ACTFL Support for STARTALK HLLsEvaluate the language profile of your HLLs:

• Administer one or two parts of the ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) at least four weeks prior to the start of your summer student program.

• Recommendation to administer:• Presentational Writing segment and• Either the Interpretive (listening and reading)

or Interpersonal (listening-speaking conversation)

• If the administration of AAPPL is taking place near or on the first day of instruction, you will want to use the Interpretive (listening and reading) assessment – since only these results are computer-scored and therefore available right away (to inform instruction).

ACTFL Support for STARTALK HLLs

Reflect on the resulting profiles of your HLLs:

• Identify specific ways to meet the needs of each learner

• ACTFL provides coaching via webinar/videoconference sessions:• Four coaching sessions (interactive with participating programs)

• Online webinars ready to access (on your own schedule)

• Learn how to evaluate the AAPPL results

• Identify specific strategies to develop learners' language skills

• Share in the network of STARTALK programs supporting HLLs

ACTFL Support for STARTALK HLLs

Evaluate the improvement of your HLLs:

• Administer the AAPPL at the end of your program (or up to six weeks after the end of the program).

• Recommendation to administer:• Presentational Writing segment and• Interpretive (listening and reading) and• Interpersonal (listening-speaking conversation)

• Identify improvements in the language proficiency of your HLLs
