Hertel where she and husband, Hank, and children Melbourne, Roger and Sandra made their home when Hank died in 1988. The couple were proud parents. The service at Portal recently honored their son, Roger who lost his life serving our country. I, as a young girl, respected that fam- ily and was always getting some material and going over to Helene to sew another dress, jumper or whatever. Betty and Diane VanBerkom took an Allegiant flight from Mi- not to Mesa, AZ. They were guests of Marilyn (Odden) Bieter. Marsha Riley of Durham, NC joined them. Thursday evening they had supper with Larry and Bev Van- Berkom, daughter Michele and husband, Kitty, Bev’s sister and Oakley and Alice. The following day they met Rick Andersons and Randy Grimsruds for lunch. Visiting relatives and friends and the weather were a treat for all. Bonnie Jorgenson and her son, Todd drove to Bismarck on Satur- day to attend the funeral service for Gordon McEvers. In the after- noon they spent a couple hours with Bonnie’s grandson, David Wisthoff and his family. Lignite Some memories of the Lignite area in July 2012, the classes of 1950-53 met in Leavensworth, WA for a reunion. Those in attendance were Kay Hovland, Mary Bywater, Jean Breindenfeld, Della Arnaiz, Arlys Haroldson, Shirley Wein- mann, Alf and Joan Berg, Shirley McEvers, Judy Dahl, Faye Hov- land, Carol Christianson, Cheryl Greenfield, Earl Weinmann, Jack Bywater, Tilman Hovland, Roland Dahl, Royal Hovland, Gaylord Greenfield. An enjoyable Saturday was spent with friend, Gen Granrud and daughter, Brenda when we traveled to the Garrison’s annual Christmas festival. It was nice to spend time with classmate as Gen and I worked at the V&V Grill in Portal run by her parents and then graduated with classmates: Agnes Ceglowski, Marjorie Crispen, Ar- thur Charlton, Eldon Chrest, Ileen Hawbaker, Genevieve Nelson, Erma Lee Jeffrey, Marilyn Swett, James Nelson, Patrick Cummins and Robert Marshall. Then while relaxing from my day I talked with friend, Carol Post in Columbus and then had the pleas- ant surprise of a visit from son, Ron and Anita Erickson. Nice to hear from one time Portal lady, Janet Clingman who with husband, Wayne made the community stay alive. The communities express sympathy to the families of Claire Guderjohn. Bowbells Last Sunday, Doc Stevens and Harriet Heth enjoyed an afternoon of pinochle at the home of Melvin and Dorothy Christiansen, and also a delicious supper. Harriet Heth accompanied Janet Nelson to Crosby on Monday, where they met friend, Marie Sorenson for lunch. They did a bit of shopping as well. Tuesday pinochle winners were Vi, first; Harriet, second and Pat, third. Mary Stephanie and Arva Walters played Bingo Tuesday evening. The jackpot has still not been won! Nine members of Monson Finkenhagen Legion Auxiliary enjoyed a delicious meal at the 109 Tuesday evening. Those attend- Colleen Durward had a great weekend in Bismarck spending time with family including, Nell Peterson of Bowbells; Taylor Peterson, Brittney and Boden Colbenson of Minot; Joy and Chad Staton, Jordan and Riley of Hick- son; and Jamie Carrier of the Chi- cago area. Also joining the group were Darris and Lyann Olson. While in Bismarck, Darris and Lyann Olson met her brother, Daren and Michelle and family of Bismarck for a quick visit and also daughter, Lauren and Garrett Roth of Mandan. Monday Diana and Wayne Jacobson and Janette Peterson attended the Christmas program in Kenmare. On Sunday, the church was full at Bethlehem Lutheran to watch the children’s Sunday School pro- gram. Sunday after church Michelle Redmer went to Lignite and had lunch with Harriet Heth, Janet Nelson and Betty Johnson and dropped off scrapbooking stuff. The Crimson Cruisers Red Hat- ters went to Dave’s Place Tuesday morning. Those attending were Terry Alexander of Tolley, Darcy Ankenbauer, Donna Christianson, Shirley Christianson, Pearl Kling, Diane Skalicky, all of Kenmare; Dee Haley, Ardelle McIntyre, Bon- nie Nielsen, Mary Winzenburg, all of Bowbells; and Mary Ann Mitchell of Donnybrook. Dee Haley attended the funeral of Diana VanBerkom Saturday morning in Kenmare. Present: President Rollie Dalin, Vice President Kurt Koppelsloen, Directors Joe Ruby, Jordon Hawbaker and Steve Walters, Superintendent/Principal Rick Lindblad and Business Manager/Athletic Director Julie Kreklau. Guests Holly Chrest, Amy Nelson, and Dan Nelson.

