommend you download the latest version of the Microsoft Remote Desktop client from the App Store, following the steps below:

1. Go to https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-remote-desktop/id715768417?mt=12#.

ITunes will open, displaying Microsoft Remote Desktop information screen.

2. Click the View in Mac App Store icon.

The Microsoft Remote Desktop download screen will display.

3. Click the Get icon. The Get icon will change to the “Install App” icon.

4. Click the Install App icon. RemoteApp will be installed, but still need to be configured.

5. Click Launchpad.

6. Click the Microsoft Remote Desktop icon.

The empty application window will open.

7. Click the Remote Resources button.

A Remote Resources dialog will open. 8. Enter the following:

• URL: apps.cuesta.edu • User name: your_Cuesta_username • Password: your Cuesta password

9. Click the Refresh button.

“Successfully loaded Remote Resources” will appear on the dialog.

10. Close the Remote Resources dialog.
