DEVELOP AN EFFECTIVE OPENING

An effective opening is important because you want to make sure you are confident, and well prepared. You should have a brief outline of your main points. Also, towards the end of your presentation you should say your strongest points so that the audience can be alert.

USE TEXT EFFECTIVELY

Choosing the right font for your presentation is very important. It can add power to the message you are trying to convey.

Fonts express moods and emotions, as well as serious and business like, to relaxed and open.

For a whole presentation you can use up to 3 fonts with 4 different sizes.

For a single page you can use up to 2 fonts and 2 to 3 sizes.

Never use anything smaller than size 18.

COLORS FOR BACKGROUNDS AND TEXT

Color is probably the most critical consideration in designing a presentation.

Darker colors usually make better backgrounds, because light colors can be glaring.

Deep shades of blue and green are good for backgrounds because they are cool and calming.

Warm colors like yellow, orange and red are good for text.

ONLY ADD IMAGES THAT REINFORCE OR EXTEND YOUR MESSAGE.

There is nothing more distracting than an inappropriate image, or one that doesn’t go with your presentation. Whenever possible use pictures other than from clip art, such as www.images/google.com

KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE

You should learn everything about your listeners, and find out who your typical listener is.

Whether it’s a friend, someone who knows nothing about your topic, or an expert it’s important to connect with all of them.

Tell them what they want to hear and your audience will have their needs met.

With all of these steps, you should be able to make an effective power point and share your knowledge with others.