1. Preliminaries: President Dalin called the regular meeting to order with the pledge of allegiance at 7:00 pm.

2. Motion by Director Hawbaker to approve the agenda with the additions as presented. Second by Ruby. Motion carried.

3. Motion by Director Ruby to approve the minutes of the 9-10-2018 meeting. Second by Koppelsloen. Motion carried.

4. Motion by Director Walters to approve the financial report. Second by Koppelsloen. Motion carried.

5. Motion by Director Hawbaker to approve bills as presented. Second by Ruby. Motion carried.

6. Athletic Director Report: Update on basketball and baseball. Congratulations to the drama team on their 1st place finish at Regionals and good luck at State. Congratulations to Tevin Dix on being selected to the all-conference football team.

7. Superintendent Report: Thank you to the Lignite Fire Department for giving the poster winners rides to school in the fire truck. Director Koppelsloen made a motion to approve out of state travel for a staff member. Second by Walters. Motion carried. State funding update, discussion on student ACT scores. Walk throughs and evaluation update, congratulations to all October Students and Staff members of the month.

8. Outreach: Mr. Wilson has been hired as the head baseball coach for 2019, Bill Lowry is the assistant.

Ardelle McIntyre, Tim and Kari Rasmusson went Thursday to Hannah Sandberg’s preschool Christmas program in Kenmare.

The Town and Country Home-makers had their Christmas party at Jack and Gen Aufforths’ Satur-day evening. Those attending were Hazel and Mike Herman, Marilyn and John Scott, Robert and Faye Sundin, Joanne and Darcy Chris-tiansen, Dave and Irene Hiscox, Larry and Sue Matte.

Jack and Gen Aufforth and Isa-bella went to see Grandma Marge at the hospital Christmas party Friday afternoon.

After the Sunday School pro-gram, Dee Haley and grandsons, Caden, Kellan and Corbin went to Minot to help celebrate cousin, Aleia Fluhrer’s sixth birthday with family and friends at Julie and Kevin Nelsons’. Dee and the boys also did some shopping.

Ardelle McIntyre went to grand-daughter, Casey Sandberg’s Mon-day morning to make Christmas goodies.

Bonnie Nielsen was in Bismarck Thursday night for her grand-daughter’s Christmas program. While there Bonnie and Eric, Becky, Ethan and Jocelyn Nielsen celebrated an early Christmas.

Saturday, Diana Jacobson and Janette Peterson made a quick day trip to Sykeston to Janel and Jerome Hoheisels’ to see all of Janette’s grand and great grand-children who were there. Janel’s family celebrated Christmas early. She had a house and garage full

Kalmbachs Celebrate Marriage

Sam and Kelsey (Pragnell) Kalm-bach celebrated their marriage on September 22, 2018, in Weyburn, SK.

Sam is the son of Lance and Jane Kalmbach of Kenmare, grandson of Melvin and Dorothy Chris-tiansen of Flaxton, and Marvin and the late Marlyn (Moericke) Kalmbach.

Kelsey is the daughter of Mike and Elaine Pragnell of Weyburn.

They reside in Weyburn.

Arva Walters and Mary Stepheny were Minot callers Wednesday where they met Jackie Weinmann for eating, shopping and visiting.

Thursday pinochle winners were Mary, first; Harriet, second and Vi, third.

Several Senior Citizens enjoyed a delicious lunch at the school cafeteria Thursday. It was fun intermingling with the children. Appreciation is extended for invit-ing us.

Sunday after church Michelle Redmer went to Lignite and had lunch with Harriet Heth, Janet Nelson and Betty Johnson and dropped off scrapbooking stuff.

The Crimson Cruisers Red Hat-ters went to Dave’s Place Tuesday morning. Those attending were Terry Alexander of Tolley, Darcy Ankenbauer, Donna Christianson, Shirley Christianson, Pearl Kling, Diane Skalicky, all of Kenmare; Dee Haley, Ardelle McIntyre, Bon-nie Nielsen, Mary Winzenburg, all of Bowbells; and Mary Ann Mitchell of Donnybrook.

Dee Haley attended the funeral of Diana VanBerkom Saturday morning in Kenmare.

Celebrating Dan Linster and Jade Parkinsons’ birthdays Thurs-day evening at the Linster home were Dan and Bernnie Linster, Jade and Kristie Parkinson and Darris and Lyann Olson.
